Is Ronald Koeman the highest-merited manger in the Prem.?
Golden Balls replied to david in sweden's topic in The Saints
That's mad! Channon got 236 in 732 career appearances. -
Ronald will have some selection headaches ahead of this one. Forster Cedric - Fonte - VvD - Bertrand Romeu - Clasie Davis - Mane - Tadic Pelle Very harsh on Long and Targett to be honest. But Long coming off the bench for Pelle in the 2nd half would be terrifying for a tired defender. Maybe have Targett LM instead of Tadic. I don't know. Either way someone will be harshly dropped.
-
No but I get the feeling he'll start ahead of Classie who had a rare full game. I'd keep it the same with Victor on the bench.

Romeu was my man of the match. He was top draw and protected the defence excellently. Targett was brilliant 1st half. He seems a lot more relaxed with Bertrand behind him. Like the pressure is off a bit. Shane Long had another great game. He has his critics as he does miss chances, but so do the rest of the team. He won so many flick ons (2 of which he chased down himself), dragged defenders everywhere and scored. What more can we ask? Mane was wasteful with his chances but to be fair, a couple of them he created out of nothing. And that's why he's wanted by bigger clubs, as he has that ability. Although he won't get away with his inconsistencies at a team like United. Typical Steven Davis performance today. Such a good player. Fraser may have had little to do but the defence looked a million times more confidant, and I put that down to him.

The word "day" doesn't go imo. Week might work slightly better. Good though.

RIP. Didn't know him to be honest but that's a hell of a commitment. Was he a member on here? 'Philly Saint' seems like a username I've seen.

Would people hypothetically pay more at the gates for more signings?
Golden Balls replied to eddie's topic in The Saints
I'm annoyed as it is how much I pay to go to games. If it goes up again I'm seriously considering jacking it in. Especially after what looks like it will be a poor season, terrible atmosphere and the fact the club will get far more tv money. -
To be fair, nobody can really get anything out of them these days. Like it or not he's a very good manager. If he went to United he would need to be given a season to get the team playing his way. Personally my favourite season since we came up was his full season here. Really organised defence, brilliant attacking style of play with a lot of young English players. I was very disappointed we didn't get the chance to see what that team could have achieved.

But for a fantastic goalkeeping display from David James we could have been 3-4 goals up and game over before Wayne Thomas and Chris Perrys legs went when chasing the game.
-
Of course they want a hand out. It's ingrained in them.

Swansea losing to a L2 side. The exact reason I'm glad we didn't get that lot down the road. We are lacking confidence and fight. They'd have nothing to lose.
-
I see they let a lead slip in the final moments missing out on the famousest giant killing yesterday. Shame. Another game they could do without really.

St Mary's - The Best venue for away support
Golden Balls replied to Kingsland Red's topic in The Saints
Obviously been discussed a few times. It really is a disadvantage. If we could put them round a corner like the Kingsland, like it is at Leicester then it would help a lot. Seems to be a police thing but I don't get it personally. Coaches could use the car park, bridge takes them to the station. Easy. -

His display against Liverpool was up there with Alan Bennett debut.

Did he play much at Boro?
-
They really have to go some to avoid automatic promotion. If they manage that then they'll really have to go some to lose the play offs. They should be strolling that league.
-
Can't be any worse than Caulker. Will be sat on the bench a lot though.
-
It would be naive to think we shouldn't be concerned. However I can't see it actually happening, and neither can the bookies. We are on a terrible run. But runs come to an end. We are creating chances, eventually we will start to take them more regularly again. I think when Pelle returns he will have a new lease of life and the team will feed off it. We do need another striker though. Our defence has been shaky but we do have talent there. Fonte, VVD and Bertrand. RB isn't great and I'm hoping Forster comes back like his old self. But teams that go down generally don't have that sort of quality at the back. Wanyama needs to be left out. He is a much better player than he's showing this season and a spell away from the team might just kick him up the arse. If it doesn't, get rid. A creative midfielder (Like Gaston was supposed to be) would be a good addition. Maybe a RM to free Mane up to move centrally. My point is, a team with Forster, Bertrand, Fonte, VVD, Wanyama, Tadic, Mane, Pelle and Steven Davis will find form again and should get enough points together to at least finish mid table. The summer will be crucial.

I keep wondering why we don't play with 2 DM anymore. Obviously Schneiderlin was top quality but even with OR or JWP in there alongside him we look so much more solid. Our strikers may be misfiring but our defenders look panicked. Back to Wanyama....it looked to me like he wanted to get a red today.
-
I'd say so. Not even the top teams manage that very often.
-
Everything points to us selling our best players and relying on our recruitment to replace them on the cheap. It worked last season. So far this season I'd say it hasn't. You can't keep doing it year after year and expect it to work. It will eventually catch up with you and you end up like Villa.
-
Clearly still a fit man as he was still exercising. Scary how quickly something like this to sneak up on you. RIP.
