I think that is likely, they were quite happy tossing it off on Martin’s easy street, all they had to do was religiously follow instructions for ball possession, not worry about the results, enjoy their days off, whilst becoming millionaires and with the odd cuddle thrown in here and there for good measure. I think your options are less plausible, especially recently when Downes was injured and Frenandes suspended. He has a bad reputation for causing trouble. I heard it said on the TSP recently he wasn’t allowed to train with Newcastles first team.

I didn’t think the club necessarily think that, now Martin has gone, right now Ivan is having a good look at what he has, he hasn’t seen much of Smallbone, now he has probably seen enough. I think it’s a good approach, give everyone a chance, wipe the slate clean, see what we need and who we don’t need and reset. I do wonder why he prefers Armstrong to Archer, but he did give a bit of a clue in his interview this week, reading between the lines he’s either physically or mentally not in the right place, or both.
