  1. Isn't Charlie on one of those every day?
  2. That game ranks very highly in my list of best experiences as a Saints fan, the Spurs fans thought they were going to beat us easily when they went ahead, only for Davo to p*ss on their chips. What a feeling coming out of WHL that day knowing that we had all but guaranteed ourselves European football the following season as well! Wednesday night will be a totally different situation with Harry Kane bagging himself a good haul after Hoedt just lets him past while looking for his guide dog and Maya backpasses straight to him in an easy win for Spurs!
  3. About their reputations as top flight footballers, let alone playing for Southampton fc and representing the city, as it certainly doesn't look like it? Week after week we get the same lacklustre performances from each of them followed by the same excuses and rallying call about how they will work hard in training to put it right along with how important it is for the fans to stick with them, only to then see exactly the same s*ite from each of them! How about they accept that it should be the opposite way around for once and they get told that they need to stick with the crowd and to then for each of them to deliver a half decent performance that will give them some pride to take home to their families after the match! Let's face it, they are stealing a living at the moment!
  4. We certainly didn't get a good deal for Mane, considering what Liverpool paid for Keita and Van Dijk and Mane's importance to our team. Liverpool got a bargain, especially when you see how much money we've had to spend, to bring in players who aren't even a quarter the player he was in a Saints shirt!
  5. If he wants to improve, I would suggest not listening to that bunch of mis-fires and to go his own way! He looks like he knows where the goal is and what to do when he gets there, the others could do with learning something from him, not the other way around.
  6. Southampton General would be flooded with heartache cases Sunday evening if that result came to pass!
  7. My four would be: Mane, Toby, Virgil & Rickie, although as has already been mentioned we are lacking that niggly bstard in the midfield that so upsets the opposition, so I might swap Virgil for big Vic or Marsdinho to give a bit of bite.
  8. In response to bobbyboy's question. Surely has to be Rickie, no pace but with the way he could strike a ball from any distance, I would still be confident of seeing the back of the net bulge, otherwise I'd go for Sadio!
  9. With Romeu having a mare again this season and Lemons only giving a cr@p when he feels like it, I'd rather Harrison stayed and played against Leicester. It would mean we only have to play one of the former, Reed is just the type of 'fly in the ear' player you need against an influential opposition midfielder & he spent the whole of last season in the same team as Maddison so should know his game inside out. Surely he's done enough in his previous appearances where he didn't look out of place replacing Morgan and Wanyama when called upon & not looking out of place there!
  10. 'Club he loves?' When did he join the Skates? Yes, he has ability, but the thing that is most frustrating about him is that he doesn't use it often enough. He is too safe with the ball, when he should be putting in a through ball for Gabbi to run onto, he stops and turns or passes sideways as soon as an opposition player faces him up, even if they aren't within 5 yards of him! As for his crossing, he can't seem to hit a decent cross on the run and never whips the ball round the back of the opposition defence. When he feels like it, he can battle his way into a game, but I guess that is because he thinks he can out muscle the opposition player he is up against, which isn't the case for most of the premier league midfielders he faces.
  11. Am not renewing mine but as i'm emmigrating to the other side of the world very soon, it was an easy decision to make. Although £800 to see Saints lift a cup at Wembley or the Premier League trophy at St Mary's would have made it worthwhile! :-)
  12. Having seen first hand at Arsenal and at home to Bournemouth which were just two examples, we would concede a lot less goals aerially if the other defenders didn't insist on leaving Cedric alone to guard the back post against players a good two feet taller than him!
  13. No away shirt on sale until the end of August, for one of the world's biggest sportswear companies with a full 12 months to design and manufacture the new seasons kits, surely that delay is inexcusable? Personally I would rather Saints had either stayed with Adidas or gone to one of the smaller manufacturers. I really don't like the designs of the American manufacturers. Best kits at the world cup are the Hummel Denmark kits and the Germany/Spain away shirts in my opinion!
  14. If you think things are bad amongst our fan base, you should of heard what the Watford fans were saying about their team on Saturday. They aren't happy bunnys and were basically sounding like a lot of our fan base at the moment in saying that they are already down. They said that since they picked up injuries to key players they have been rubbish with no fight and no idea, players picking up their pay whilst trying to engineer moves away. They're also not that happy about their new manager but also said Silva wasn't good either. So there is still hope for us yet, there have been signs of improvement in the team's play and even on Saturday the players showed enough to get the crowd behind them. We only need a couple of results and the pressure shifts over to the likes of them.
  15. Having seen his finishes for the under 18's I don't think he will have a confidence problem, he certainly knows how to finish when he is running with the ball. Considering Gabi did the same thing at the other end, it's a little unfair to concentrate on Oba. From what I've seen of him so far, he looks like he'll be a decent option off of the bench regularly for us. Would be great to see him and Long come off the bench late in a game against a tired defence. I just wish we had a manager who would take a chance like that, as I can't see Pellegrino being that adventurous.
  16. I hope the Liverpool fans don't plan on using that chant, they'll need the entire 90 minutes just to get through the list once!
  17. Yes he was, especially in the second half when we needed some urgency. He couldn't get the ball under control, almost let it run out of play when he was going up the line twice when under no pressure and constantly hesitated to cross the ball in. His crossing like Ward Prowse's is woeful, with both failing to get it beyond the first man almost every time!
  18. I know someone close to Sam & was told he was devastated & frustrated to be dropped from the squad altogether on Tuesday night after playing so well at Old Trafford on Saturday. He's had chances to leave on loan & permanently but is a Saints fan and wants to play for and build his reputation at Saints. Given how poor Pied was against Palace, dropping him was another big mistake by the manager!
  19. I don't want us to get relegated as I really don't think we would get anywhere near the Premier League again for a good few seasons just like the Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday's, Nottingham Forests & Coventrys have found. There are enough team's in the Championship that can give all but the most exceptional team's in the division a bloody nose, to wreck a promotion campaign & I don't see anyone in our squad who falls into the exceptional category. Can you imagine what would have happened the other night if we had been playing Millwall instead of Palace, with the lack of fight and work rate in our current side we would have been murdered! Btw, in the Championship we will need two centre backs who are proficient in the air, Stephens & Yoshida can't head their way out of a paper bag, Benteke won every header against them both the other night and had Zaha been playing off of him instead of sticking to the wing, Palace would have scored at least as many as Leicester did! The only positive are that we have some local boys in the squad who will fight for the shirt as they are Saints fans!
  20. After an admission like that Nick, you have some pair to lecture the rest of us that sat through every turgid home display last season about Puels fantastic style of play. Even the games that we did win at St Mary's under your man crush Puel, were complete bore fests, Boro & Swansea being cases in point! He took players which had been playing at the top of their game the season before and demoralised them to a point where they looked a shadow of their former selves, he constantly tinkered with the team, he took ages to work out who the best players in the squad were, he set up the team to be ultra defensive against teams that we should have attacked from the kick off & he failed to identify that we needed to replace Pelle & Mane until the January transfer window. Oh and I almost forgot that cracker about Redmond being the next Thierry Henry! Leicester are lucky in that they have players that he knows he has to play every week who by their nature are more work rate than finesse, who will put a performance in, in spite of him not because of him. I'll be interested to see if those Leicester fans will still be gleefully singing his name at the end of the season like they did at St Mary's the other week if they keep losing to team's that they should be beating!
  21. Indeed, he doesn't have to beat the same player 3 times 95% of the time. Boufal has played some great 1/2's in matches and also made some excellent 1st time passes since joining but his incessant need to beat the same man over & over again needs to be addressed by the coaching staff. He also, like Redmond needs some coaching around when to cut inside and when to go outside the man & to practice their crossing on the run.
  22. To be fair he has started to look like his old self in some games right up until Pellegrino tells him to stay back and we start allowing the opposition to dominate the ball, you can visibly see all of the excitement to be playing again and the passion to drive the team forward drain out of him then. I don't blame him for an at times lifeless performance in a lifeless team where it's hard to see if any of them even have a pulse at times! The management at all levels in the club should be able to see this every week and be doing something to fix it. I don't think Virgil is to blame for souring the team spirit, that is more to do with the fact that certain players get in the starting 11 every week regardless of their previous performances. I can only imagine how pee'd off those on the fringes are at being overlooked every week. That is what is causing the real friction in the squad!
  23. A couple of seasons ago I paid €10 to go and see Sporting Lisbon vs Braga. I had a great seat high up in the stand at the side of the pitch, half way between the half way line and penalty area and saw Sporting win 4-2. An absolute steal at that price. Although there was rather a lot of second hand smoke to deal with, as they haven't banned smoking in the stadiums in Portugal yet. Lisbon is a great city too, especially when it was November & the temperature was still @20 degrees!
  24. I have the following Saints videos for sale: End of season reviews (all the goals) 1988/89 1989/90 1990/91 1992/93 1997/98 1998/99 1999/00 2000/01 I also have the following other Saints/saints related videos for sale: Matt Le Tissier unbelievable Your move (Saints official video of leaving the Dell) The Saints millennium video Spirit of Southampton (The premiership years) Southampton The golden goals Make me an offer, would rather they went to a saints fan before I have to dispose of them on eBay. No sensible offers will be declined.
  25. I'm not against Redmond, I just thought his performance on Sunday was the worst I'd seen from a substitute since Ali Dia! I can see that he could be a danger to the opposition if he would try mixing things up a bit instead of always doing the same things over and over again. Case in point on Sunday was when he had the full back facing him up with his feet planted waiting for Nathan to come inside & he went inside straight into the player who scooped the ball away from him. Then two minutes later exactly the same situation occurred. On both occasions he would have been free if he had gone outside the full back instead as the player was committed. There was one guy behind me in the crowd who was apoplectic with Redmonds performance and kept calling him a lazy sh*t. A sentiment that was shared by many when he just stood watching as we tried to attack several times. Was he having a sulk about being dropped or something, because his attitude stank when he got on the pitch?
