  1. ... and if we create the right products and services, trade will happen. Whether we are in the EU or not. Technically it will. We will be able to vote in our own elections for the parties that address these issues. It's how democracy works If we find it difficult to recruit, as we would be in control of immigration, we could allow more immigration. The ability to tailor our immigration policy to the needs of the UK, whether that be low skilled manual labour from Eastern Europe or highly educated people from Africa, would be better served outside of the EU.
  2. ... and that is the future model. Just beacuse his kit is made elsewhere, it doesn't mean that the company does not generate wealth for UK PLC We're never going to compete with India and China due to employment regulation and higher wages. Create the IP and import the wealth.
  3. Yet one man like James Dyson completely revolutionises the household vacuum market globally.... wiping out the US Giant Hoover and spanking electrical giants like Electrolux. Creating thousands of jobs and generating wealth for the UK. As I said, if you create great products, people will buy them. It really is that simple. The future success of our economy should be based on our ability to create, not whether or not we should be in the EU. When you look at Silicon Valley and the raft of firms that appeared over the last 30 years .... Microsoft, Oracle, Symantec, Apple, Adobe, Intel etc etc .... how much are these worth to the US economy?? Billions. I wish people would expand their minds as to the possibilities out there...
  4. I don't disagree, but China still trades with the EU. Much of the remainers economic argument seems to centre around trade deals and the fear of not getting a deal. The simple fact is that trade will continue out or in. We may win in some areas and lose on others, but if in the long term we continue to be an inventive and entrepreneurial nation, we will be jsut fine. It's all about making products that people want to buy.
  5. I must have missed the EU-China and EU-USA Free Trade Agreements... Meanwhile, little old Switzerland has a FTA with China. For the project fear peeps, this is an interesting article: http://blogs.lse.ac.uk/europpblog/2015/05/05/what-the-eu-could-learn-from-switzerlands-free-trade-agreement-with-china/ Even New Zealand has a FTA with China. There is no doubt, that the EU economy carries more clout due to the sheer size of the EU economy, but when you have to get 28 members to agree to it, size counts for nothing.
  6. Trade deals seem to be the central point in terms of the economic impact of leaving the EU (remembering that you do not need a trade deal to trade). On the surface we run a trade deficit with the EU, so it would be in the EU's interests to have a deal. At the same time, we run a trade surplus with the rest of the world (non-EU countries). Now there are many that state that we run a trade surplus with non-EU countries because of the EU trade deals that are in place. So I thought I would check out the trade agreements set up by the EU with the rest of the world... Kosovo Bosnia and Herzegovina Serbia Ukraine Montenegro Albania Macedonia Faroe Islands Norway Iceland Switzerland Algeria Egypt Lebanon Jordan Israel Morocco Tunisia Palestinian Authority Syria EU-Ecuador Colombia and Peru Central America EU-Iraq Papua New Guinea and Fiji Korea Cameroon Madagascar, Mauritius, the Seychelles, and Zimbabwe Chile Mexico South Africa Out of the top 10 non-EU economies, we have one trade deal.... with.... wait for it..... 10th placed Indonesia. I'm sorry and no disrespect to the countries listed, but that list is a bit s-h-i-t. On the brightside, thanks to the EU, we have free trade deals with Syria, Iraq and Palestine... I guess thats good for the arms dealers

  8. To be fair, it echoes some of my family get togethers. Take my dad and my uncle david. Both born and brought up on a tough manchester council estate (i took my dad yesterday for his birthday... he says its the worst birthday present he has ever had... he's a city fan BTW). Both peas from the same pod. One of them worked his arse off to the top of the IT industry (he became a senior vice president for IBM at the end of the1980's) and the other one got involved in the extreme left and is still mates with Scargill. One of them was and still is an inspiration to me, who climbed the ladder against adversity. The other one is a bitter and sad individual. Always blames everyone else for everything and is insanely jealous. A militant leftie to the core. At the end of the day, they both had the same. The difference between them came down to attitude. That's why I am proud of my Dad and pity the millitant socialist. I guess it is one of the main reasons i am turned off the politics of the left. So there you go, if you want to know why I enjoy leftie-baiting, blame my uncle david. It's not difficult to get him going. I've even named a roundabout after him. My dad now lives in west wittering, which is the more upmarket wittering. I don't know if youve ever been to the beach there, but when youre heading home, you get to the mini roundabout at Birdham. Those from west wittering are forced to stop and give way to those from east wittering (the lesser of the witterings). There you have it... Uncle Davids roundabout. Hey, maybe you should come round for lunch sometime?

  13. Labour MEP on the take for the tune of £500,000 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-36167299 At least the leftie hypocrite was jailed for it
  14. Indeed. I am sure Labour don't want to be known as the party of hate, just as much as the Labour party don't want to be known as the party of corruption... An MEP who dishonestly claimed almost £500,000 in expenses has been jailed for four years http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-36167299 However, as he is an MEP, I am not sure whether I should post this here or the EU referendum thread.
  15. For me, Ken doesn't get off this easy. Only a few weeks ago he was insulting people with mental health issues. He is the worst kind of hypocritical leftie...

  17. It was a tory scumbag that wrote the ECHR. Careful or the tory boy label might stick LOL In other news, the lib dems and the greens think we should have a UK Bill of Rights...
  18. i'm glad they gave us freedom from slavery, because before we joined, it was a real problem. As for torture, we could finally ban the rack and the iron maiden As for the right to a fair trial, we had and still have a justice system that is the envy of the world. Anyway, what about the most fundemental of rights? One that people have fought and died for? You know, the right to elected and accountable representatives???? We call it democracy?? Ah, that wouldn't suit those on the EU gravy train.

  20. You make a good point (which nicely brings things back on topic) because household income has, in part, remained depressed due to the immigration of eastern europeans, since around 2004. If you import hundreds of thousands of people who are prepared to work for less, then wages stagnate. I would suggest that EU membership is one of the main factors in the stagnation of household income. Now I'm not against the eastern europeans. I employ quite a few and their work ethic puts many english to shame.
  21. it's an interesting read... https://fullfact.org/economy/has-labour-ever-left-office-lower-unemployment-it-started/ im not overly fussed on dave or george, but employment is at record levels. Labour may well have the best of intentions when it comes to employment, but its on area where they have failed. The tories havent always got it right by any stretch of the imagination, but they have managed to leave office with lower unemployment on a number of occasions. Back to the EU, dave failed in his negotiations pre referendum. if it is a close call and there is a chance of re-negotiating our eu membership, i dont think dave is up to it.
  22. To be fair. If by working man, you mean the men who are actually working, the tories have a better track record. If you mean working men, not actually working, I see your point. Look at employment figures at the end of every labour government compared to the tories. Labour destroys jobs Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
  23. It could even come down to the weather. If it's ****ing down with rain, the outs who are more motivated will vote. Would be funny if the British weather determined the outcome
  24. Not really a back lash against islamic terrorism. More a struggle for freedom against the oppressive Assad regime in Raqqa, which was replaced by FSA and then subsequently ISIS, where the struggle continued. Brilliant video/story though showing their bravery and struggle for freedom.
