Whilst I appreciate that you are trying to play devil's advocate in respect of the penalty we should have had, you are the only person who thinks it wasn't a nailed on pen, so it's not just my opinion. Does this mean that you thought that the shirt tugging on Van Dijk at Chelsea was just six of one half a dozen of the other as well? The fact is clear, Pelle had controlled the ball on his chest facing goal as he was rushing further into the penalty area and the Stoke defender kicked across him made no contact with the ball and impeeded Pelle. So by the rules of the game it's a penalty. As for Cedric, the wound on Saturday was caused by a player two inches shorter than him, so your argument about his height is wrong on that one, similarly a couple of the others were also caused by players of equal or less height than Cedric himself. I guess that leaves you with Cedrics jumping ability not being great, but I have seen him outjump players who are taller than him, so it can't be that either. Leaving us with the most likely explanation, that the challenges have been unfair! Early shout for the theme for the last away of the season, people to wear Rab C Nesbitt style head bands in Cedrics honour!

No one is saying that they want the referee to be biased in our favour, we just want a level playing field for our players. Something which you aren't going to get from Mason when you are playing against Stoke as proved by the research of the Arsenal fans. It may not prove that he is deliberately biased towards stoke but does show that he is biased towards their style of play. Which is not fair on the team's who do not play that way. In response to your question of what he got wrong, aside from the penalty which even the former head of the referees panel said was a stone wall pen, there was Adams professional foul and the two incidents with Arnautovic I previously mentioned. Whilst I agree the team's performance was poor I disagree that Stoke were much better than us and that they deserved to win, at times they were equally as bad as us and had we got those decisions who knows how either team would have reacted. I think that Bournemouth should have had a penalty the other week, so know it isn't just Mason giving poor decisions, and a couple have gone our way but then we have also had two goals scored against us where players were in offside positions and several other instances where we should have gotten a penalty or have had players ruled offside when they are clearly not and numerous instances of fouls on Pelle and Mane going unpunished. Surely it is also unheard of for a player to get a head wound five times in a season and an opposition player not to have been adjudged responsible for at least one of them? I've witnessed the majority of them close up and know that at least two of them should have been punished by the ref. Referees are making mistakes and the standard of their performances is dropping. It looks like it's time to introduce video refs, to alleviate the pressure on the referee and ensure that the big incidents are called correctly.
-
Mistakes being made by a referee are just as unacceptable as mistakes made by other people in other professions. You seem to laugh them off and seem to be saying 'Well it's the way things are, it will never change!' That is not acceptable to some of us, some of us are getting tired of seeing abysmal refereeing performances every week. I can't think of one match at St Mary's this season where the referee has had a good game. It would be nice to come away from a game thinking the ref had done well for a change and that Mane, Cedric & Pelle had gotten fair treatment from the officials for once.
-
As others have said, Koeman is too nice. He needs to say more when a referee has given a bad performance and in this case I would make a stand and go so far as to ask the premier league not to allocate Mason to any more of our games. He should also mention the treatment that Graziano is getting from centre backs and subsequently referees. It's got to the point where it's ridiculous, I have noticed recently that he either jumps and has a centre back jumping all over him or doesn't jump and gets a foul given against him for backing in when the defender jumps over him. He is also always penalised when tussling with the centre back on the run, when a lot of the time the centre back has a hand full of his shirt or is clinging on to his arm. I'm not saying that every challenge on him is a foul, but referees see it that about only one in five of the challenges on him are, which is plainly wrong.
-
Really? If he had done a decent job, we wouldn't have been the only team to get a booking and stoke could have possibly been down to ten men. Arnautovic should have been booked for handling Bertrands throwin in the first half and should also have got one for trying to start a fracas with three different players whilst Cedric was being treated. Then there was Bojan punching Cedric as he made a fist and leading with it in the challenge that led to Cedrics head wound. Walters challenge which left Virgil pole axed. Charlie Adams cynical professional foul on Mane to stop our counter attack and Adam leading with the elbow every time he jumped for the ball and finally the challenge on Pelle where he ran up to Mason and told him that he had just been hit in the back of the head only for Mason to tell him to do one. So to say he had little effect on the outcome could be true, but it is more telling that if he had done his job properly he would and should have been instrumental in the outcome.
-
The foul on Pelle in the second half definitely looked like a penalty, but I wasn't surprised that we didn't get it as according to the referees we've had at St Mary's this season Pelle hasn't been fouled once. Also wasn't a surprise as the ref and lino didn't spot Arnautovics handball from Bertrands throw in in the first half or Bojan punching Cedric in the head when they were only a few yards away from each incident. It can only be a matter of time before Pelle loses patience and lumps someone when he's been fouled for the umpteenth time and got nothing for it, the guy has the patience of a saint! Oh yeah and why was Charlie 'the big Jessie' Adams foul on Mane to deliberately stop our attack building not worthy of a yellow?

Southampton to launch major US coaching initiative
SFKA South Woodford replied to Lallana's Left Peg's topic in The Saints
I really hope not, all of the kits from American suppliers look horrible. I would rather stick with Adidas on the proviso that they stop putting plastic stick on badges on the kits or training/leisure wear and that the badges have to be embroidered. Either that or go with one of the smaller but still well known european kit suppliers like Lecoq Sportiff, Admiral or Hummel on the condition that the kit is totally unique to Saints. I appreciate that it won't happen though, as it will have to be manufactured by a company that is a global brand so that the Americans will have familiarity with it, to fit in with the business plan. -
Does anyone else find Koemans defensive shackling of Mane frustrating? Mane is constantly too deep to use his attributes to the full when the team is on the back foot, both against Leicester and Bournemouth when we were under pressure in the second half, Mane was dropping back to within 10 yards of our penalty area, meaning we had no 'out' ball. In this situation and particularly on opposition corners I would like to see him just inside our half looking for the cleared ball out from the defence to get one on one with the last defender, rather than having to try to play through the opposition team that are trying to box us into our own half or having the defence clear the ball just to see no one competing for it and it coming straight back at them.

Targett & Ward-Prowse named in England U21 Euro squad
SFKA South Woodford replied to S-Clarke's topic in The Saints
JWP gets stick for being a lightweight on the pitch in the majority of his games and for letting the game just pass him by rather than getting stuck in. Which is a shame because he has shown in glimpses that when he can be bothered and raises his game he does have the ability to make a contribution. The most annoying thing I find about him though is his tendency to stop running and throw his arms up in the air as a player is going past him, it's like he's saying 'you're too good for me, off you go' rather than tracking the man and trying to get a challenge in. It leaves the defence overrun. That and his constant backwards or sideways passing including those 30 yard first touch backpasses he likes doing. He is incredibly frustrating to watch and needs to buck his ideas up to become more than a bit part player. -
Can anyone remember what the direct line number for the ticket office at St Mary's is? Have been trying to get through on the ticketline number for ages and it's always engaged. Thanks

Saurez's world cup should be over as uraguay should be chucked out of it, cheating their way through 2 world cups in a row, fifa should punish the whole team! As for England, I really can't see what all the fuss is about where sterling, sturridge and berkley are concerned. Sturridge is as wasteful as emile heskey was and Berkley and Sterling are show ponies with little end product. Whereas both Shaw and Lallana did their prospects no harm with trying to drive their mediocre team mates on. Then woy takes off Lallana and brings on all the old codgers and England start dropping deep and inviting pressure. We need to go hunting for the ball when we aren't in possession not drop off and allow team to press us.

I was told last weekend by someone who works at the club that the new kit is already sealed away in the store rooms at St Marys and that it wasn't just some cheap rubbish that Cortese had done a dodgy deal for. I asked if it's going to be a name brand but was told that they couldn't say anymore than that.
-
From what I can tell the leaks about Lallana haven't come from within the club and have come directly from Adams mouth to the media on the proviso that they do not quote him on them. He even said both in his interview after the player awards and the interview in the Man Utd program that he wanted to play champions league football adding the caveat that it didn't mean immediately, so I think it's safe to say that he has been angling for a move for a while now and has told the club that he wants out. Fair enough that he wants to better himself but to go about it in the way he is, is wrong and disrespectful to all of those who have idolised him and all of the effort the club has put into turning him into the player he has at last become. He seems to want to leave on his terms and is trying to push through the deal that Liverpool want us to take. If he wants to go to the scousers so badly, I say take the 25 million on the proviso that he dips into his own pocket to pay the 25% to Bournemouth, if he's so desperate to play for Liverpool in the champions league then it will be a small price for him to pay and will show that he's not all about the money.

Sunderland 1 Saints 0 Match Reaction
SFKA South Woodford replied to Glasgow_Saint's topic in The Saints
You seriously think that Dalek? I thought your Hoddle fixation was crazy enough, but to say that finishing 7th in the premier league is more important to you than winning the FA cup sinks you to a whole new level of crazy! Winning the FA cup is second only to winning the premier league to me! I couldn't give a damn about finishing 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 9th. Reasons for winning he FA Cup: We are unlikely ever to win the league, Pompey have been more successful than us in the last 10 years for winning the cup and that pains me to think let alone even say, I was there in 2003 and want that feeling reversed, I remember seeing how apathetic the Arsenal fans were to winning it that day and thinking no Saints fan would ever be like that, I wasn't old enough to know what was happening the last time we won it and have heard about how great it was and want to experience that feeling, as even though the JPT win was great, it just doesn't come close to the feeling that the FA Cup woud bring. -
He better be ready and he better have some pretty strong shoulders, with the weight of every saints fan, the team and Pochettino's expectations resting on them. Better start putting away some of the easy chances he's spurned too! With Lambert looking totally disinterested and whining for a move to West Ham and Rodriguez swinging from looking world class one minute to not being able to hit the Chapel or Northam stands let alone the back of the net with the ball the next, a lot is going to be asked and expected from him. But hey, because he's not foreign didn't cost a lot of money and hasn't been playing for lower league clubs for a few years without having worked his way up to the premier league, i'm sure we can all cut him just a little bit of slack!

January 2014 Transfer news & rumours
SFKA South Woodford replied to Glasgow_Saint's topic in The Saints
I would rather we kept Dani, so that he can show us what we know he can do! However, if they were willig to swap for Llorente, I'd bite their hand off! -
Reading the West Ham one just gives me further cause to dislike the cockney sc*m. They really do think their club is something special. They are just a bunch of gypsies who wont even have their own ground in a couple of seasons. How the hell are we a much smaller club than them?

Little Snippet In The Sun - Saints 'N' Winners
SFKA South Woodford replied to Gemmel's topic in The Saints
Yeah, it's a shame that he's been so blinkered now he has got Rooney and Sturridge back. If I was in his shoes, I would go for a front line of Rickie up top with Sturridge and Rooney playing off of him. Not going to happen though, woy is too set in his ways to be that adventurous. -
This was as shocking a decision as the one to give us the corner, even if Vorm hadn't handled outside the area, the ball came off of him, so should have been a corner to us at least.

Your favourite Saints players that weren't popular?
SFKA South Woodford replied to Bad Wolf's topic in The Saints
I always liked David Hughes, I remember him at Dellhurst having an impact during the time he was on the pitch, also put in good performances in a number of other games too. He looked like he would go on to be a top player, such a shame that he got such bad injuries and we released him. Having been a goalkeeper in my younger days, John Burridge was also a favourite of mine. Jimmy Case was my absolute favourite though until Matt came along. -
Going on the current requirement of signing young players who will progress and blossom at Saints, how many prolific big name strikers are there under the age of 23? Stands to reason that we will not make a grandstand striker signing that we need to enhance the first team, which we are all hoping for. Could we get Damaio, Munian or De Jong in reality or will they go to Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool or one of the big italian teams which will be the competition we are up against.

£50 for a shirt with an ironed on badge that will come off in the wash, bunch of bandits! Can't stand the home kit as I really wanted the stripes back this year, or at the very least the reverse of the Ajax kit. The away is better, but am not keen on the bloody great V on it. Will wait and see whether they make a decent training kit, before I part with any cash, otherwise i'll happily continue to wear my Umbro Flybe training fleece to matches!

Pointless Early 2013/14 Kit Speculation Thread
SFKA South Woodford replied to The9's topic in The Saints
Totally agree with you Mowgli. I'd also like to see a mock up of what that Swindon shirt would look like with the stripes running down from beneath the white section. -

3d Printers at the ready everyone! -
and this is exactly the reaction that these pr*cks are looking for, they want us to hate anyone from their religon whether they are good or bad people, as soon as you start looking at all people from a group in the same way that's racism, which is exactly the devisive outcome that they are hoping to incite by their words and actions, they can then have their holy muslim vs christian war that they want so badly!
