JPT final or beating the skates?
SFKA South Woodford replied to saints_is_the_south's topic in The Saints
I'll settle for beating the skates and getting a 0-0 draw with the Dons on the 9th. -
I posted this on the transfer thread about Lisbie yesterday. His pace and strength were the only things that stopped us overwhelming Colchester at St Marys, which cost us the win, especially when Izzet had been sent off. I remember him winning the ball off of one of our players just outside their penalty area during the game, and laying it off to the keeper and then bombing off down the wing to receive the ball from the goalkeepers kick deep in our half, all within a few seconds. He was a thorn in our side that day and came closest to scoring on either team with that great shot from the angle which hit Kelvin's crossbar. With the better service he'll get here, I think he'll score at a better rate for us, but he woud also not only be a good foil for Rickie but in my view has the strength to play Rickie's role when needed, and could work well with both Connolly and Papa. He is also available to play in the JPT as he didn't play in Colchesters JPT loss at Gillingham. I think he would make an excellent addition to our squad.

Just checked, Lisbie isn't cup tied for the JPT, so would be another reason to add him to our squad along with Danns and Stock to bolster our threadbare midfield. Now that this match is out of the way, will we see a signing today or tomorrow morning in time for the cup match on Saturday? -

I agree with both of those statements, and think he is just what we need to compliment Lambert, also think he would work well playing up front with Connolly and especially well with Papa. If even half of what we have heard about NC over the last few weeks is true, then Pardew's future could well be in the balance if the dip in the teams form continues for a few more games. It would appear that not only does NC not suffer fools gladly but he is also impatient. So regardless of whether we think AP and the players are doing a good enough job or not, having an impatient person as his boss is going to do him no favours, with little blips and dips being magnified. So it wouldn't surprise me if we had a new manager next season, unless we have a storming run from now to the end to this campaign. In my opinion NC's comment to the Charlton chairman earlier in the season was not rhetoric, I believe he will see it as a total failiure if we do not get to within a few points of the play offs at least.

Agree that we need an addition in the midfield, someone to play the killer pass ideally. Can't understand how you think we are sorted for front men though, we need back up for Rickie, and ideally a nippy goalscorer to play alongside him, as Connolly is picking up injuries as fast as Pompey are racking up interest charges. I believe Kevin Lisbie on loan at Colchester from Ipswich, would be ideal for us as he has the pace needed alongside Lambert but also has the strength to fill in for Rickie when needed.

Did anyone else on here watch Villareal vs Celta Vigo on sky last night? Celta beat a full strength Villareal with a team of youth players and reserves 1-0. The young Celta midfielder Iago Aspas stood out, he was constantly chasing down and not letting the Villareal players have anytime on the ball, he is pacy and tenacious looked quite strong and composed on the ball and has a decent goalscoring record of 5 goals in 21 appearences, could well be worth a look by Pardews scouts.

And don't forget that they were only so good after the war as with Montgomery being able to pull strings for them they managed to get some of the countries best players of the time to turn out for them whilst they were doing their national service. So you could take off a couple more years of them being above us, as they stole other teams best players rather put together their own side.

One of my friends is a Palace supporter and is gutted at losing Fonte to us, but said that Danns is lazy and is believing his own hype.
-
Jancker signed for a second division team in Germany yesterday, so I think we can safely count him out now. It was on the skysports infobar last night.
-
He's good but still suffers defensively when up against a fast winger. But as others have said at our level you cannot sign players that don't have a flaw in their game or they would be playing in the leagues above. We did really well to get Rickie and will do well to keep hold of him in the summer if we don't make the play offs this season, as his only weakness is his pace, and that's only a slight one until you reach the premier league. We coule really do with Barnard to allow AP to give Rickie a rest and a pacy striker to play alongside either of them. Then as we all know, we need at least one centre back preferably two and a decent right back and goalscoring midfielder.

Carsley maybe, but Savage is a dirty little b*stard, who always seems to con the ref and convince him that he has been fouled, rather than the one who has committed the foul and he's always trying to get people sent off. I wouldn't want him at Saints under any circumstances. I would like to see us go after Lisbie, he has pace and strength and would compliment Lambert and or Connolly perfectly. Would also like to see us go for David Norris from Ipswich, the goal scoring midfieilder which people are saying that we could do with.

Moments you like to remember whilst bored...
SFKA South Woodford replied to Crab Lungs's topic in The Saints
The three recent home wins over the skates stand out for me, they make the hurt of the 4-1 at their sh*tehole a little more bearable. I remember the pride I felt on leaving the Travel Inn on Northam road in 2003 and walking over Northam Bridge to see the Northam car park chock full of coaches and people waiting to board them, all dressed in yellow and blue, and looking back and seeing the length of the convoy of coaches as we were driving out of Le gods country, and all of the cars and mini busses full of Saints fans and with their horns beeping as we made our way towards cardiff, then finally that which I felt on seeing half the millenium stadium a mass of blue and yellow, and at the final whistle and the minutes afterwards, when we showed the world that even though our team of players had lost, we the fans had won for our actions and support of our team. -
After Saturday and the spirit and atmosphere of the occasion, I want to go tonight, but seeing as the game is only three and a half hours after my operation to have two wisdom teeth removed, I don't think i'll be in any fit state to attend. So please roar on the team for me and help them get the win which will make me feel a lot better.

Come on over to block 30 then, plenty of singing there. The ref and linesman were spanners on Saturday and got very little right, how they didn't spot the handball outside and then later the player dragging back Hammond in the box in the second half is beyond me. Thought Pardews comment about the ref telling him he had got the rules wrong about the handball caution, was quite funny. Papa was offside, but the linesman didn't flag him until after the Tranmere player had miskicked the ball in his direction, so play should have continued, as Papa didn't interfere with play whilst offside. Given how high a line Tranmere were playing I was quite surprised Pardew didn't get Antonio to stand on the half way line, so that once we were back in possession we had an instant outlet and we could of been more dangerous on the counter.

Three asists for our Jake today in Torquay's win over Darlington, hope he does it for us when he returns.

I hear that there may be a management position at Queens Park, if that's any good to you!
-
Does Nic Cortese saying that they will be the best in the division, mean that they will be upgraded again for the championship and then the premiership, as other clubs in the championship will still have better facilities, or is it possible that Staplewood will be sold or you wholly by the academy and the senior players get a new training ground elsewhere, afterall there are plenty of sites around the city that could be developed into a new 'state of the art' home for them.
-
Where's the swimming pool? I heard that a lot of big clubs were incorporating these in their training facilities now for Hydro therapy purposes. For example, Spurs only built a new training facility in Chigwell about 7 years ago and are now building another one in Enfield which incorporates a swimming pool. See below for details. New Tottenham Hotspur Training Centre at Bulls Cross, Enfield. A few facts: Cost - £30 million. 11 outdoor grass pitches (1 floodlit). 1 outdoor articifial pitch, floodlit. 1 indoor artificial pitch. Various other outdoor training areas, including dedicated goalkeeping areas. Hydrotherapy pool; swimming pool; medical and physio rooms; gyms; media centre; admin offices; changing rooms; dining rooms; lounges; classrooms for academy and schoolboy players. Building footprint - 7738 sq metres. Total size of site - approx 60 acres. To see images of what it looks like, they apparently have a special area on their website.

I'd still like to see us buy Lisbie from Colchester, strong and has pace so could be back up for Lambert or play with him as the pacy striker alongside him.
-
If that's the case, doesn't it fall on the linesman to make a quick calculation of where he would of been when the ball was played, rather than where he is when it enters his field of vision a few moments later and then make the judgement? Henry was often given the benefit of the doubt by linesmen when he was at Arsenal. You cannot argue that he hasn't made a lot of positive contributions to the performance of our team, his goal and assists in the last two games alone are proof of that, then add in some great tracking back and winning back of possession and he more than makes up for a few offsides in my opinion. I hope we sign him permanantly, as I think he has the class to play not just in the Championship, but possibly also the Premier League with a decent midfield playmaker to supply him with the early balls he needs to show his true worth.
-
By that mark, you can also say that if you sets your sights low, your aiming for failure! We are a big fish in a small pond and we need the team to project an aura of that, so that other teams respect that, and fear the team we have out on the pitch. I agree we don't have an automatic right to win just because of where we have come from, but we should be winning the majority of our games convincingly, with the 1st team we have for this division, which will then breed that fear in the oppo's, fear that comes from our teams ability and graft. I expect this to be the case after Pardews January transfer dealings, we have to have that winning mentality before the end of this season, especially if we are looking for at least an automatic promotion place at the end of next season. The bonus will be, if that winning mentality and fear that it breeds, leads us to promotion this season rather than next. As for not filling the ground, that will change in the new year if we get that winning mentality, and once the economy recovers some stabiity and people are not either in fear of losing their jobs, or have the fear of spending money on a luxury item like going to footie rather than keeping it just in case.

Is Lambert the top scorer in the country? (league)
SFKA South Woodford replied to Andyb1's topic in The Saints
Nope he has 13 league goals (12 for Saints and 1 for Rovers) 1 at Huddersfield 1 at Stockport 2 Vs Yeovil 1 Vs Rovers 1 Vs Gills 1 at Oldham 1 Vs MK Dons 2 at Orient 1 Vs Brighton 1 at Hartlepool An his 1 For Rovers against Orient. -
Beg to differ with you Nineteen, we do have cover, but it is not of sufficent quality, we cannot afford to play reserve players in either of those matches if we want to progress, progression will bring a greater financial reward than a mid table position in League 1, so the club will be eager to go as far as possible in the FA Cup. Pardew has said on many occasions this season that his target from Liebherr and Cortese is success, his easiest route to achieving this, is to win the JPT, it is at least a piece of silverware even if it doesn't mean much to many teams, it's something to put in that trophy cabinet that Cortese and Liebherr don't like looking at currently. Also have a differing opinion with you on team building, it stands to reason that in order to have much of a shot at promotion next season, we have to be winning the vast majority of our matches through the tail end of this season, form which will then be carried forward into next season, when we will need to batter our opposition into submission and be so overwhelming that teams already have a feeling of defeat, even before they play us. We cannot show any weakness to be exploited if we want to be a good bet for promotion, and remember if we are not near the top of the table and in good form by next Christmas, then Liebherr and Cortese's five year plan will be in danger of derailment, with another season of League one football on the cards. To this end Pardew will need to make additions in January to improve our squad and it's strength in depth in all departments including a more dominant goalkeeper, pacy front and wide players and another Lambert type to win and hold the ball, as if he is injured or off form then we have no one to do the job he usually does so well. The sooner he makes a start on this the better, as if we had players that were any good outside of the first team, then other teams would be lining up to get them on loan, and not leaving us with the pile of dead wood we currently have.

I must admit that I didn't have the best view from the kingsland, but I could have sworn that no one touched the ball between Hoolahan taking his penalty and it hitting the post and him putting in the rebound. In which case the goal should not have stood.
