My mum and dad are on a cruise ship going currently between Columbia and Miami. I do hope there is no tsunami.

Just on ITN News.....pompey player firesale. They understand that talks are at an advanced stage for the sale and/or loaning of their top players to other prem clubs. Looks like the last throw of the dice.

Perhaps if Gordon had no policies, we wouldn't be in such a mess would we?

New Labour have a habit of announcing things they have already announced. New Labour have a habit of announcing things they have already announced. New Labour have a habit of announcing things they have already announced. New Labour have a habit of announcing things they have already announced. New Labour have a habit of announcing things they have already announced. New Labour have a habit of announcing things they have already announced. Catching, isn't it?

That is a fair point, so I'll revert back to my original point about access being restricted to educational websites for children and adult education / job seeking sites for the parents. I am all for helping people to get on, but I don't see why I should pay for their entertainment.

Which surely makes more sense to place them in Libraries and or Job Centres who will already have internet access and IT resources? This would either save money (we are in a recession you know) or enable more workstations to be available. I think it will also be much more convenient, especially if they are located in job centres - people will be going to the Job Centre regularly anyway to look for work, so they can pop onto the internet while they are there. There you go, Internet Access for all, saving money and providing convenience to the less well off. Vote JB for PM

Surely internet access could be forced through a government portal which allows access to education & training information and/or job centre online? Facebook, myspace, twitter, youtube and even Saintsweb could all be blocked along with anything classed as entertainment. If this was possible, then I would be all for it. Having said this, the scheme for 270,000 laptops would be £300m. I make that £1100 per laptop. That is ridiculous when you can get a decent Dell laptop for £400. If this isn't an election bribe, then I don't know what is. Hey Gordon, why don't you throw in a few 42" flatscreens, playstations and a few Wii's?

Just been down to my girls school and saw the head and deputy head, shovels in hand, trying to clear the pavements along with some volunteers and school govenors. Fair play I say and the school will now definately open tomorrow.

Students and the armed forces all in one thread....

I think the tories are wrong on this and are clearly jumping on the band wagon. What I would like to see is the state funding of education in areas where there are a shortage of skills, which if addressed, would add value to UK PLC. -
...but surely that's got to be better than watching tripe TV?

I don't believe you. If I placed a million pounds in cash at the end of your road, I am sure you would find a way.

As the lounge has a Snow Man competition, shouldn't the Muppet Show have one of its own?
-
Quite.... EDIT: Moved to Muppet Show Should this go on the Snowman 2010 thread?

I am at work, but not clearly working hard enough. All staff have made it in all week, despite the weather, so in recognition of their efforts, we laid on a lunchtime buffet for everyone yesterday.

You can't compare the roles of a private sector director with a Head Teacher, who works in a protected environment with guaranteed income streams and doesn't have to deal with the pressures of running a commercial organisation (especially in a recession). Your average HR Director is having to deal with reducing head counts and redundancies - maybe even trying to save his or her own job. How many teachers have been laid off recently? Finance Directors are having to deal with incredibly difficult financing issues and severely stretched cash flows. The HT just gets given a wad of dosh to spend. Come on BTF, don't trot out the Public Sector hard done by line again, as we all know it's not true: http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/public_sector/article6974029.ece

For someone who is worth £14m, I would be expecting them to drive something a bit better than a Testarossa.
