I guess it depends on how confident you are that all 28 nations would agree to them joining (which is a problem in itself)... but if Spain does support Scotland, it will open a can of worms on their own doorstep.
-
If Crankie thinks she can leave the UK and join the EU, she is deluded. All member states would have to agree to Scotland joining the EU. Spain will block it as they won't want to be seen to supporting Scotland's independence, whilst denying the Basque region theirs.

The EU having a long history of kicking the can down the road. Just look at Greece... they can't pay their debts... the EU keep bailing then out with debt to pay the interest on the debt that was accrued to pay the interest on their debts... Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

Yes they do, but they are transparent about it where they come from. The LSE isn't anywhere near as transparent. So much so, that your mate opened his report with "I'm not biased. I am not pro-EU. I never said the Euro was a good idea! Honest, guv." Heads rolled after that scandal (and I'm not talking about be-headings in Libya) , which seriously discredited the LSE. If there was no case to answer, why was there a raft of resignations??? This actually made me LOL. I can only assume that you work in HE, given your staunch defence of the profession and by the amount of time you spend on here Interesting and possibly relevant to some of the debate on here, we're told that the young who voted to remain, are better educated. Since many youngsters have 3rd rate degrees from 3rd rate institutions, maybe the so called "research" into the intelligence of remain voters needs to be looked at again?

I think you're confusing an organisation that is transparent with its funding (receiving money from member states and corporations as opposed to the EU itself), winning Think Tank of the year for two years running with an organisation that takes blood money in return for giving PHDs to dictators' offspring...

We got relegated by Man Utd on my birthday. I guess some of us are born lucky ;-)

There's nothing wrong with the EU collapsing and then reverting back to the EEC/common market, which is what we all signed up to.

So this article confirms that the financial cost of membership is about £60bn more than the £350m a week????

Indeed the research, on the surface, does show this. However, I doubt that the opinion of a 2015 Solent University media studies graduate carries more gravitas than a Mechanical Engineering HND student from a former polytechnic, say from 30-40 years ago. The research fails to take into account the fact that amongst the young (who were largely more in favour of remain), every man and his dog (and cat and rabbit) goes to "university". I use the word 'university' in the loosest sense, as many modern "universities" would just about be classified as colleges a couple of decades ago. So more youngsters are "better" educated when compared to the older generations, where only the top 10% went to university. More youngsters voted remain and on paper they are "more educated". But the VALUE of such education isn't directly comparable. On this basis, you have to question the research and what it insinuates...

Have to disagree there, me old pedigree chum. Increasing employment regulation from the EU has already tied the hands of businesses in the EU and there is no reason for this not to continue. Being liberated from the EU, means that we can maintain and create an even more flexible economy. There is also a significant weight applied to the trade deals that we will be able to do going forward. Both these points only come into play by leaving the EU, therefore the bigger upsides in the report are attributable to Brexit.

Can you remind me how much our trade with EU countries has increased since joining the single market? It's important, because it may give some indication as to how much we might trade we might "lose" if we leave. Thanks Baldrick

Fox News?????? And you call me out on Al Jazeera??? Come on chum, you can do better than that. Just because I lower the debate, doesn't mean that you should take it to unforseen depths

Indeed. According to these bods, our share of exports to the EU haven't increased since joining the Common Market, so why would they fall away to zero afterwards... http://www.eu-facts.org.uk/sceptics-handbook/an-overview-of-uk-export-growth-since-1960/

I for one have no problem with it, as you say, it sets a dangerous precedent if it went the other way. If parliament doesn't respect the will of the people, however, then that's a different matter. I'll be opening cans of pedigree chum, as the dogs of war need to be fed before they are unleashed.

In Arnhem, we walked across the John Frost Bridge. Brought back memories of a Bridge Too Far... (the film, not the poster on here) In Milan, I took a photo of the cathedral. In Prague, we walked across the Charles bridge. We also stumbled across the church where the Czech resistance fighters were holed up, after the failed assassination attempt on Reinhard Heydrich (one of the architects of the final solution). Anyone who has seen Operation Daybreak (or Anthropoid, more recently) would know it. Here is a picture of the access to the crypt where they were hiding. Hoses were put through this window to literally flush them out. Thankfully the **** Heydrich died a few weeks later, so the the mission was accomplished, even though the czechs (who were betrayed) didn't know it.

And let's not forget that the principle of free movement has nothing to do with standing up against racism and eradicating prejudice. It is there to pave the way for a European superstate. The USA wouldn't work if the movement of people was restricted between states. There is no free movement of africans, asians or anyone else who wants to come to the EU. So it's not some god given human right that is being established, because if it was, the EU wouldn't be controlling the immigration of non whites from overseas.

There is no doubt that immigration was a significant factor in the vote to leave. But before remainers get on their righteous high horses, is it not worth considering that the EU is in itself, institutionally racist?? The EU's very existence is based upon protecting white French farmers against African farmers. By putting up barriers, the EU is continuing to ensure that Africa stays impoverished and is indirectly responsible for people jumping in rubber dinghys to attempt to get to the promised land. If we perhaps imported more food from Africa, the peoples of Europe would benefit from lower food bills and at the same time we would be helping an impoverished continent. But no, **** them, pull the drawbridge up, as long as we're alright. Nick Griffin would be proud of such a policy... If we are making free trade deals around the world, I would like to see more done with Africa and the former commonwealth countries...
