OK so next question We play one up front We have Peckhart, SJ, DMG, BWP & Lallana all able to play there But we've signed a forward Why? The end of the loan window is approaching, the doors will revolve
-
Europeans in "not getting paid by Gulf Arabs" shocker hahahahahahahahaha never heard THAT one before
-
Let's face it, with Holmes injured, Lallana is wasted on the wing, DMG/Dyer/BWP really don't cut it as wingers and our formation is not suited to the players we have. So IF this is one out one in before the window shuts then that's great. I would expect Dyer gone, cheaper replacement but better suited to the gaos in the squad and maybe we could play Skacel IF he wants to play footie ever again or is he retired and just doing a world cruise?

I actually think they are good enough. (ooh DP controversial!) But ah - ok people develop physically and mentally at different rates, and hence different ages, what I think is happening is that in order to succeed "with kids" some are ready for 3 games a week, some for only one a month. I saw Lallana a couple of times some years ago and TBH he looked out of his depth, he was still developing. Now the concept I think is sound, the players are good enough, BUT I actually think we don't have ENOUGH of them. In some ways we are trying to get the youth team of 2/3 years ago to be ready to play in the CCC all at the same time, human development means that they aren't ready. Because we didn't really have a process for bringing the kids on from 18-21 previously, many were let go or of course sold for big bucks. The depth just is not there this season. So the OBVIOUS solution is bring in a Gasmi/Schneiderlin or two and some loan players. there are many CCC players like Wotton on 5-7k per week or less who could do a job when surrounded by a few quality kids who are carefully managed. One thing I learnt this week was a mate did some sums and reckons that Euell, Thomas, SJ & Skacel are costing the club something close to 2million pound in wages this season. That amount of money could have paid for 6 loanees/wise old CCC heads and a couple of extra kids. Without restarting the "those 4 should play argument" I think a lot of our problems and the success or failure of "surviving" this season is as much about a lack of numbers for JP to choose from as it is about numbers through the gates. Most of these kids can make it, just it won't be all at once.

Let's face it, using an old college term, there is empirical evidence that the concept of creating something with kids does work. Unfortunately, even in the most famous case, it has already taken a number of years http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/arsenal/3074586/Carlos-Vela-salutes-Arsenal-manager-Arsene-Wengers-faith-in-youth---Football.html In that time by their own standards, Arsenal have actually been a failure. Perhaps this will be the year. Compare their age groups with those of our squad and actually we are trying to build with in the main inexperienced young men, not simply kids. Anyway, the concept obviously works, the planning is obviously sound. Just seems the execution is not what it needs to be at SMS. Perhaps IF those kids had been given more loan time or Saints experience in the past couple of years it may have helped. But FWIW on the "uberfan" argument, not many empty spaces at the Emirates Stadium to watch THEIR youth team in the PL. (

Actually I can now exclusively reveal that the funds are being raised in America, who are now the new Nigeria. What is more I now have the PROOF as contained in an email received this week Dear American: I need to ask you to support an urgent secret business relationship with a transfer of funds of great magnitude. I am Ministry of the Treasury of the Republic of America. My country has had crisis that has caused the need for large transfer of funds of 800 billion dollars US. If you would assist me in this transfer, it would be most profitable to you. I am working with Mr. Phil Gram, lobbyist for UBS, who will be my replacement as Ministry of the Treasury in January. As a Senator, you may know him as the leader of the American banking deregulation movement in the 1990s. This transactin is 100% safe. This is a matter of great urgency. We need a blank check. We need the funds as quickly as possible. We cannot directly transfer these funds in the names of our close friends because we are constantly under surveillance. My family lawyer advised me that I should look for a reliable and trustworthy person who will act as a next of kin so the funds can be transferred. Please reply with all of your bank account, IRA and college fund account numbers and those of your children and grandchildren to wallstreetbailout@treasury.gov so that we may transfer your commission for this transaction. After I receive that information, I will respond with detailed information about safeguards that will be used to protect the funds. Yours Faithfully Minister of Treasury Paulson

You know, one day we'll get bored with name calling and the blame game and the number of active posters on this site will drop down to about 150 oh Meanwhile on a different day, probably not this Friday, somebody will pop up and let us know that Fulofit and co aren't the only ones out there thinking about kicking some tyres In the meantime, Fifteen - Love to Sundance simply for the smiley wife dig. Wes to serve, new balls please

It's all Euell's fault that TS can't use his idea. If ONLY he hadn't tried to make the effort to get himself fit by playing in a reserve game and giving his all, he would not have dislocated his shoulder, would have been available to be lent/transferred and would have saved us around 750k in wages in a year which we could have used to have brought in a couple of wise old CCC journeymen to help the kids Boo Euell out - why did he make an effort, noone else seems to Now we pay the wages and have no football player for months

Aston Villa 0 - 1 QPR - Brighton 2 - 2 Man City

I agree with the sentiment. The Carling Cup always springs "surprise" results, and many other fans (especially the sk*tes) wake up with the "oh well" feeling. BUT in our case the result is not the point, it was the fact that we simply did not turn up to play as reflected in JP's post match "comments" We stopped playing after the Derby game, looked bad against Blackpool, could argue we were unlucky against QPR but since then it is becoming a WTF. -
Who in their right mind would WANT to buy the club even if they DID win the 100 mil Just imagine Alps won it. He'd be pilloried by everyone who ever thought a glass may be half full. Stu Romsey Saint would be having the local Methodists around DEMANDING that he set the general public an example and stopped drinking beer Master Bates would stalked by the campaign for internet censorship Me - yuk - taxes Just imagine you pump in 10 mil now, get rid of the amigos and we don't make the playoffs - paint stripper all over your nice new Nissan GTR/Bentley, Jiffi bags of dog pooh delivered to your home becasue you didn't do what Fred in Paulsgrove demanded... No siree who'd WANT to be a Football Chairman - only a complete nutcase... Which is why we seem to get so many of them I suppose

Thanks guys, I think I know all the one-line one's:-) Used them myself But DM that's helpful, any others like that out there?

Well thinking about it over night, reckon you just got the title of the thread slightly wrong Whining doesn't matter anymore Looks like the die is cast and unless someone comes up with a new idea PDQ.......

OK here's a thought. We "YEARN" for a takeover, but just for one moment, take a step back and see if you can answer this question IF you were a successful business person and a prospective buyer of a football club why would you buy Southampton? Business is about making profit, selling and marketing, but someone asked me today Why would ANYONE want to buy "your lot| Any ideas?
-
I posted this after the Blackpool game. There were interviews with JP & the players in pre-season about how we started early and did a great deal of ball work and also played more games than usual. It made me think back to comments by CMFG about WGS's pre-season about how he made the players run up and down sand dunes until they were physically sick and then made them do it again. that season was some of our best football, a pressing high temp game which caused a lot of teams problems. Since then we lost that edge and also a yard of pace - both in movement and thought. I am worried about it but as I haven't seen any live games I only analyse and wonder I can't critcise

And a good one. However, you only have to look at Bournemouth to see that the entire Admin process is extremely messy, the actual structure of the organisation, the nature of the creditors and any charges or maybe debentures that they have, plus the fact that you then have to deal with sealed bid processes rather than open negotiations. When you have your backs to a wall facing a firing squad, any deal will do, but it is not often that it is the right deal. Also the admin process itself is fraught = the 10 point (minimum) penalty, the fact that it can take two or three months at least leads to even more instability. So in reality it comes down to WHY an investor would want to buy the club. Admin is a "cheap deal" so the type of people buying the business are more likely to be "out to make a buck" or local people wanting to play with the train set. A managed sale allows a different level of business interest - a long term investment and development stratgey, corporate branding etc. Abu Dhabi would not for example have bought Man City if they were in liquidation, but as Thaksin had to sell they held a stronger hand. Ashley hasn't worked it out yet that he is screwed at Newcastle - he asked for 400 mil, when everyone knows he should be taught a lesson and sell for 150.... It's all about THE DEAL, not the "EGO" in this financial climate
-
So all of us with any business contacts need to revisit them and see if there are really any egotistical millionaires out there who want to have a train set to play with. Might be easier without the divisions of last year, but harder with the financial situation. As an old wise Sales manager of mine said many years ago You don't ask you don't get

You know I would comment but I truly cannot think of anything to say
