And to link AQ with Iran is a fucking joke, Shia and Sunnis, working together, god, give me strength, surely even he knows that doesn’t happen.

This guy knows stuff as he wrote a brilliant book on travelling through the country. One of the best books I have read.

Right. That’s what happened last time the taliban took over the country? I’d agree that I think this time they will try and integrate into the international community more and I don’t necessarily buy into them harbouring terrorism again, though there will be factors there for sure. I think they’ve learnt a lesson from before and clearly their agenda won’t be to ostracise the country again to the extent that the US start carpet bombing them. But they will want and have control and unfortunately they will still implement their laws and their prejudices.

You don’t really believe that do you?

That’s just simply not true. The school bully is not popular but he’s still in control. The Hazara and the tajiks for example definitely don’t want the Taliban and even many Pashto. The Afghan people would much prefer to return to local rule by tribal leaders in their own sect. Hard to believe but in the 70’s Kabul was known as the Paris of the East, and the country was a frequent stopping point on the hippie trail from London to Delhi. But even back then the place was a tribal minefield but it was much more regionalised and fairly self governed. As I said previously, the Taliban rose from the ashes of the US leaving the country to rot after the Russians were deposed, ironic really.

And there you have it. The US and UK and NATO want to implement democracy, just like Syria, just like Iraq and yet that region does not need democracy, it needs stable leadership like Saddam Hussien for example, didn’t tolerate AQ, sure was a cunt to a lot of people but did the west have to worry too much about Iraq, not really until the bible bashing loonies of Blair and Bush decided he had a load of hidden weapons of mass destruction. Stable government in Afghanistan is an impossible task, it’s a country full of different states that have their own codes and languages and the word democracy makes me laugh, because it works in the west ( well, sort of) we should make sure those commies in Vietnam or Korea abide by it and now in the Middle East and Central Asia. If you have visited that region you’d know, it just don’t work like that there and the west invading and ruling ain’t going to change that. Eventually, these states will sort themselves out, they will do it themselves and drag them themselves into the 21st century, but that it a fair while off.

Let’s not forget why the Taliban were formed in Kandahar. Because the US left the country to the warlords after the Russians left. The crime and corruption was paramount to Mullah Omar rounding up a load of his mates and trying to restore law and order, in their own Islamist way of course. Ironically they were orginally a force for good but of course as always, power leads to contempt and it’s a shame that the Northern Alliance under Massoud were never given the backing to stabilise the country, though I doubt even that would have happened. Anyone surprised by any of this doesn’t understand the region and the tribal politics. We’re back to square one.

  11. Yeah this is spot on. Didn’t get the move he really wanted but was desperate to get out of a relegation fight, as you say, join a club trying to go somewhere
  12. Think we’ve all seen the answer to that in recent times
  13. People keep going on about polio and that affected you if you had it, obviously. But COVID adversely affects around 1%adversely so really don’t get the comparison.
  14. but your relatives have had the vaccine, so they won't die, right? If that is still a risk, then best they stay at home, beside, vaccinated people can still pass it on to other vaccinated people. So your point is a little lost really.
  15. and all the people last year because we so busy saving the elderly and the vulnerable and basically shutting everything else off.
  16. so this just last forever then, because we have to account for everyone that cannot take the vaccine?
  17. How does that work then? Everyone that really needs a vaccine has one, that was always the objective wasn’t it? So how do people then die. And yeah, I know that it’s not 100% but it pretty damn near to it. So not sure how those who object end up killing people?
  18. A hand in killing people, seriously? What an fuckwit thing to say.
  19. So, we signed a player from a club that finished lower than us in an inferior league?
