  1. Jimmy Savile. That was September Saint, btw.
  2. I have no problem with you as author, Bear. I just don't want you wasting your time. Turks has been banned before and announced that he is never coming back. Has he really shuffled off the SaintsWeb coil? And if so, for what reason?
  3. Brilliant.
  4. Internet forums. They're a serious business. Let's be honest. If you post on here with any regularity, chances are we're all going to post some crapola once in a while. Sometimes, forum participants can go on a serious binge; we've seen it from time to time (arf!). In full knowledge that I may one day (perhaps today) be a subject of relevant discussion on this thread, let me waste no further time in introducing "Posters on the Edge", intended to be a humourous and constructive "intervention" thread aimed at any posters that may have accidentally typed "off the f**king reservation" into their Internet forum sat-nav. You see why I think I may be involved at some future junction This thread is for EMERGENCY PURPOSES ONLY*. I don't want to see it abused by frivolous claims or the resumption of residual rivalries**. I don't want the Bear sh!tting all over it with further accusations of Tokes batting habits***. It's just for putting out fires before they become conflagrations****. * No it isn't ** I'm probably okay with that *** It wouldn't be the same, plus Bear sh!t is smarter than your average sh!t. **** Wouldn't that be lovely?
  5. I've seen loads more of Gotham. Let's get this out of the way. This isn't a masterpiece of a show, but it is starting to show a lot of promise. I've been something of a Batman geek since the 1989 film, when I found out that Batman wasn't just the camp Adam West affair. Since then, I've read a lot of the comics, including some of the best graphic novels, so I've a fair bit of knowledge about the universe. Gotham is doing a decent job of putting it onto the screen. Many of the more famous characters have been introduced. This season is undoubtedly about Penguin's meandering ascendancy, but the Riddler has major screen time, and Harvey "Two Face" Dent looks like he could be interesting. Unlike a lot of other interpretations, where the scarring of half his face drives Dent to madness, he already looks to have a hint of madness pre-disfigurement. Sean Pertwee's Alfred has been given a bit of attention. He's as much bodyguard and protector as butler, which enables the young Bruce Wayne to get into considerably more peril than he otherwise might. I'm also warming to Jim Gordon, who initially seemed pretty bland despite being pitched as something as a crusading firebrand in a police department full of corruption. The actor who plays him was in The OC, apparently. The missus had much the same opinion of his slow-burning acting skills. Finally, I'd be doing the lads a disservice if I did not mention the ladies. Jada Pinkett Smith, aka Mrs Will Smith, plays one of the only characters that does not have its roots in the comic source material. Didn't really know where her character was going, but she's had a decent arc overall. Aged a lot, though. If you watched Gotham after watching Matrix Reloaded, you'd see a transition from "stunner" to "mama". The lovely Morena Baccarin also turns up in the tail end of the season too. Woof.
  6. Well, fun as it has been to deal with Sarnia's nightly emissions, how about some broader questions on the nation at hand. For starters, where do people think the US is going to become in the next 100 years?
  7. Arguably better than these constant calls to action that you issue here Internet forums are communities based on shared interest, not geographical vicinity. Therefore, I find these calls to arms a bit baffling. I don't really know how it goes on too many other forums, and this one is a little different in that it is implicitly tied to a local community. However, I would say that if you need pub chats to resolve Internet forum misunderstandings, you might be doing the Internet forum bit wrong.
  8. No, I willfully ignored further clarification in order to make the joke.
  9. Getting propa f**king nawty in 'ere. Junior Unbelievable Jeff, presumably
  10. You've both had your noses put out of joint by newly prolific posters, is my theory
  11. I don't mind Burnley, as it goes. It'll be a tricky fixture. They'll be fighting for their lives. Hopefully, they won't come here to park the bus. I think quality is going to be the only difference. Can't fault Burnley for heart. I'm going with the same attitude I had at the last game though. I'll be happy enough to see Saints score. One swallow doesn't make a summer, and we failed to score from open play against Chelsea.
  12. As others have said, the law presumes innocence until proven otherwise. The only reason not to name someone is because people don't think in the same way. It's not a problem with the law. It's a problem with people, and to a lesser extent the media, very good at reporting outrages but not so hot on the old exoneration front.

  14. Let's be honest, it was an utter joke when Qatar and Russia were chosen as host nations. The Russians at least do have a footballing history, and weren't asking to turn the footballing world upside down just to host the tournament. Did money change hands, or perhaps other deals done? Almost certainly, but that's what FIFA is all about these days. Hopefully, the Qatar thing will be a catalyst for some serious reform of FIFA. I don't like to see the precedent to be set, really. It'll give them ideas about disrupting the winter break on a more regular basis for international tournaments, something which might actually be a good idea if it wasn't for the bastards standing to profit. FIFA; a licence to print money and a law unto themselves.
  15. Jonnyboy is terse forum legend.

    Drink?

I'd only have been impressed if he'd been voiced by James Earl Jones. Road safety is an important concern for everyone, even Sith Lords.
  17. That's weird. My grandad worked as a mechanic for years in the area. The family Saturday involved going to Hamble Social Club. I always got the impression that Hamble was alright, but then I guess you have to live anywhere to really know it...
  18. SaintsWeb. Come for the football. Stay for the popularity advice from hypo.
  19. Is that what you reckon has happened? I agree with your general statement, but humility isn't something I lack. If I'd put myself 100% behind that Oxfam stat, you and trousers may have a point. Instead, I wrote a series of posts in which that stat was mentioned, qualified with the statement that I didn't know how true it was.
  20. It's right up there with "I love Thatcher, the paedo's princess". Hats off, trousers*. * and considerably more, if one of Thatcher's old mates is about.
  21. Never knew your devotion went this far, trousers. What she did on record was bad enough. What we know now is even worse. One Thatcher quote is unfortunate. Two more on top is f**king clueless. Just like Thatcher, you're willing to look the other way.
  22. Thatcher. The paedo's princess.
  23. Please. Keep regaling us with quotes from your political heroine. They mean so much. Why wouldn't we listen to a woman that had no problem with paedos in her government, and tried five times, against advice, to get Jimmy Savile knighted? (she succeeded in the end). See, the problem with this quote, and I suspect many others, is that its self-justifying tosh served up by an evil c**t, who as it goes, was so compromised herself that she was surrounded by child rapists and did nowt about it.
