  1. Funnily enough, I was thinking the exact same thing after the weekend. I know that the playoffs are improbable, but I'd like to think that some of the traffic up ahead would be extremely concerned about the accelerating juggernaut that is Southampton FC. It's good to see Wilkins putting the same thing in the press.
  2. Had a listen to both 'casts yesterday. I listen to a lot of podcasts each week, and will definitely be picking this one up if you keep it going. Enjoyed the 2nd one much more than the first. Good to have three people in the mix, especially someone like Rob who's got a proper Sfampton accent!

    Tranmere Build-up

Just planning the trip now. Liverpool and Manx-based Saints fans will be in attendance. I have a lot of respect for the Tranmere fans. They could just have easily supported Liverpool or Everton. Indeed, most of the 'plassies' I've met do just that. Takes a special kind of "over-the-water" maniac to say, "y'know what? B*ll*cks to Liverpool and Everton. I'm supporting Tranmere instead" 3-1 to Saints, by the way.

  6. Crap pitch = crap excuse. Plenty of decent suggestions on this thread already on how to overcome that. Every other team in the League has to play on this crap. The main difference between us and them is that they tend to play on crap week-in, week-out. Looking forward to Tranmere. Third away game this year (and actually the easiest for me).
  7. Yes! Come on Saints. Let's get some more and send shivers through the playoff places. Yaargh! (pirate)
  8. Looks like it's a 360 week then.
  9. By all means come back and say told you so tomorrow night. Til then, there is hope. Cue sword-waving and never-say-die primal screams!!* * Til tomorrow night
  10. You're almost certainly right. I really do appreciate how far we've come and I wouldn't be disappointed with a good end to the season without making the playoffs. I'll have a bit of faith until it's mathematically certain though
  11. It's not just a must-win game. If we want any chance of reaching the playoffs, it has to come at the expense of 6th place Huddersfield, and we kind of need them to implode. On the plus side, we're playing them next and they have some tough opposition ahead of them. However, there are an awful lot of teams better placed to capitalise on a Huddersfield implosion than us. I'm hoping for a comprehensive victory for Saints, and a demoralising failure for Huddersfield.
  12. A definite +1 on the AP appreciation from me. Yes, the playoffs look unlikely - but we've come a long way in a short space of time. Comparisons with the Leeds situation aren't helpful. Regardless of their points tally, they fell short at the end. The man had no pre-season preparation, and even if he'd managed to snaffle all of his targets last summer, any change takes some time to embed. So far, he's looked almost faultless in the transfer market, has turned around the players he has inherited and has Saints fans disappointed when we /draw/ away from home. Continuity is a key factor in achieving success. I hope that AP gets to continue the fine, if sometimes frustrating, work he has achieved so far.
  13. I take no pleasure in seeing Portsmouth enter administration. Rivalry is one thing. Hatred is another. I don't care if some of their fans were joyous about our situation. 'Some' is the operative word here. There's no anti-moron requirement for supporting a football club. Also, it's a bit pitiful that even when we're playing teams in the far flung north, we're still letting the rivalry define what people sing. We hate Pompey? In Oldham? Please. Frankly, I couldn't give a toss what they're up to unless they're actually playing them. Rivalry is at home when the teams are competing, but the unhealthy obsession of anti-fans outside of that context.
  14. Sorry boys, cba to read whole thread. Sure someone has asked this before. Will Pompey catch the -10 next year if they're relegated through results?
  15. Come on Saints, you can beat this ...(insert appropriate faecal slang here)...
  16. Chris Coleman would say we're childish. He's a poohead, after all
  17. Blimey. All three signings in the starting eleven? Birruva risk* *Copyright Cilla Black school for football commentators
  18. Personally I think it's a damn good bit of business. Bought the club for a song, great prospects for a rise through the ranks, no stadium to build and a bloody big catchment area to capitalise on when we get there. In five years time, we'll be the only club on the south coast hosting the world's superstars of football. Good business.

    Lambert on 5Live

He's from Fazakerley, which sounds great when you hear a scouser saying it. If we sign Rooney we'll be scoused out. Proper boss, mate.
  20. Matt Le Tissier is a legend. Played his whole career at Saints, scored some of the best goals the PL has ever seen, instrumental in keeping us up and rightly regarded as a Premiership legend. But as other posters have pointed out, it's all too clear where this thread is headed. I didn't give a crap about the spread betting thing when announced, when it was on the "MLT to coach penalties" thread nor do I give a crap now, using "definition of a legend" as a springboard to define a legend before finally concluding that MLT doesn't match up (with a certain someone redefining "tit" as part of the process). MLT is a legend. Full stop.
  21. Spot on.
  22. It's definitely not the most affluent part of the UK. It is, however, definitely affluent enough to provide more fans than came down. It has some very nice areas. That said, I know tons of people who live on the Wirral ( or over the water, as the scousers say ). Very few of them are actually Tranmere fans.
  23. Couldn't do any harm. The England players can either listen or not, and we're no worse off. Personally, I think they should.
  24. Loving it. Been to two away games with the family. The missus is becoming a secret Saints fan. Lots of players who can score, a defence that is pretty solid bar the occasional drop in concentration. Good to see Bart getting a few games too.
  25. For anyone being negative today, there's a bloody good reason why we jumped so many places today and ended up top of the 22 point brigade. Goal difference. We've got better goal difference than anyone in this league up to, and including 6th - which is exactly where we need to be.
