Gotta be done Has Skacel signed yet?

On the subject of the pitch, as my abusive neutral mate pointed out in the pub, WTF have our ground staff been smoking. The pitch had the weirdest wobbly lawn mower lines we've seen on a tv. Thought it was the beer at first, but no, wiggly lines. Don't tell me wiggly's come back now Rupe's is here?

Well, the last two would be good news, the first one would but only if they are stumping up silly money AND it gets done in time for us to get a decent replacement in. Can just see us affording Boa Morte and Quashie lol

I have heard a VERY solid rumour. Our old friend tommac is casting around to secure a new financial backer. To supply him with 5 quid so he can re-register onto here

Patience friends. Keep filling up the SUV's and this lot down here will have more than enough to go round...... Hmm Interesting concept. So what happens when EVERY English Football League club has had a multi-million pound investment....? Do the takeoverers start looking for billionaires to buy the millionaires out?

Do you do private consultations Frasier? Fair few on here would have a whip round to get you to sort out some of our "scoobllstdavidalpsundanctommacs" But only after me:-)!!!!

Oh well, it was obviously all my fault again. If you see me posting anything about the result in a prematch build up thread just shoot me. Seems I got it pretty accurate, if the linesman had not had any balls I would have been spot on. dubai_phil Full Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Just where it says on the label Posts: 2,175 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh dear, it'll all go wrong. Sorry guys couldn't help myself, but my two sons are in town and we've decided to go and watch the game in the pub (Goodfellas Jay has a table booked at his namesake) and I'm dragging my abusive non saints mates with me to show them the revolution... So in keeping with my quality prediction record that means we'll be crap, won't string two passes togther, will play hoofball and lose 0-4........ But then just to help out, decided to get the weather report in early. The weather here today is nice, the summer heat has moved on and it is a pleasant 36C with lower than expected humidity and a reasonable on-shore breeze keeping things pleasant. Good to see it is sunny in Blighty as well (Ok so really Come on Saints, I've had to take sh*t down here for YEARS. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let the Sky curse be banished along with the doom and gloom of the last few seasons!)

Nobody who has ever played football from pub teams upwards likes to be taken off and subbed unless they are injured. The trouble with kids is also their strength = their inexperience leads to drive energy and motivation, but also of course they have no fear of failure. I've mentioned before that one of the issues with fans calling for chopping and changing every week is the mental impact this has on the youngsters. Take DMG, on Saturday he did nothing wrong, could have taken up better positions, been a bit more decisive, but he did not have a BAD game. So in two weeks he's likely to be dropped for SJ to "add a bit more bite". How does that make him feel? White may well have been the proverbial rabbit in the headlights on the pitch, but then as our central midfielders had real problems moving the ball around, how much was his fault? He probably felt the booking and the penalty meant he let the whole team down. Maybe he did, but that would have been the first time he had that emotion in front of 15,000 people. The mental impact on him will now weigh heavily for the next two weeks, he most likely won't get a place in the starting line up in 2 weeks and it will possibly be quite a few weeks before he is ready again. The posts on here before the game, "we could be 5th", we're gonna walk this league reflected the self belief that JP is instilling in the lads. (and was also way out of order!) This game was the first real knock-back for all of them. They simply did not turn up. It may have happened before in Academy or reserve games but at SMS and on TV...... The problem now is not one of plan B but of picking themselves up and "getting back on the bike". White looked gutted, he's probably the first of the youngsters to learn a very hard lesson. He is probably not alone, before Saturday some were calling Gillett the new Paul Scholes. My neutral mate answered that one - yeah Paul Scholes when he couldn't see anything with his eye problems. Harsh lesson on Saturday for all of them, White will be a far better player now for the lesson, but not for a few weeks IMHO
-
Suggest you email that thought to JP who clearly said in an interview last week that he wants midfielders in those positions. Should be an interesting debate (believe it was in the Mail and posted on here)

Good to see that the GB supporters are out in force. Let's change it every week, and that worked how well last year? White had a mare in the first half and had to go, the Gillett/Spiderman axis wasn't working either and went early in the 2nd half, JP bought on two attackers and somebody who has played well in DM. Cork hasn't played as DM for us YET. Pretty logical really, shame we couldn't pass the ball more than the substitutions. 2 weeks to get the new boys better bedded in to the system in training and to know their role in the team. Expect to see changes for QPR

Attendance Vs Blackpool 5th lowest in the league

lol just how much MORE emoty it would have looked in the telly if we'd kept the corners open. Chill. It's the last weekend of August, people are still on vacation, they saved a day from their allowance last week with the bank holiday. Was never going to be busy. We are now a 17/18,000 fans club until we attract a few more back to watch. One win away and a game you could see on tv was never going to give more than the Brum game -
From where we were sitting the problem today was stuff all to do with a plan B. It was all the more to do with the complete lack of actually playing to plan A. We sat down to watch this pass and move we have heard so much about and from the first few seconds we chipped the ball into the air. To be honest apart from a few overcomplicated passing moves and a couple of jinks by DMG & Lallana it could very easily have been a replay of some games last year. Plan A is football on the deck and pass and move, there were only very few occassions today where we seemed to play short balls instead of long hopeful balls into space. It was execution today, not simply just planning. What JP needs to do is get the kids playing Plan A properly first and coping with their "off days". Adding a plan B now would just add too much confusion to the learning curve

The "**** taking neutral mate" with us in the pub reckoned that only Kelvin and luck stood between us and a 5 or 6 goal walloping today. The defence was being torn apart way outside the penalty area , you can't blame KD for not marshalling defenders who are being between for pace r in the air clser to the halfway line than the box and there weren't that many crosses or corners placed that close to the keeper. Just our luck that our first proper footballing lesson of the season came on tv, but then we really rather expect that these days.

Expected to see the much vaunted pass and move with the bal on the ground. From almost the first kick we seemed to keep chipping or lobbing the ball into the air. Gillett after so many good reports seemed not to get going and that seemed to set the tone. Holmes looked quality in the first half but not much support in the box when he crossed it. Our defence was torn apart time and again by pace and passing movements, Blackpool really could have scored 4 or 5 on a luckier day. We seemed to leave huge gaps around the pitch. It seemed as if we were probably nervy with the cameras, and simply never got going. Blackpool then scared us a few times cutting us apart and the kids never relaxed into their own game. Some flashes around the edge of their box, Lallana looked quality until he was withdrawn deeper when the switches were made. DMG still early days, it will come but SJ kept things a little tighter Very disappointing, bad day to have taken mates to the pub to show them the new revolution. Most hurtful comment. "So how was that different from the last shower of sh*t you took us to watch...." Shows how we rely already on Gillett, he didn't fire straught away and neither did we Reality is good though, we have been getting AWFULLY carried away

GOOD GRIEF. Just spotted this WE HAVE BEEN TAKEN OVER. An end to all the takeover threads, the deal is done, young Gasmi has the option to buy us at the end of the season. I assume this means that the deal allows Gasmi to buy the Football side of the business out from SLH.

What is going on? Not a SINGLE post that we are signing an injury prone nobody with a bad attitude who can't get a regular place in a French 2nd division outfit? :-) If things carry on at this rate in finding these French youngsters, it could well be that letting Georges Prost retire back to France and unearth these "gems" could have been the best thing that ever happened to Saints. Now all we need to make a great weekend would be confirmation of him signing, 3 points and a performance on telly and a taxi for Euell, Skacel & BWP... But then we're Southampton so we know everything always goes wrong.......

ditto - welcome to the crazy carousel ride Anthony

Again, the first post in this thread shows we still do not understand what is happening with JP. We do not sign "EXCITING" players. We have already got 9 or 10 EXCITING players of our own who WANT to play football and be with THEIR MATES that they have grown up with while in the academy. We only have the bare bones of a squad. We NEED to keep bringing in youngsters like Mills OCCASSIONALLY, but at the same time we need to keep as many of our EXCITING players in the team as we can. What we ARE short of are players who can come in and fill any one of a number of positions, who are happy to maybe get 10 or 12 full games in a year and maybe 5 or 6 trips off the bench. Exciting players want to be out there everyday (look at Lallana vs Brum when JP said he was being rested) Pulis will not be exciting but he will come in and provide cover, giving TIME for the likes of Gobern, Mills, Racine, Patterson to be introduced carefully and without buring out the other youngsters. Rather a SQUAD player who WANTS to be here and is NOT expensive than a Euell or a Skacel sulking around because they can't get Holmes/Schneiderlin out of the team and costing us 750k a year that we don't have. And like others have said. If you are SO sure he will be rubbish for us, can you post tomorrow's winning lottery numbers for the rest of us. We'd appreciate the insight. thanks
