  1. Again, numerous factors at play. They would probably have less children if they had :- a) better access to contraception and/or education b) less outright lies from the Church about condoms spreading AIDS c) the same level of confidence that we enjoy that their children will reach adulthood
  2. The greatest failure of humanity has been its inability to determine how resources are shared. Capitalism just isn't the answer. Nation states don't help. The focus needs to be on global problem solving, irrespective of cost. It is a travesty that millions of people die every year in third-world countries through starvation or easily preventible or curable diseases, and a damning indictment on Western societies that we can just sit back and ignore it.
  3. Yes, Andy and Richard - the pre-requisite for knowing the offside rule is the possession of a penis. I am glad someone was brave enough to point that out, and not just anyone. If a larger penis correlates with a better understanding of the offside rule, then we have the world's two foremost experts telling us like it is, particularly as they are two giant d*cks.

    English Language

One of Adrian Mole's New Year's resolutions was :- Genius.
  6. Only if they were honest about what the tax burden actually is.
  7. From the Armchair Anarchists Almanac, a great book by Mike Harding. Apologies if I've misremembered. The only phrase an Englishman needs to know in any language is :- "Do you speak English? No? Well, fetch me someone who does"
  8. The tax burden in this country is ridiculous. For most people, a third is gone without them ever seeing it. Then there is council tax, fuel duty, VAT, tobacco duty, road tax, etc. It wouldn't surprise me if the actual tax burden was well over 50%, and it wouldn't be so bad if we were spending the money on decent things. Instead, we spunk it on wars and bailing out banks and servicing debts, then tell our kids we can't afford to send them to Uni. Flat rate tax all the way.

    History

Portsmouth are statistically more successful than Saints. They are also play at a higher level than us. My advice to you? Have the row in a couple of years when you can at least point to our league position. That said, I genuinely believe we'd tonk them if we played them tomorrow.
  10. I'd like to keep the sash as long as nobody else has it. It's classy and distinct. Other teams have got stripes, and they're crap. It's not like our normal kit is the same as Barcelona's. Cortese speaks of wanting to develop a "Southampton style" that'll be acknowledged in the footballing world. I'm on-board with that. It'll be far easier to achieve if we stand out with distinct branding, far harder if we turn up to games dressed as Stoke. Like Matthew Le God says, the sash is part of Saints history. It's just not part of most living fans' history, until now, a season in which we're finally on the up and destroying teams. So next year, I'd rather us play in our promotion kit rather than an interpretation of the kit we got relegated in. Twice.
  11. Says who? Your argument is purely subjective, and contradicted by this poll. Plus, loads of big teams have changed their kit, often dramatically. Do you remember the 80s and 90s?
  12. Fair play to Howe. There isn't enough loyalty about these days, and he seemed genuinely torn during the interview he gave to Solent on Saturday. Hoping that both we and Bournemouth go up this year.
  13. I have a Blackberry for work and an iPhone for play. I got the iPhone 4 just before Christmas, and the Blackberry hasn't got a look-in since.

    Holloway

Apparently, he was less than impressed with Saints fans chanting "Premier League, you're having a laugh".
  15. How dismissive you are of our potential collective multilingual potential. I'm sure many of us know foreign swear words. Knowing how to tell a Frenchman to "f--k off" was an extra-curricular highlight of my secondary education.
  16. Your mum must be proud.

    Billy Bragg

I'm impressed with the way the village reacted. Britons take their privacy seriously, so sending a letter like that was never going to work.
  18. And brilliant! 知 道 The Chinese can insult us too! (although that's not a swearword - I copied and pasted the text from Baidu's homepage)
  19. De Puta Madre. Cabron. Cono. Those are three highly offensive Spanish words, mostly corresponding to "son of a b-t-h", b--t--d, and c--t'. If these phrases pass through undisturbed, does that mean that it's okay for Spaniards to come on here and insult us uncensored, while we fire back with our neutered blanks? What happens if we suddenly develop a beef with a Spanish team? Or worse still, a group of Spaniards become deranged and become Spanish Pompey fans? And it's not just Spain either. At the very least, anyone with a Western-based character set can come on here and call us c--ts, and there's nothing we can do about it. Yet another compelling argument for the removal of the swear ban
  20. Definitely. When I started building my DVD library, I thought "this is it - I can replace all those chunky VHS tapes". I'm not replacing my DVDs with Blurays. I'm past the point where I'm confident of digital downloads - I actually hate physical media. I'm getting rid of the lot of it. Hopefully, the next batch of games consoles will be network only too.
  21. So I'm well up for this, despite the fact that we were :- a) crap b) robbed in the corresponding fixture last year. Are the Irish contingent coming over again? Same time at O'Neills?
  22. Completely proved my point. I'm sure that carpetburger is perfectly offensive. (do they come with buns?)

    Ivory Coast

Weirdly enough, the traditional definition of fascism merely meant the merging of state and corporate interests into a unified Nationalist whole. It was eventually supplanted to become a synonym for Nazism, but that's how it started out. Nation states would do the things like corporations could not, such as wage war. Corporations would work in furtherance of those goals, and would provide services once the bullet-catchers had done their jobs. I am sure El Duce would be proud to see El dune suggesting that we continue this legacy. Of course, the decent thing to do would be to make the Africans a better deal. This is a capitalist world after all. The interesting part, funny if it were not so depressing, is that the companies who championed capitalism from the get-go are cash-strapped debtors, while the two big Communist countries hold not only our debts, but the means to price us out of vital resources in the future.
  24. So if, as a couple of people have mentioned, it's all about context - why the blanket ban on swearing? SaintsWeb rightly has a policy in place for racism and has moderators. Why must we make S****horpe a four star location?
  25. Indeed, and on the flip side, it's not impossible to be extremely offensive without cussing.
