The year is the reason your point falls down. No promise was broken on that pledge. If you believed Murdoch and co, the moronic British public were swayed by his rag of a newspaper. "Last one out, turn off the lights" followed by "It was the Sun wot won it". 1992 election pledge. Get me an advance on that or concede the point.
-
Bowling underarm, JackFrost? Very kind of you. First, the date on that quote would indicate that's a 1992 election pledge. As I recall, the British people did not elect a Labour government back then. If we had, politicians like Kinnock, Smith and Cook would have been leading the charge. And you know what, I think they would have attempted to cut off privatisation of the NHS at something close to source. Your implied charge of hypocrisy doesn't fit unless you can find me someone saying the same thing in the 1997 elections. That's a four, I reckon. Feel free to catch me out. Second, you're using the notoriously unprincipled Robin Cook as your poster child for Labour mendacity? That's a six, mush. No-one is catching that.

Fantastic points, very well made.

Also, KRG. Don't disagree with him much, but what with SaintAndy666 wasting his life in Oxbridge and shít, he is Young Poster of The Lounge atm.

If you're not an avid reader of SaintsWeb's simultaneously most popular and smalltime thread, the Pompey Takeover Saga, chances are you won't see Rallyboy in the wild. I'm always a little bit humbled when I appear on one of these lists, particularly when people give spot-on reasons for doing so. I always thought Kraks was a fair poster, even during some of our wilder discussions, so the approbation from that source is valued. For me, bletch is king in this court. His word is law, and he has a way of defusing things that is both reasonable and laugh out loud amusing. He's also one of the best writers on this site. I like the Bear a lot too; brilliantly honest and disarming in a different way, the constant reminder to not take stuff too seriously. Again, a top writer. Turks wearied me in the early days, and still does a little bit, but he does a fine job and he's magnanimous enough to acknowledge it when one of my tart quips actually turns out to be funny. Jonnyboy has a fine stock in trade with knee-cutting brevity. I'd be lying if I didn't say I didn't enjoy some of CB Fry's content, although I wouldn't put him in charge of club ambition or management selection Special mentions have to go out to trousers, temporarily blinded by the tribalism of the election season, but again, a bit of a heartbeat on this site, and is a humble enough fellow to concede a point. bridge too far for her frequent "trousers containment" (ooh, err, missus). buctootim for services rendered to remote medical diagnosis. Coxford Lou for being the girl who made many of the recent meetups happen, with her girliness and whatever. Goatboy is now one of my faves because of that (and his drinking ability). Saint_Armstrong and stevegrant for publicising my Twitter work to a wider audience St. Chalet for his trigger-finger moderation, and humourous retractions. All of the mods for turning a blind eye to the swear filter subversion, and boy, has it been subverted. VFTT, because even though he lay the nasty-hammer on people (including moi, yo), I reckon he's fair-minded overall and again, a humble chap when humility is called for. He just won't suffer fools when he feels it isn't. Ludwig for never suffering anyone Speaking of fairness, I reckon you deserve a mention on that front, whelk. Still not a fan of the Hector Salamanca avatar

Yes, I do. My tablets can emulate pretty much anything up to and including a PSX. Get an OTG cable and a PS3 controller and you should be golden. Range of games? Anything that was ever released for things your device can emulate. You don't need to buy a specific piece of hardware. You can download emulators for individual consoles.

"The biggest canard we have to fight is that the private sector is more efficient than the public sector". Source, my mate on FB, but also, anyone that works for the private sector, particularly above a certain company size.

90 minute interview with Owen Jones here. I like it. Brand in all his forms, really. Covers the not voting thing, accusations of ego, etc. Deftly handled, I reckon - and if there is one thing I'd take from this as overwhelmingly positive, it's the part where he suggests that people should continually seek the better angels of their nature and attempt to deal with others on that level. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JduqBw2jIbo. Not always easy, of course

Thanks, Kraken - although you're giving me far too much credit with this self-deprecation lark. It's merely the logical antidote to occasionally being an arsehole. Pure self interest.

The funny thing is that the EU can keep expanding without a treaty change. When countries have unified or absorbed in the past, there has traditionally been some kind of treaty marking the event. The EU can decide to expand without a treaty, and according to the terms of the Maastricht Treaty, no member state can reject expansion. That's a worrying development for any nation trying to manage provision for its citizens, and I think that the EU has been dangerously eager to expand. Not only have we provoked Russia, but we've also made a lot of ethnic Russians, some of them probably as p!ssed off as Putin, EU citizens with the right to live and work anywhere in the Union. Unthinkable thirty years ago, but obviously not a problem now

Top stuff, JB. You should get around George RR Martin's gaff and jolly him up a bit.
-
To be fair to you, you probably have, and I'm probably a wee bit incapable of taking it all in, but I certainly didn't detect this resigned air of "only following orders, guv" wafting from the posts of the day. You were using the Poles as a stick to beat supposedly feckless British workers with. Besides, it's too bloody delicious not to serve a few times. Eastern European Pokemon Trainer Lord D becomes fierce UKIP advocate. That's what they call a character arc.
-
The Labour vote is a good idea, Lord D, especially with people that are prone to sudden and complete changes of heart. I remember a few years ago when you used to extol the virtues of those plucky Eastern European people you employed, saying they were much better than English peeps and all that. Who is to say that you are not going to have another complete volte-face, and end up wanting to employ loads of immigrants again instead of sending them all back on the nearest Squeezyjet? Vote Labour for Lord D's inexplicably resurgent Eastern European Army! (of unskilled minimum wage workers).

Gutted. I crafted a beautifully logical post about how hypo was probably a glory-holer. Ah well, it's all ephemeral in the human scheme of things.

Lordy. You're still going there? I didn't address your point because I don't remember it happening at the LU party conference. The entire thing is up on the Internet, start to finish. You'll have to link the part where that was discussed, proposed and passed as a motion. I think you'll have a hard time, personally. I don't recall anything being discussed on the subject. The one motion we voted for that was even in that ballpark was whether we should (as a party) support arming the Kurds, voted down quite strenuously, as I recall. Produce the goods Verbal. Let's see the bit where LU was praising ISIS. Let's see the part where I say all UK voters are morons. We won't, of course, because you are a moronic liar.

Why has today's content been deleted? FFS, mods.

Well, it's good that you're finally admitting to be a purveyor of strawman slop. Your "simply assuming" has gotten you into a lot of trouble over the years. Simply assuming the worst is what you do. Let's take the way you've twisted my phrase "the moronic British public" into "UK voters are all 'morons'". Now presumably, if I'd said "the stoic British public" or "the heroic British public", I presumably wouldn't be providing you with (heh) "ammunition" for your frequent, unsolicited salvos (obsess, much?). Of course, the non-moronic element of the British public would know that in all cases, I'm referring to a general trait, rather than saying "all x are y". Everyone knows that despite our reputation as a stoic race, we've got a few that'll lose their shít. Same thing with heroic. We've had plenty of our compatriots, past and present, that have put their lives on the line. Plenty of chickenshíts too. Yourself included. So using that fairly reasonable treatment of how broad traits might not apply to the entire British public, let's examine the one about morons. We're an advanced nation, and we've obviously had some thinkers roll up over the ages, but at the same time, we live in a civilisation where people are easily led, mostly by fear of self-interest, and may end up moronically acting against their best interests. This election is a case in point. You're special. You're intelligent enough not to be moron, but have spent the past five years proving that you are one anyway. That is top work. I could make a bunch of simple assumptions about why that is, but that's really your gig. Never forget "Marshall Law"

When your parents spunked out for your education, did they ever imagine they were funding a third rate liar? And if the state paid, do you think that you could be the first legitimate use of retroactive tuition fees?

Yeah, people moan about media training and how it makes interviews bland. Nige is a barmy breath of bad-tempered fresh air.

What wasn't funny about leftish nosh? No one appreciates me. Cry, cry, etc

Friday afternoon here. This seems like the perfect thread to present such objections.
-
That image has actually been linked before in reference to me. Completely defused by my choice to "go public" and my attendance at Lou's various drinky-poos. Let's face it, the only reason this thread exists is because too many people love their anonymity too much. In some cases, that's legitimate. I'm sure Lou doesn't fancy being masturbation inspiration for the little nuggets that have clung to her arse like a turd. Hypo points to the Keith situation on SaintsForever whenever he is questioned about his anonymous status. Tim won't go public on here, even though he's fishing for a leftish nosh on Soulmates (hey ladies!). Verbal is flat out afraid of being associated with his words, and for some inexplicable reason, St. Chalet is scared of Verbal to the point where I'm under the threat of insta-ban if I ever name him "again", which I never did in the first place. Tim took a much more embarrassing situation on the chin. (Drum roll) Much respect.

I reckon Super Kelv will be super up for this one, going back to his old club. I know a couple of Sunderland fans that reckoned he "couldn't catch a cold". Motivation.

It's a conspiracy!
