It simply requires a weekly input of noodles, chicken and rice

Never knew which gave us a bigger buzz that night, the fact we had got to Wembley OR the utter shock that Curran had managed to swing his leg in the right direction to send the ball towards the net rather than Southampton General Hospital (and yep it was scored at the Archers)

I forget who it was, but a coach at Saints at the time said George Lawrence is, without a doubt, the greatest footballer since Pele........ ...................... From the shoulders down. (In fact we often wonder how he remembers to actually breathe....) was the more PC gist of the next line.)
  4. lucky = they would have sacked you for your spelling
  5. Luckily down here had never heard nor seen of him until the movie "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" Have to say he worked in that role. But of course, now we wait and see whether he was acting or just being himself. If the latter then he's going to have a career as long as his ego tells him he is a star but noone else would think so
  6. uh - wrong.... The Royal Family in Dubai don't "do property development". What they do is run "Sovereign Wealth Funds" that are tasked with building a long-term spread of investments to secure the future prosperity of the country and it's citizerns (as opposed to residents) Dubai is built upon TRADE, which is why you will find they bought out companies with long term and secure bases in the Shipping, Transportation and Infrastructure markets. P&O ports operations world wide (except in the US), the Free Trade Zone around the world run by Jebel Ali, global Airline Reservation systems and software, even a large proportion of the (not so awful) food loaded onto aircraft at UK airports is owned by Dubai. Like I said, they have brains and they have principles. A SMALL SCALE property investment opportunity in where exactly? In a market that is doing what exactly? If you were talking about Nakheel or Emaar and global development then fine, but unless it is a multi-billion dollar project with sound risk taking partners, it won't happen. (And let's face it a couple of billion would buy the WHOLE of the City of Portsmouth for redevelopment = hmmm there's an idea. Theme Parks ala Dubai Land They are NOT likely to buy Southampton or Newcastle either, if they get anyone it will be Arsenal...... Strangely as it may seem (to Mr Ashley as well) foreigners with brilliant schemes to take lots of money off "rich Arabs" have been pitching up on these shores for 41 years. They are always warmly greeted, have nice meetings where they make their pitches which are sympathetically received. They go home thinking "wow that was great" and then wonder why nothing happens......
  7. Nice idea, but as we seem to have already been told that the directors are only working 3 days a week due to our financial state, not sure how much "money" this would save. Then due to the fact that too many fans have selective memories or an axe to grind, it wouldn't work because somebody somewhere would start the "it's all a marketing gimmick, it's spin, he was never taking a salary only a bonus, he'll still take money out by the backdoor, how much do we pay Wilde/Lowe etc in travel expenses??? Nice idea, nice concept, would like to see something tried But this one Totally unworkable in reality

Those were the days, we used to count the number of crosses that Curran made that found a Saints player. Apart from his goal during his career at home we had the count of crosses at - 1 Had a similar thing when Benali was at Left-back - Mr Distribution Or when Russell Osman did NOT HOOF the ball upfield Or when George Lawrence played an intelligent ball....... those were the days

As a winger, made Terry Curran look like a quality signing IMHO
  10. Friday - recovered from Thursday night hangover Saturday - took sons to driving range cooked a big dinner for them all and floodlit Par 3 watched Battlestar Galactica season 4 on DVD Sunday - did absolutely nothing until footie on tv Monday - 9 holes of proper Golf with the sons was 44C and humid as hell then stuck in traffic jam for 2 hours - hands so sweaty clubs kept flying out - yuk 3/10 (but only because the hangover had been worth getting
  11. Unfortunately the muppets who've been rubbing their bonus money in our faces for the past 10 years or so have SO totally fooked up the entire system that most of us will feel the effects in one way or another. From my industry, many people in IT companies in Europe can't sell anything because the companies that buy new stuff can't raise a capital budget for investment as nobody wants to burn up any spare cash they have and are all (like SLH) being "asked" to reduce their borrowings. Their salaries are all 60:40 fixed to bonus and most are looking at a BIg reduction of their bonus cheques and no "new jobs" to move away into. This just filters all the way through, less to spend on leisure, home improvements etc etc etc. A long way left to fall yet and those arrogant assh*les in the brokerages who are now being dumped on their asses would be a source of great lolage if they were not taking so many innocents with them. Hang the lot of them I say....
  12. The Dubai Royal Family link - love that one. Some bad news for the sk*tes, the boys down here have BRAINS and they have ISSUES with certain parts of the Eastern Mediterranean. Dubai Royal Family pumping 300 mil plus money for a new stadium into an entity that was bought for 32 mil and held together by brown paper string and vinegar to hide the fact that a JEWISH, potential International Criminal wishes to do business with them. Yeah can see Sheikh Mo turning up in Tel Aviv to negotiate... lol The Dubai guys are more likely to buy US than the sk*tes, both stupid ideas when they can screw Ashley into the ground for about 80 mil and a promise of future pennies when Newcastle get into the CL. For that they get a REAL club lol
  13. I used to say on TSF that the only types of people who would buy football clubs would be egotistical billionaires OR large foreign corporations wishing to "leverage" their branding onto a global stage. Got the second one right:-) The problem is that for 88 or so clubs, the amount of success they can achieve is so limited, and the huge breadth of backgrounds and motivations of the fans is so diverse that it is actually impossible to please all of the fans all of the time. Looking at us, some are happy we now play football properly, some are happy that we are working to a plan to develop youngsters, some (well Scooby) are happy that Lowe is back, BUT the forum is still in the majority believing everything is wrong. believers in the kids think the management is wrong and so on and so on. So the PROBLEM with wanting a takeover is that the TYPE of person (as opposed to a corporation) who WANTS to be in charge of a football club is primarliy an egotist, somebody who is prepared to allow their life to be dissected, criticised and abused beyond any other sector of "business" in the UK, apart from Politics. We've got Rupert, but a replacement individual is likely to be an even bigger "fool" than Ashley. Think about it. We critique like crazy, but in reality how many of US would want the job and what it does to your life? Only those who'd like to go on Big Brother types would be my guess:-)
  14. Good job us wise 'uns got out while the queues weren't too big then :-)
  15. Hopefully they'll find something dubious that means West Ham have to pay back the money they received in sponsorship - nasty but nice More to the point WHU owner is hit with a 152million quid bill for the loan guarantees (you guys google it can't be ars*d)
  16. They are well placed to come out of the recession stronger than they went in. Good effocient fleet of aircraft, good route planning and careful cost control Will probably end up bigger than BMI and Alitalia :-) Now if they would just lengthen the runway at Eastleigh, proper planes could fly in... link to article this week http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtml?xml=/money/2008/09/08/bcnflybe108.xml
  17. 1) I am not chuffed, BUT I was far more upset by the way we played against Blackpool, in THAT game we were flat and never played at all. Yesterday, we PLAYED our way back into the game, went down to 10 men and still clawed our way back. 2) I criticised the team after the Blackpool game, and I criticised Lancashire and DMG in post match threads yesterday. However my criticism was based around points that occurred on the PITCH and the fact that Ollie should never have been out there without experience alongside him and DMG is not "hungry" or experienced in and around the box. I will NOT mix criticism of the team in a MATCH with blanket criticism of everything related to SFC/SLH/Management/The global economic crisis and pure bad luck which is inane, pointless and will do NO good because there are over 600 posters on here who ALL have DIFFERENT opinions on what to do next and would STILL criticise even IF TSW took the club over. Destructive, point scoring criticism gets us nowhere, it's REALLY an effective way to implement improvement to go around calling people muppets or w8nkers which we do on here a lot and it gets us WHERE exactly? 3) Lallana was some people's MotM, he was EVERYWHERE. However, that means he was often NOT where he was supposed to be. Many on here sound off about James, but at the same time the "wide attacking midfielder" should be providing cover. When Dyer came on (also moaned about his final ball) what he DID do was to pop up in covering positions at full-back, ie what he was supposed to do. The team try play down the wings with width and pace. We have two holding midfielders who are by definition supposed to sit in front of the defence. Against Blackpool, Gillett had a poor game and his passing was off, yesterday he was better BUT I am not convinced that he and Schneiderlin are the correct balance. Unlike many posters, I said I would NOT pass judgement on the "grand plan" until the loan window closes. We all see what is needed, but in our rush to be "so much wiser about football" than the management we have conveniently forgotten the fact that we HAVE ALREADY TRIED TO SIGN A CENTRE HALF. I will wait another 2 weeks and pass my interim judgement, but we did not get thrashed 4-1 or played off the park and the last two goals came "LATE ON" as we were chasing the game with players who had run themselves out for the cause. That HAPPENS in football or of course we could just play Italian style and keep 11 men behind the ball every week..........
  18. I'm in the wrong business, should be an importer of hang-man's nooses to Saints fans. We made a schoolboy error after 37 seconds, and then were the better team on the pitch until a decision that was ALWAYS likely, technically deserved BUT I doubt it would have been red if a home player or not on TV (I posted about the QPR fans celebrating Friend as ref which had his red card record) After that we still held together well with 10 men and created chances, BUT obviously gave them more space and more chances. We get back to 1-1 with good football, (how come we aren't drooling over the goal FFS) then get hit with a sucker punch offside decision. We start to chase the game, we leave gaps - doh, that happens to teams with 11 players on the pitch, concede on 73 minutes when many of the players legs had gone from playing with 10 for almost an hour. Only then did we start to try hoofball, the legs weren't up to it and we concede a late fourth. It was NOT a world class performance, the starting line up was wrong and the defensive organisation and leadership was wrong. HOWEVER it was a HELL of a lot better than many of the defeats last season, and at least down here it was fully expected as this sh*t ALWAYS happens to us on the telly.
  19. She was average, but couldn't wait to get rid of her in the morning, her conversation skills just weren't up to the mark. Will see if she's improved next year when she stops over again next year if I have a gap in my calendar
  20. Not sure we were "muscled" off the ball, simply we didn't make enough space when we had 11 men. Later when the game opened up a little more we did make more around the edge of the box, but I think it is as much that we lack that killer instinct around the box as muscle. DMG will make the grade but would much prefer SJ for the first hour in the next game, once Peckhart came on KD started kicking long more often with obvious results
  21. Here here. FWIW my normally abusive mates were texting me through the game, and their comments were basically naive but classy and quality and probably the best CCC game they've seen in terms of skill from both sides. My Jock mate was gutted to learn that most of them are qualified for England. He wanted to know if Lallana had ever been to McDonalds so he could be qualified for Scotland
  22. We have a different commentary from the Sky crew, but the same pictures (minus Rupe's though unfortunately) Our man believed Lallana was everywhere, unfortunately often it was Spiderman - (showing our guy was probably watching on a small screen somewhere like the rest of us!) Apart from that, yes he is going to be the business, work to do, could have done more with his volley and is wasted out wide.
  23. So we are both in agreement, he didn't NEED to make that tackle. I never moaned about the positioning or that James was further up the pitch, simply he should have made the angle better during his chase of him, "stayed on his feet" and Delaney was going nowhere. Inexperience pure and simple
  24. I agree Hoddle right now is the answer, BRILLIANT idea The Glenn Hoddle Academy (GHA) is an independent football school in Spain of all places for young players discarded by professional clubs. Hoddle, who won 53 caps for England believes that clubs make decisions on players far too early and that many potentially good players are slipping through the net. Something I tend to agree with. Therefore, Hoddle is offering a second chance to around 40 players a season to prove themselves capable of earning pro deals I wonder how many gems he has down there waiting for a loan deal to get experience Only see two problems 1 It's only been open since 1st Aug 2 He has people who have invested large sums of money in the venture and would most likely not expect Glenn to leave his lifelong dream Otherwise sound concept Oh except the last chancers won't have any CCC experience, but otherwise
