After tonight’s game would you care to reconsider this ???
-
I reckon that as Derby are charging for the stream, they won't give free access to Saints Player, as it may cut their income

Radio 5 Sports News at 11.30 this morning, on reporting today's moves started by saying that they now knew that VvD would not be leaving Saints during this window.

Can they name 24 players for a squad in Italy then ??

I'm a bit older than you lot, so my first cult hero was Eric Day, a centre forward (striker to you) who came to the Saints after the war from the Commandoes. He was hard as nails, and when kicked, which was often, just got up and got on with it. Another useless player that had a cult status and I remember fondly was called Fred Kemp. Would run all day for the team, and achieve virtually nothing. A bit similar to Tony Byrne.

The article says he is 21 but from the picture he looks closer to 40

Yes I remember Alf Bond. Saw him 3 or 4 times at The Dell. In those days bookings were quite rare and sending offs very rare. But also players had a lot more respect for the refs back then. Decisions were not questioned, even when they were clearly wrong. But the game was different then. If you scored it was a quick hand shake, not all of the palaver we see today. And if your opponents scored a good goal, the whole stadium would applaud it. Sounds daft, but it was considered the 'sporting' thing to do

Some of them seemed very 'leggy'. I think the shear number of games in the past few weeks has caught up with us. The international break has come at the right time, although several of them will be playing of course.

Ralph said judge us after the window has closed. Well now it has closed, so let's judge them. As far as I am concerned, from a very bad start, we have ended up in a very good position. I'm looking forward to a very good season

Christ, there's a load of youngsters on here. I thought I'd be one of the younger ones at 67, coming 68 but clearly I'm not. Full user name is 'Sinned in the Office' (don't ask). Born & bred in Freemantle and lived and worked in Southampton all my life. (Still working part time). First game 27th Dec 1949, but at 5 years old & sat on my Uncle's shoulders, I don't remember much about it. Looking at the records I see it was Saints 3rd game in 4 days, which looks to be quite common at Christmas back then. Became hooked on Saints when reading papers on the 5th Round Cup games against Blackpool in early 1953. Figured that if we had beaten them in the first game (and we nearly did !) we would have won the Cup and not them. Instead we got relegated. At the start of the 53/54 season got my mum to pay for me every Saturday to go to the Dell (1st team one week, the Reserves the next) so my first season was in Division 3 (South) i.e. the lowest league at that time. ST holder since 1971. Don't miss many home games but don't go away too often now. First favourite player: Eric Day All time favourite player: Ron Davies Most memorable time: Watching Bally, Williams and Golac playing triangles down the right wing. There wasn't a defence that could live with them. Least favourable time: The Branfoot era. Hoofball + . Even worse than the Dutchmen. Odd memories: 1. Snogging my mates fiancee when Stokesie scored at Wembley. My mate was stood next to her, but she snogged me. Never did work it out. 2. Seeing Jimmy Shields literally break the net when scoring at the Dell. Game was delayed for 10 minutes, so that the Groundsman could find a ball of string & tie the net up again.

Donkey's years ago, against Liverpool at the Dell. Hughie Fisher fed a free kick through to Mick Channon, who netted after about 45 seconds. We then spent the next 89 minutes camped in our penalty area, whilst they hit us with everything they had. Also, I remember a game at Leeds, in the Revie era, when we did what was considered impossible and beat them 1 - 0. The brilliant Dave Maclaren was in goal, and saved everything. Probably the only game that he saved anything !!!

Hartlepool United have just put it out that the game is off due to continuing bad weather

Oh Come On !!!! Surely the Alan Shearer hat-trick against Arsenal on his debut was the mostunforgettable

Ken Monkou. Turned down a contract, and then played for Huddersfield on a short term contract & then disappeared

I know I'm thick and don't understand anything at all, but I understand that the Pinnacle bid was accepted, but part of that deal was that they had to deposit a £500,000 non-returnable deposit for the matter to move on to exclusivity. Although thet had agreed that condition, when push came to shove, they either could not or would not pay it over. I think Fry's statement on the OS seems to back this up.
