  1. 'right' by my own moral compass
  2. You made a point about whether capital punishment is wrong, period......which according to your line of argument, is not if it is law in a given country. Obviously, the death penalty is the sentence for drug smuggling in China and that is why nothing could have been done to stop it. But just because it is 'law' in any given country, doesn't make it 'right' (even though we have to abide by their laws when in their country). For me, there has to be some alignment and sense of proportion between the punishment and the crime. I have no problem with the harshest of treatments for the harshest of crimes. Take Ian Huntley for example, he should be swinging from the gallows. However, in this case, the punishment was too harsh and on that basis I think it was wrong.
  3. I think you missed the obvious point of whether the sentence matches the crime. This is important, especially for those in favour of capital punishment as it is a case of where do you draw the line. Do people caught driving 35 in a 30 MPH limit get executed? I think in a very small number of cases, capital punishment could be justified. However, in this case, drug smuggling does not warrant execution. I would have thought a long spell in a Chinese prison would be more than enough of a deterrant.
  4. Depends what you cane him with - being caned with an axe or a machette might hurt a bit. Anyway, I meant capital punishment which is harsh for the crime. For those concerned with the people affected by drugs, I would be more than happy to see drugs barons lined up against a wall and shot. The problem is, it is much easier to go for the foot soldiers, whom despite executing, will be easily replaced.
  5. FWIW I think the punishment is harsh for the crime. Drug smuggling, although bad, should not constitute the death penalty. Many muels are exploited / tricked into it and so I think imprisonment is a more appropriate punishment. Had he been a mass murderer, rapist or drugs baron, then the death penalty could be more "justifiable". This thread will bring up all the arguments for and against the death penalty, but I think even those who are in favour with corporal punishment, would agree that in this circumstance, the penalty does not match the crime.
  6. Indeed. We won the xmas period 4-3 on aggregate
  7. Indeed, he gave us the best corporate catering (in fact, award winning catering) in the football industry.
  8. I think ground sharing is a good option for them, as long as it is with Havant & Waterlooville.
  9. Nearly 6 hours have elapsed and no sign of 19C. Is he alright? I am getting quite concerned.
  10. Don't bring me problems, bring me solutions
  11. Bring them to the boil, immediately drain them and place them in a pot which should be placed in the lower oven in your AGA. They then steam in their own juices retaining all the goodness and the flavour.
  12. Which must officially make me the most annoying **** in the office. Oh well, another day another dollar I use that all the time. Too many people say "not bad" (which sounds crap lets face it) whereas "good" is more positive and essentially means the same. I'll stop using good, if you stop using not bad. THen of course there are the 6 P's = Perfect Planning Prevents **** Poor Performance
  13. £175 billion??? That's just in the last 12 months. The UK debt currently stands at: £861 billion and rising fast You can watch it 'live' here: http://www.debtbombshell.com/ ...and the governments own forecasts reckon it will reach £1.1 Trillion (a trillion being 1000 billion or "billions" as out great leader likes to call them) The only sentence where you can mention Gordon Brown, Economic and Competence all together without sounding like an arse is this one.
  14. So there are others????
  15. Indeed, but if you consider the jobsworth attitude of many in the Public Sector, an act like this really stands out, so fair play to him.
  16. Is this what you were aluding to a few months back?
  17. Shouldn't that be "Plaice he got...." That makes you an ITK Tosser then
  18. Shhhh! Don't tell him
  19. Maybe, but St Jase is still a tosser
  20. They are not a patch on the adverts of the 80's and early 90's. Take the Carling adverts for example... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVSBtivbUs4 They would never be allowed in this age of wishy washy politcal correctness. They used to be clever AND humerous, like this: Or this All we get now is grand creative and special effects.
  21. No they don't
  22. When looking for a car, if you decide on the level or size of car you are looking at, there really isn't that much choice. With the demise of Saab, there is even less choice in the market. I have never had a Saab, but it seemed to be a decent alternative to the BMW offerings and had an edge to it. The association with the Saab Viggen (Sp) meant that Saab drivers had the satisfaction of thinking that somehow their cars' innovations were driven by fighter jet technology. I seem to remember the aircraft featuring in Saab TV adverts. I hope someone resurrects the brand as there is definately a place in the market for this marque.
  23. 10x union light bulb changers, going on strike, refusing to change the lightbulbs whilst other light bulb changers are getting royally screwed and everyone else in the room is left in the dark. :smt008
  24. I am pretty sure you have said you're going away for £2 soon. How can you expect the staff to be paid and treated properly if you are only prepared to pay £2? Unfettered capitalism is not good, but consumerism is even worse. Take Primark for example, anyone with a social conscience would not set foot in the place. Paying too little for your goods or services inevitably means someone somewhere else is going to be exploited. As for the me-me-me accusations that I have had thrown at me, I think that Unite and the 10,000 crew can equally be accused of a me me me attitude. Sod those who would be stranded, sod those that could lose their money, sod those who are trying to get home to see loved ones at xmas, sod those who have worked and saved hard to take little Johnny to Disney. It is a sad day, when 10,000 selfish people can collectively screw 1 million people.
