  1. In that case, don't rule out the the Yaris. In terms of resale, 19C says don't go for the Yaris because you'll be more likely to sell a Fiesta to someone under 20's. Well considering there are far more drivers over the age of 60 (and the gap is increasing with an aging population), then surely you should go for the car that appeals to the widest audience? Good, sound advice (probably the best advice from 19C on over 1,720 posts on this forum) and it's the way I would go. Clearly someone with 1,720 posts on an internet forum has loads of friends. Many of them can be found on the main board.........not. Anyway, back on topic, I bought a BMW 520 with 130k miles on the clock, ran it for 2 years and put on 50k+ miles, not spending a penny on servicing or maintenance. Total difference between purchase and sale price was £700. Cost of ownership (excluding Fuel, insurance, tax) was 1.2p per mile. There are not many cars that will give you that return. The downside is that you will have to ditch all your jeolous and envious friends (who wants friends like these anyway) and you will have to put up with green eyed monsters glaring at you in traffic.
  2. I thought your anti-hey-look-at-me-BMW-/-Audi-driver stance meant that you were against people who buy cars for the purposes of image. Now you are recommending that someone doesn't buy a car because of a poor image. Not buying a car because image is poor is as bad as buying a BMW/Audi for image purposes. As I always say, look at the car, not the person driving it.
  3. Indeed, what are the chances of that happening? I guess when your numbers up there is little you can do about it. I saw John Surtees at this year's Goodwood FOS - he rode a bike up at the age of 75 - still plenty of life in the old man. RIP Henry
  4. For us Lowe was a successful Chairman to some extent but assessed against his peers in that same period he was just a good chairman. Look where Pompey were before Manderic got hold of them. Lowe couldn't match that because he was just a bean counter in a world of football chairman with serious wealth and demonstrable business success. Anyway Lowe's achievements cannot be argued with (the stadium built with a loan and we were one of 10+ clubs that got new stadia in that timeframe) but what can be debated is that was he as great as the other chairman of his era? No IMO. Therefore, should he be held in such high regard as some kind of 'patron chairman' for his service? No IMO. Should we hold him in the same high esteem as Ibramovich, Sugar/Levy, Manderic, Duffen, Al Fayed, Madjedski or Coates? No IMO. Post his chairmanship has he conducted himself as an elder statesman? A diplomat and arbitrator working for the good of the club? No IMO. I believe Lowe's biggest fan is you, followed by himself and IMO his record in destroying shareholder value does not warrant the praise some afford him. All IMHO of Course x
  5. I was going to say that you have to stay off the ... and instead you should be using :smt032:smt032 when refering to our mutual friend. However, as he thinks we are one in the same, I would suggest the :smt032:rolleyes::smt032:rolleyes: approach as it covers all angles
  6. Democracy in action, like it.
  7. Yep, Champix is the new Zyban.
  8. OK, it's over the limit, so is it a case of going for a second player or will all funds over and above the cost of one player go to charity??? Or would the sponsorship people throw in more tickets to the dinner for every £x given over and above the sponsorship amount? This may entice more people to put money in the pot.
  9. Well I've got a good memory and I am finding it hard to keep up with it all. I have to thank the mods for the transformer smilie...... :smt032 The question is, was the smilie developed due to the recent film release or is it more for those posters who transform from one into another? Perhaps a new sequel could be "Transformers, posters in Disguise". It features a bloke who rides around on a shopping bike (perhaps we can get James May to play the lead role). Then when overcome by incessant jealousy and envy, he transforms into this rather nasty poster on the internet. But, as fellow posters on the forum cotton on to his real identity, he morphs into another poster. However, his trademark bile, bull**** and trolling are a dead giveaway and it is not that difficult for the good guys to track him down. The film only ends when all of his personas are banned altogether.
  10. The new transformers smilie is very topical and relevant to this thread. :smt032 Now, is that NC transforming into Speculator or is it the other way round? Mods, can we have a smilie on a shopping bike as I may have some use for it?????
  11. That's what I thought. Where is Speculator these days anyway? Has he gone away on his folding shopping bike?
  12. Hey NC, do you think Speculator will also like my avatar???? It's just that you've been rumbled (again) http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=14984
  13. I am sure Speculator will be all ears!!!!
  14. Very good . I am surprised it took someone that long.
  15. TBF, never had to ask before
  16. ...or a case for Mystery Inc, featuring Scooby (or was that another of the multi personalities)
  17. Do I win a prize?????? :D
  18. DSM, thanks for that, however I didn't want to know the technical reason (as I think that is obvious). I was looking at how the poster uses that "format", whereby "noble" is being used in a sarcastic / derrogatory fashion, when most people use it as a compliment. The fact it is being used in this way, by these 3 "different" posters in short succession, suggests that these "different" posters are in fact the same, especially when other factors are considered (posting times, the same intended targets, the same likes, the same dislikes, posting on the same type of threads, similar syntax).
  19. I notice that you have been on the receiving end too, which seems strange - a new poster manages to make the same enemies within 24 posts. There is also the over use of the word "noble" (which is not lost on me, don't ask why) which is more than coincidental as it is being used in a patronising way. Posted on sunday Posted on monday Posted on Tuesday Why does noble always have to be followed by "but"????
  20. The poster speculator is clearly .......... GM's new attack dog, formerly known as Nineteen Canteen, Flashman, Sundance Beast. NC aluded to me getting on well with John Smith in a recent spat (he obviously has a problem with him). Well after 24 posts and a couple of days of posting regularly (predominently on GM's threads), his first 'victim' is John Smith. Coupled with the fact that he agrees with GM on his threads (which conveniently bumps them BTW) and writes in a simlar style to his previous incarnations, and they are both quite anti-strachan, it is pretty oobvious. I am not the only one who thinks this BTW
  21. I had a scare with the big c and so it was a no brainer for them. If you want Champix, you really have to put a good argument across. Say that you have tried 3 or 4 times before. You are worried about your health and you need all the help you can get. They may insist you go to smoking clinics, but I didn't have to. Honestly, I can't believe how good it is. I smoked 30 a day for nearly 20 years and just stopped. The first thing I did when I woke up, was have a cig and the last thing I did at night, was have a cig. They completely ruled me. Coming back from holiday, the first thing I would do is drag my wife and kids half way across an airport just so I could have a ciggie. It was a completely selfish habbit that ruled my life. Apparently you have to go the three months before you are clear, but the last 7 weeks has been a breeze. I feel completely liberated.
  22. I gave up over 7 weeks ago after a bit of a health scare. Smoked 30 a day for the last 15-20 years. I am on Champix, which has the highest success rate of all quitting aids. You continue to smoke for two weeks, whilst taking the drug. You then stop and I haven't wanted one at all. You have to keep taking the Champix for 3 months after you quit. They are very expensive and your GP won't prescribe them without a very strong argument. I have to say, I have never felt so good. So much so, I don't see what I gained from smoking. OK, when your young it's rebelious, cool, hip, trendy. As you get older, well it's just stupid.
