Thought there would be a few comments about how dire he was when he got on the pitch on Sunday on here! He wouldn't make a run, was generally anywhere between 10 & 30 yards behind the play most of the time & just stood and watched as Davis made that run through late in the game then had no one on the overlap to give it to or draw some of the defenders off of him. He was so bad that Pellegrino even had a go at him on the pitch at the final whistle! To call him garbage would be being unfair to garbage, because at least garbage used to be useful once!

Might as well give the shirt to one of the trees in St Mary's churchyard, it would be more mobile than Austin! He's the human equivalent of a super tanker

Journal tracks back for all of ten minutes before he can't be arsed anymore. Yes he has skill, but he needs to have it drilled into his thick skull that he needs to deliver a dangerous shot or cross after he's beaten two or three players or the same player three times, at present he's all huff & no puff which brings nothing more to the team than what we already have out there. He's also as bad a bottler in the challenge if not worse than Tadic. I'm all for giving him a go but he has to make more of an impact than he has in any of his previous performances. Shelvey will eat him for breakfast if he plays tomorrow. We will also need good communication between the team & faster movement of the ball to hurt Newcastle, oh & playing Lemina & dropping Redmond for Long who can play more closely to Gabbi would be good too!
-
To be fair Chez, he played in pompey for years. After that flailing wouldn't seem like cruelty! He's a bell end of the highest order who actually makes me feel sorry for Bob Carrollgees and after what he inflicted on the nation for years, that takes some doing!
-
Ah, but those stats don't tell you that Redmond failed to come inside on all but five of those take ons & Boufals were against three different defenders whom he decided to try and beat repeatedly before he then lost the ball to them. So can Karamoh beat players on the inside and then cut in directly after beating his man?

Harrison Reed - Official: Signs for Fulham
SFKA South Woodford replied to washsaint's topic in The Saints
As others have said, I hope playing regularly for a manager that lets him play his game should do wonders for Harry. I too have seen his potential and would be disappointed if he doesn't get a chance to be a first team regular at Saints for a manager who gives him a free reign to fully show his capabilities and one who won't drop him after he has played well. He put in some great performances under Pochettino who showed faith in him when Morgan was unavailable. He also put in some great performances under Koeman who then promptly dropped him. Everton at home where he was largely responsible for closing down their midfield making tackle after tackle and not giving up when others would, is a game that particularly stands out. Let's hope he has a great season at Norwich and then gets a good chance back at Saints the following season. -
Jimmy Case for me. Deaf in one ear, could explain why he shouted all the time and put the fear of God into both his team mates and opposition players alike. A heady mix of long range goals and crunching tackles certainly made a big impression on me at a young age.

Other Premier League Transfers - Deadline Day
SFKA South Woodford replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
It's sad to see Onyekuru go to Everton after Saints had reportedly been tracking him for a while, especially for as little as the £7million which is being reported. Sounds like we have missed out on a real gem who could of been a genuine Sadio Mane replacement. Whilst I don't want to see us sign players for the sake of it, I'm not sure that I would agree with Les' words on sky this morning of only one or two players needed. The team still needs like for like replacements for Fonte, Mane & Pelle and a partner for Romeu to get back to where we were before last summer's departures. Which would then give us a solid base for a very good season with a possible trophy at the end of it! -
That's what we should have done last season, but should we have Monsiuer Cautious still in charge next season, we'll be playing for draws in those early games!

Rumours of takeover/investment interest
SFKA South Woodford replied to eling-saint's topic in The Saints
Could this perhaps have something to do with the docks expansion? The land around St Mary's would be ideal for that. Would probably mean having to move the stadium. But would then mean that the land is worth more to Lander for that use, rather than it's current one. -
Rumours of takeover/investment interest

That's a pretty big loss of value in a short period, wasn't Katharina placed in the top five of the richest premier league club owners only a year ago? Also wasn't the Mali group valued at £2 billion only a few years ago? I also doubt that Markus would have left his businesses to Kat if he didn't have faith in her ability to keep them running and flourishing, if things have gone that pear shaped in only six years then it's one hell of a job of mismanagement! -
The most important question to ask the 'Puel in' crowd is, can you honestly say that you saw any improvement in the playing style or tactics in the last three months of the season to offer any optimism that Puel & his coaches learnt anything or attempted to be more expansive & brave in the team's play? I know I didn't! For those last three months the team didn't have the fixture congestion to deal with (which is according to you guys, Puels excuse for everything) and yet there was no improvement in the team's style & quite the opposite occurred, we saw the team play even more pitifully, especially against the big team's. That is not who Saints are historically, when a big team appears in our sights we attack, take the fight to them & knock them out of their stride. Under Puel though, we knew who our betters were & 'doffed' our cap in deference to them, letting them walk away with points without having to break sweat!

Saints Transfers Thread - Deadline Day
SFKA South Woodford replied to Saint Charlie's topic in The Saints
You are right in that we aren't Ryan's friends, but he does know two of our group from spending time with them at the last two players awards, the masks are Ryan masks that one of the guys got made and can be seen being worn by Ryan in the club's lap of appreciation footage on Facebook. To be honest he didn't give away any secrets or revelations when he came over, just appreciated the effort we had made for him as we all give both him & Cedric a lot of personal encouragement each match especially the guy who got the masks made, who is always shouting encouragement to him every time he comes near him. -
One of the major problems I have with Puel is setting the team up not to lose against teams where we have playing staff who are of a superior quality to those in the opposition team. Hapoel was bad enough with what was at stake, but Watford at home in the first game of the season when you should be trying to get early points & wins on the board was ridiculous! Coming off the back of one of the club's best ever seasons and the strong performances which ended it, was a chance to steady a boat which was gently rocking after a turbulent summer against one of the 'weaker' teams in our league. Starting with a weakened team and then playing negatively set the tone for a limp performance against a team reduced to ten men for the last twenty minutes of the game, which was then repeated against a very poor Sunderland two weeks later. Giving us two points from two of our most 'winnable' home games of the season. He should have used those 2 games to pick up maximum points using the same style of play as the players were used to, not use them to experiment with his 'Style' resulting in games that had to be 'saved' to even get a point. As for constantly telling the fans he was happy with the squad despite all of us knowing it was deficient in key areas in not one but two transfer windows, says it all about his naivety!
-
With the bad feeling between Les & Koeman, I would bet that the only way he will end up at Everton is if they offer by far and away the largest amount for him. That would be a good few million more than the 'Eye watering' amount the article suggests and beyond their means!
-
Bielsa is available and Emery could well be too by the time the board decide to replace Clueless Puel. He has had the opportunity to improve his forward options in two transfer windows now and has said both times that he is happy with the options already at the club, he's a big boy, so if that isn't the case then the buck still stops with him for not having the balls to state that we need more forward options! Add that to the insipid displays, which he has said are down to the team playing the way he wants them too, the over rotation and the fact that players that we know are good players from previous seasons are becoming bad players under his direction and his fall outs with several of the squad and he has got to go!
-
Who are you talking about when you say 'dead wood'? Ward Prowse, Martina, Yoshida, Gardos? I'm sure Reed won't be giving him a large enough transfer kitty to replace all of those players with any that are better. As for buying players to suit his system 'no thanks' I'd rather watch paint dry, than have to keep watching the dross he's been serving up most weeks. Even when we've won games this season we've barely been able to perform for a complete half let alone an entire match & that is against some really bad opposition teams. Teams we would have beaten easily under Poch or Koeman. I'm not saying we don't need players, as I don't see boufal & Austin as replacements for Mane & Pelle & would love to see replacements to strengthen the team in that area, it will be tough to find and sign them, but there are players out there of the same style but with that raw and slightly untested ability that the black box likes. We have players that are suited to the high tempo pressing game and when they play that way for brief periods in games we've looked a much better team, it's Puels obsession with playing a slower more energy saving style that then overrides that pressing game which is causing us problems and is generating a feeling of disillusionment among the fans & players as evidenced by Fonte's spat with him at Bournemouth and VVD's comments after the Hapoel home game and people's comments on here. I realise that the league is stronger this season and that we are weaker but the first twenty minutes the other night & for periods against Chelsea, Liverpool, City & Utd the team has shown that they can compete against the top teams in this league if the manager would have faith in them to play the way they know they can. Still at least we can look forward to three games without Puels little pet Redmond in the team.
-
The simple fact is that players that we have all seen with our own eyes displaying a greater level of performance than they are at present, appear to be going, literally & metaphorically backwards under his leadership. He's taking good players and getting them to play so negatively, resulting in the ball going backwards & sideways at every opportunity, no one being brave on the ball and pushing forward, turning on the ball or playing an incisive pass and the level of expectation in the front players dropping to a point where they no longer try to 'make a run' These are players whom we know can do these things and aren't, to me & a lot of the saints fans I know that suggests that they are following Puels instructions and the only time they do look threatening is when they change things using their own initiative. The question which I have a nagging feeling about is whether there is a dressing room struggle between him & the players taking place? Can any of the resident ITK'ers answer that one?
-
Redmond was terrible on Thursday night, why beat someone then give the same person a second or third chance to get the ball off of you? His night was summed up for me in the first half when we got the ball back from one of their attacks and to him & were 2 on 2 with their defence, sims held his run perfectly, there was a 30 foot gap between their centre backs and he hit his 'through' ball straight at one of them. He needs time out of the team, as at the moment he's responsible for blunting a lot of our attacks and needs to discover how to be dangerous. Wonder if Rod Wallace is available to come & give him a bit of coaching? :-)

Arsenal 0-2 Saints - Reaction & Semi Final Draw
SFKA South Woodford replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
To stand any chance at Anfield we have to go out with a positive attacking attitude in the first leg, which means Claude has to change his mind set of just containing Liverpool which we saw a few weeks ago, and to go after them especially when they get tired late in the game. I can't see us managing a 0-0 in the first leg & then getting away goals at Anfield, especially as Klopp is obsessed with becoming their most loved manager and knows he needs to deliver them a trophy this season to start the process. So we have to make the first leg count, we will all have a part to play in that on the night, so let's get a great atmosphere going and give the turncoats in their team the abuse they deserve to wind them up! -
Adam Lallana such a lovely devoted husband & father. Must make his partner feel so good to know he's off salivating over other women, especially after he made her and their daughter move to the other end of the country. His little weasel beard suits his personality so well!
-
Wow would have thought they could find somewhere a little more classy than a best western, don't get me wrong it's nice there, but it's not exactly the level of 5 star comfort footballers would expect. Most of our players houses will be more luxurious than Chilworth Manor. Still, it will have been easy for Benali to do a little spying on them for the club! Do any of the current players live up on Chilworth Avenue?
-
We don't need to purchase another dm, Harrison Reed has already proved himself to be a more than adequate option there. Had Koeman not had such a downer on the youth players at Saints, Reed would be a first teamed by now. It's criminal that Ward Prowse presently gets into the matching squad ahead of him! He's going to be one he'll of a player when he gets a sustained run in the side & a manager whom believes in him!

Exactly, FIFA have been using that as justification for awarding the world cup to countries with terrible human rights records for years. Their explanation is that sport can be the catalyst for change not that they awarded it to the country that paid the most in bribes to it's members & they overlook the publicity that those oppressive regimes get from hosting the biggest sporting competition on the planet, seeing it as FIFA condoning their vision and practices. If they really want it to be a catalyst for change then they should put in place checks that ensure change is happening and if it is not, they withdraw it & award it to a backup country instead.
