100% agree that at 2.25pm saturday will be the biggest moment of the season......... as Lambert completes another hat trick to complete a brilliant 4-0 win.
-
I have just said in another post on here...be excited about saturday not nervous, we can have a hell of a party in front of the whole nation, we need to be thinking NOISE NOT NERVES!!!
-
The fact of the matter is that Saturday can be a hell of a party and in front of the whole nation. If you are going to be the slightest bit nervous then i suggest you sell you tickets to someone else who isn't going to be nervous lol. The LAST thing our players need is to pick up on a nervous crowd. What we need is volume and plenty of it! This really can be a special day and that is perhaps how fans should approach it. Be excited about it NOT nervous. COYR

A calender of 1984. The 28th was indeed a saturday. well done Turkish. http://www.calendarwerks.com/calendars/1984/yearly/all

I was 18 at the time and i was one of the 16.000 at this game but i very nearly didn't go. it was a last minute decision as my mate who i used to go with fell ill on the saturday morning of the game. Anyhow, i decided to go on my own and i am glad i did! The game was 0-0 untill Dave Armstrong headed us in front on the half hour, we looked as if we could score at will from then on and it could've been 14-2!!! Funnily enough Coventry's goals were the best goals, both 25 yarders as i recall. Danny wallace scored 3. Steve Moran scored 3 with Frank Worthington and Spud Armstrong scoring the others. The following home game saw Saints beat Spurs 5-0!!!

If we get promoted will we have bus tour around city?
CLOTH EARS replied to Roger's topic in The Saints
I don't think we should do a bus tour around the whole city for promotion, when we win the FA Cup, Premier League title or Champions League then fair enough, the whole city would be good (-: I reckon an open top bus around the city centre would suffice ie starting at St Mary's along New Road with a diversion through the parks and up past yates's then left and then right towards the Guildhall a couple of speeches on the Guildhall steps would be ok. The council could possibly lay on other attractions to make it a special evening or day, hopefully loads of fans of all ages would turn up, lets hope whenever it is that the weather is good and not like it has been the last week!!! -
I am taking for granted that West Ham will win and we'll need to beat Coventry on saturday. We shouldn't rely on other clubs to get us out of jail, we have to do it ourselves.

I remember the day of the great escape win over Everton in 99' like it was yesterday! The celebrations after the win was something special. We went back to the Giddy Bridge after the game and it was packed both inside out out the front of the pub, loads of singing and beeping horns from cars who came along London Road. We stayed in there for hours after the game and i don't mind telling you that i was as hoarse as f--k and totally ******ed by the end of the day! Next weekend will be a special day just like that day in 99'. BRING IT ON!!! -
FFS What are you lot like ??? Calm down! All WILL be well !!!

Anyone Going Tomorrow At The Last 2 Top Flight Promotions?
CLOTH EARS replied to View From The Top's topic in The Saints
I went to Luton in 78, this was the 3rd last game, Orient was the following Wednesday. We took over 2 1/2 stands at Luton, i'd estimate we took 12000-14000 that day and it was brilliant! I never went to Orient as i was only 12 and the people who i usually went wiv were not going but we took over 3/4 of Brisbane Road that day from what i gather. -
Benny Hill was a comic genious!

I remember all those who said that a 32.000 stadium would be to big and we'd never fill it...and we did!!!( that lot along the coast were also saying it ), We filled St Marys nigh on everyweek between 2001 & 2005. IF the club are showing genuine ambition then new fans will be attracted to fill the extra space. Someone on this thread commented that we'd need to charge quids for kids to fill an expanded stadium, i think that is a little OTT, there does have to be a balance somehow between a pricing policy that works and ambition on the field. I think we all know that next season ( if we go up ) you will not get much change out of £40 for 1st team home games if you buy on a match to match basis, but in a couple of years in a 45000 stadium could could offer a discount for loyalty scheme of some sort, especialy for ST holders but we Can offer discounts to new fans too to entice them from their armchairs. It can be done where the club raise a decent revenue and the supporters feel as if they are getting something also. Imagination is what is needed.
-
I have always been of the view that IF Saints showed some real ambition in the Premier League then we'd attract crowds of over 45.000. This is doable. I know some of you will think this to be OTT but i am 100% CONVINCED of this. This club has alot of support over a wide area and i think we should start work on turning armchair Saints fans into regular attendees, but only once we have confirmed that there will be a stadium expansion programme. I think we will fill St Marys every week anyhow in our 1st season with the 32.000 capacity. I am going off on a bit of a tangent here but ONCE WE HAVE EXPANDED THE CAPACITY maybe offer new (armchair) supporters a 3 yr season ticket, but the 1st season will be at half price. Season tickets for current season ticket holders could also get a special deal, perhaps offer 3 yr season tickets with the 1st season season at a 75% discount, perhaps we could offer ST holders of 5 years or over the 1st season free? These are the sort of initiatives that 'may' get more new bums on seats and keep exsisting ST holders happy? Those who cannot afford a 3 yr season ticket could still buy a one yr ST at the normal price? Obviously we could re introduce a membership scheme for those who can only afford a limited number of matches. With regards the ambition of the club, apart from 2002/3 we were a bottom half Premier League side, by and large we were closer to the relegation trap door than we were to European qualification. The difference this time is that we have a pretty ambitious chairman and possibly the cash to 'have a go'. If we do secure promotion i think the 1st season will be about striking a balance between not putting the club in a risky financial state and keeping the club up. If we secure a 2nd season then i think we would show even more ambition be it in the transfer market and expanding the stadium and for every year that we are in the Premier League we will be able to build a more solid financial base. Now aswell as the TV Money, gate revenues will be crucial to build this base so the expansion of St Mary's will almost certainly become a major part of the big plan. There really could be some exciting times ahead for Saints IF we stay up in our 1st season. I feel more confident that these sort of things will actually happen with the current ownership.
-
I went to Ashton gate to see us beat Bristol City 2-1 in an earlier round. I 'think' David Lee scored one ( He was Rodney Wallaces replacement and he was ****e ) and i think Matt Le Tiss scored the other. I remember us winning 1-0 at Plymouth aswell or was that the season before?
