I was talking to a 'well known' Ex Saint back in May and i asked him what he thought we needed for this coming season and he said that we'd need a right back ( we have since bought in Clyne ) he said that he was concerned about Hoiveld and Fonte, he felt that the forwards in the PL are far superior to those in the championship and he felt that they would both be 'found out' at this level. He also said that De Ridder would never be a Prem player so we need to get someone in with pace and 'genuine' quality for the wide positions. He also said that we needed an attacking midfielder who would score 10 goals a season. My view is that without further additions we will probably struggle to stay up. Lets be honest we will get a tonking or two but as long as we don't allow ourselves to be dragged down by pessimism we can still be a PL side come May. Without stating the obvious the more 'quality' signings we make the better our chances of avoiding a season of struggle. We have worked hard to get where we are so lets kick on and become an established PL club with higher expectations than finishing 17th every season.

We are the famous Southampton and we're in the Movie

In Carnation street back in the early 1980's a family ( who's name i forget ) were moving to Southampton from the street, i always remember the father of the family saying 'We're off to see the Saints!' -
As people have said the Kevin Keegan signing just blew their minds, it did mine! ALL football fans of he time were majorly stunned when we pulled that one off. It is definately one of those where were you when you found out moments. I was at School when a girl who i knew said that Saints had signed Keegan. I genuinely laughed and said something along the lines of ' I aint buying that ' Anyway, on the way home from school another nipper said to me 'hey saints have signed Keegan', I still didn't buy it as i assumed it had originated from the same rediculous rumour. Its only when i got to the bottom of my road when i saw a woman i knew stood on her doorstep and she shouted out at the top oh her voice 'What do you think about Keegan signing?' That was it i run like an olympic sprinter the remaining 300 yards to my house. When i got in mum had the radio and TV on and the Keegan thing was being talked about on the radio when i got in the door also when all the news bulletins came on the radio they led with the 'Saints sign Keegan story' The evening news on TV led with it as 'THE MAIN STORY' it was quite incredible really. I was so excited as a 14 year old i couldn't function correctly for days i was mesmorised but many thousands more were the same. The only thing that would get close now would be if Saints signed Messi.

I have to say that if we pull this off then that'd be brilliant, he looks quality!

I hate to say this but i fear this is just the tip of the iceberg. We remember the Grobelaar stuff back in 94 and that opened a few peoples eyes to what 'could' go on in pro football. What you say about the above games in 2004/5 is what many others were thinking, i remember conversations with people about that villa game in particular and the Everton home game when we surrendered the ball with time almost up leading to a last minute Everton equaliser! I hate to say this this but a display by one of our players in a game last season had all sorts of thoughts going through my mind. I am sure some of you will know who and what game i refer to. I will not go public on here with it though. I have seen stuff happen in other non saints games over the years that raised question marks also. ANY player or ex player found to be guilty of fixing matches or even spot fixing should be banned from football for good and chucked in jail. Lets rid ourselves of the GREEDY BASTARDS!!!

The worst Saints kit EVER!!!

I watch Totton regularly. We have had some wonderful football to watch most of the time. There are some really good players in the Southern League, you'd be pleasantly surprised at the standard. Obviously the atmosphere isn't quite the same as St Mary's in terms of noise but there is a nice friendly atmosphere.

Wrong....... This will be the Saints 1st 10 games. excluding Carling cup. (-; A Swansea H Everton H QPR A Man City H Sunderland A Wigan A Stoke H Liverpool H Chelsea A Aston Villa

Actually i think you are right. My memory has deteriorated! The name of nineteen canteen was definately a controversial poster though, thats why his user name has stuck in my mind.
-
Nineteen Canteen was that bloke who allegedly was involved in tryng to take saints over about 5 years ago. He used to post on Saints forever with the same name but some clever bugger on SF found out who he was and outed him. His name was something like Tom McLoughlan or something simular. There will be someone on here who will remember him. This Tom Mcloughlan was an Evertonian if my memory serves me correct.

Stadium expansion??? Nah i doubt it in all honesty its pprobably the new kit launch.

I have the goal jingle on an old cassette from when Saints won 4-2 against Charlton on new years day 1990. Now finding the cassette could be the problem as i have it either buried in my shed under loads of junk ( bikes fishing gear and all bloody sorts! ) OR its up in my loft somewhere.

Who remembers this two legged tie? I have actually found the goals on Youtube for our home leg at the Dell We were trailing 2-0 from the 1st leg and we pulled it back to 2-2 at the Dell having had a goal disallowed in Belguim from Mick Channon and a goal disallowed in the tie here too. It was a Jim Steele slip that let in Van der Elst to put Anderlecht through. Anderlecht were one of the best teams in Europe in the 70's but it later on transpired that they had been bribing referees during this period.....i wonder if thats what happened over in Belgium as i remember people saying that there was nothing wrong with Channons goal?

I used to work on Town Depot for Southampton City Council. Most of the site is now going to be demolished as most of the departments have been moved elswhere. However, part of the site will be used by Southampton City Council for 2 more years i gather, so nothing will happen untill after then. The rumour was a couple of years back that a Ski dome was going to be built on the site encompassing the area leased by Travis Perkins and the businesses in Ryde terrace. A couple of things also to mention about Town depot. The land is contaminated so it has to remain disused for a period of time also there are some old brickworks under the site that date back to the 17th century so whether this has the potential to hold things up i do not know. There is also rumours of tunnels under the site that lead up to St Michaels church, this may or may not be true, i can't find them documented anywhere. The land also needs to be raised as it has flooded in the past whilst there has been high tides. Take all of these things into account and you will see that nothing will happen anytime soon (years). -
Another team going for back to back promotions today...

He FF what did you think of the referee? I thought he was shocking! He was drafted in late on as the ref from Bristol was stuck on the M4 due to it being closed. The pen should never have been given as the Oxford player handled the ball 1st and he was also 3 or 4 yards offside, that goal was crucial as it knocked Totton back and gave Oxford a spring in their step. The 4th goal shouldn't have been allowed either as there was a foul by Basham on Pettefer. As for the ref booking Sherborne for diving, well that was a joke he was sandwiched between two defenders and fouled and it should've been a pen. I don't think Totton were anywhere near their best but the referee was truelly appaling. What did you think of the pitch, it was under a bit of water when i arrived and the ref allowed it to start with puddles on it, it reminded me of the Hereford pitch when Ronnie Radford scored against Newcastle! Fit for a play off final on mmmmm. Anyway, it may sound like sour grapes but i will take some convincing that the ref didn't play a major part in Oxfords win. Great turn out from the Totton fans. -
Plastic Fans (Don't you just hate them?)
CLOTH EARS replied to Friday's Legacy's topic in The Saints
Pompey can laugh all they like ( they need something to make em chuckle ). In my previous job in 2008 i knew 4 ST holders at Fratton Park, One was a Liverpool fan, One was a Chelsea fan and one supported West Ham. The other supported Pompey for some odd reason. -
Its not you mate, this is happening for me also.

Maggie Thatcher was the anti christ.......Nicola Cortese is nothing of the sort, he may not suffer fools gladly but he knows how to unite fans of this club whereas Thatcher divided people end of. Anyway i apologise for talking politics. Lets talk Saints Saints and more Saints.

Fair play to Coventry. We know their pain. I hope for their sake that they get a decent bunch of investors or a single investor that will have honest intentions for them. As we know League One may be a new beggining for them and they 'may' come back stronger after being down there. They need to stay loyal and i am sure they will. I genuinely wish them all the best.

Markus Liebherr thankyou so so much for buying this wonderful football Club. I hope you were looking down yesteday enjoying the day as much as the fans at the game and many thousands more around our city. You and Nicola have restored this city to its Premier status and that is where it belongs and we are extremely gratefull for that. You have made dreams come true and you have put thousands and thousands of smiles on thousands and thousands of faces. God bless you, God bless your family and God bless Nicola.

Fair play buddy!

I think it'd be great to show unity with them. Obviously, the main thing is that we win the game, if we do get 3-0 up then join in and help em out! We can still party if we are promoted but we can also wish Coventry well. They will be back and hopefully we will meet in the Prem in a few years time.
