I sense the hand of Lowe behind this "Southampton United" spin and, to be quite honest, that makes me rather more cynical. There is one person at SFC that has been the catalyst for the division that afflicts the supporters but he seems to be in hiding at the moment although his luvvies are doing their bit. I respect TT's views even if he makes my blood boil on so many Saturday tea times. I've no problem with getting behind the team during the game but that's been the way of things virtually all season. However, if this is an attempt to gloss over the mistakes of the divisive clowns in the boardroom then my reaction would be along the lines of "sod off".

Looking to the past and basking in a warm glow of happy memories is surely something well do. I know I like nothing better than to chew over good old days when down the pub so why not the same on a message board. It certainly takes the mind of the seemingly pointless rage at our powerlessness to affect current events, be they to do with Saints, bankers or those scoundrels that like to call themselves politicians. And there's another thing. It's all very well looking to the future but to do so while ignoring events of the past is to go blindly forward.

Almost a strange religious fervour on this thread which I find a little unsettling because it chimes with my usual growing optimism before the game starts. Smiling eyes raised to the sky regardless of prevailing circumstances turns me off a little so I hope you don't mind if stay outside of this sect, especially since I'll probably be having to drown the usual sorrows tonight. I'll go my own way with a borrowed bus ad along the lines of: There probably is a Rupert Lowe so keep worrying while trying to enjoy life with Saints.

Plan A was still surprising the opposition. Plan A has now been well and truly sussed out by the opposition. There is no Plan B.

We shouldn't be looking for anything other than 3 wins from these games but I suspect Jan's plan will be to not lose by too many in each case and maybe, with a bit of luck, scrape a victory somewhere. Trouble is we're not scoring enough so the prospect of getting 3 points in any of these important games is remote. Maybe if I put my optimistic hat on I can see a result at Barnsley and consequent renewed hope of turning the corner from the Lowe brigade before yet another home defeat and an away embarrassment bring back the dawning reality of being marooned at the bottom. I fear for the souls of our youngsters this season. They'll need long term counselling if they're not to be badly broken as things go from bad to worse.

Interesting to hear other people talk about Southampton, the place where I was born and brought up until I left in my early 20s some 30 years ago. I still hanker after returning to the place having lived in a number of other places during my time away but as each year goes by I become less sure about it. Yeah, there's the sea, the Forest, the Saints and so on but whenever I go back I just see the place as one big traffic jam. Car City is what I call it with a crap bus company too. Somehow it feels a little less like home than it used to. Of course I blame Lowe for that (mostly).

I wouldn't get too excited over that point. First half was pretty poor stuff from both sides and only the rattling of Reading's bar really made me think we might have any chance of scoring. Second half a bit brighter after some of the Christmas pud seemed to have been worked off and enjoyed the opening goal. Of course that simply woke the Royals up and then it was panic stations in Saints defence. I see we still can't defend set pieces and, to be honest, I reckoned nil points was the more likely outcome after Saints sloppily conceded again. Suppose I should be happy with the point but, unless we start to score some bloody goals at St. Mary's, we'll be stuffed by Easter. Happy New Year, when it comes.

Reading will not stand off and watch like they did at the Mad Stad. I expect our pretty passing to be under pressure from the off and "the boys" will find it hard to get forward. There might be the chance of a late consolation though as the Royals take the foot off the gas. The Boys 1 - 4 The Men.

What is it with some people that seem to get some strange enjoyment by twisting something innocuous into a slight that they have to feel outraged by? There's some pretty high horses under the likes of Ponty and DPS tonight by the look of it. Or are they "Lowe" horses? Jeez!
