Any takers? No? OK mods, lock it.

Hello, there is no money in the pot(ato). We can't keep on borrowing, because it needs to be paid back. Perhaps we cut some of the quangos back, in order to chip away at the defecit. GB has made a hash of the public finances so something has to give. I would rather that the vulnerable and elderly are catered for. Someone needs to come up with something that's not half baked. Have I given you enough clues as to the type of public spending that has contibuted to the mash that we are in?

Why is he a King Edward? The potato council will keep their eyes peeled for him. At the end of the day, they need to as he who pays the Maris Piper, calls the tune.

I am not sure it is a basic human right, because if it is, why has no one taken the Police or Armed Forces to court under Human Rights legislation? It may be a legal right, but not a basic human right. According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the main points are: Everyone has a right to life, liberty and security of their person. Everyone has a right to an education Everyone has a right to get a job Everyone has a right to take part in cultural life -to choose a way of life. No person may be tortured, or treated in a cruel or unkind way. Everyone has a right to have ideas or opinions, to decide what is right and what is wrong, and to choose a religion. Everyone has a right to speak or write freely I would add having a fair trial / innocent until proven guilty; peaceful protest and a basic standard of living (food & shelter). I couldn't find anything relating to striking whilst you earn twice as much as your counterparts constituting a basic human right.

What they don't tell you is that due to the recession, flights are not full and therefore the reduction of crew from 15 to 14 will have little impact on the workloads of the remaining 14 on long haul flights.

I live not far from the A27 in Chichester, so does this connect me to the greatness of Romsey????? Not that it has anything to do with Romsey, but I went to the Earl of March in Lavant (just north of Chicester) on saturday which has recently been turned into a restaurant. I found out that it was here that William Blake penned the words to Jerusalem, which means that downlands north of Chichester are England's green and pleasant land.

At the end of the day, Brown has spunked all the money and borrowed heavily. Whoever is in power come may will have to make tough choices. We will have to decide whether or not we really do need a Potato Council.

I don't know about that. We've had a permanent place on the UN security council since WWII and been a major force within NATO. Obviously we are not a superpower anymore, but as a nation we do still have influence and a strong armed forces is important to maintain this (especially when considering some of DellDays points) This government has employed over 500,000 EXTRA people in the various quangos (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1214001/The-cost-quango-Britain-hits-170bn--seven-fold-rise-Labour-came-power.html) since 1997. This 'army' of pen-pushers outnumbers the entire armed forces by a factor of 3 and costs 7 times as much. Do we really need those 500,000 extra pen pushers that we didn't have 13 years ago? I mean, do we really need a Potato Council that costs £6.5m a year? (I suppose in an ideal leftie world, potatoes have rights too). I suppose we could do away with the armed forces and if we are ever invaded, we could lob spuds at the enemy. The dumb ****s have even created a British Potato Council website in Welsh FFS http://www.potato.org.uk/welsh-home.html In the interests of fairness, I think you lot are due a bit of pain.

No it doesn't. I am quite happy to pay more in coucil tax this year to help the vulnerable. Unfortunately despite my honourable intentions, it will be swallowed up to fund public sector pensions.... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/6996114/Council-tax-rise-needed-due-to-local-government-pensions-black-hole.html?utm_source=tmg&utm_medium=TD_ct&utm_campaign=pf1601 It's all about choices now there is no money left in the pot. Lining the pockets of public sector workers VS looking after the vulnerable and the old. You decide Or you could blow £6.5m a year on Potato Councils: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1214001/The-cost-quango-Britain-hits-170bn--seven-fold-rise-Labour-came-power.html

OK, I'll stop the bickering. My serious point is that the world is more unstable and if 'we' are to have influence, we need a strong military capability.
-
Well, if hypocricy floats your boat, that's up to you
-
They could only base their opinions on the "facts" presented by your hero Mr Blair. Anyway, it didn't need their votes as enough lefties were bloody thirsty enough to push it through
-
Look on the bright side, it would seriously hamper the ability of a future socialist government to launch an illegal war on another sovereign state.
-
I know that, but it doesn't mention that the website founder also happened to be 5th highest ****taker in the expenses scandal (of all London MP's), claiming a staggering £103,117 for a second home. It also didn't mention that he happens to be a typical hardline leftie turned champagne socialist. His website wants to attack Cameron, but he has more aspirations to be like Cameron than most other lefties would care to admit. Kind of ironic don't you think?
-
Are you suggesting they had sprinklers out last night? If so, it is now a case of Spray Up Pompey, Pompey Spray Up
-
First, agree Second, agree Third, agree
-
That website doesn't mention anything about the fact that the founder is Jon Cruddas (Labour MP for Dagenham) who was the 5th highest ****taker in the expenses scandal (of all London MP's), claiming a staggering £103,117 for a second home. Dagenham is on the tube line FFS. His house 'near' parliament is in Notting Hill and is only 9 MILES closer to Westminster. Ironically, his Notting Hill home is just round the corner from Dave's. Just google Jon Crudas+Scandal, but to save you the bother, here is an interesting article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-457904/Real-Labour-candidate-exploits-expenses-loophole-to-Notting-Hill.html That's the problem with real lefties who have become champagne socialists, where people like Jonny "two homes" Crudas have their snouts well and truly in the trough....bunch of ****ing hypocrites if you ask me. If anything, this so called leftie makes Dave seem like a bloody nice bloke.

Since when did Hague **** up the country? He's never been PM.

It Shouldn't Matter That It's So Close To Home
Johnny Bognor replied to Gemmel's topic in The Lounge
.....not without sending him on a 3 week Caribbean holiday first, in order to help him overcome the stress of this awful ordeal. -
Why bring Gordon Brown into this?
-
In fairness to most businesses and the tax payer, why should they pay for the financial mismanagement and poor risk management and the near-on criminal activities / unethical practices of the financial services sector? At least if it is restricted to banks, the pain is felt a bit closer to home. I have no problem with bonuses (no matter how large) in banks that didn't need government help. However, I would like to see those banks who took the government hand outs pay it all back with interest.
-
Does he now have to repay the £1000 he was awarded for the old bill searching his dorset home?
-
No, but we damn well should be. I am all for capitalism and wealth creation, but what the financial services industry did was bordering on criminal. But they still don't get it, do they? It's one more thing dragging on the sector, but it's spread over 10 years, so it's not so consequential. It's petty theft from bank balance sheets People like Robert Albertson defrauded the rest of the economy with their deliberate pre-packaging of worthless ****. ...and our lot were just as guilty. British Banks should pay it back with interest.

Cheers for that, got worried for a minute. They have just said on BBC that 100,000 are feared to have been killed. With a population of 8.5 million, that represents 1.25% of the population. That would be equivalent to 750,000 people being killed in the UK. That puts into perspective the scale of the disaster and my sympathies go out to all who have been affected.
