Bellend Alert! Bellend Alert.

I was also at Upton Park. Started to get an idea of the horror of the thing at about 6 p.m., and then it just got worse as the night went on. Like most fans, my thoughts were " there but the grace of god". Horrible day I will never forget.

The HBOS Collapse - Who was to blame?
Depressed of Shirley replied to trousers's topic in The Lounge
If you want to blame someone for the whole mess, then that blame needs to be shared between the people who decided to lend at any costs without checking whether there was a cat in hells chance of the loan being repaid, and the public money financed regualtory watchdog, set up to look out for, and stop, exactly these types of practices. The incentive for the bank bosses was to lend as much as possible, because that made the bank look more profitable, and the share price rise. Of course, after they had the bonuses, not only did the profit disappear from the balance sheet, but it was replaced by write offs that made them insolvent. Both parties were incompetent, and it annoys me that the relevant people at both the bank and the FSA just walk away into other highly paid jobs, when they should have been unemployable following this fiasco. -
The HBOS Collapse - Who was to blame?

Interesting that this report came out criticising the FSA, 4 days after it ceased to exist. No cover up here at all. -
2,076 posts and not one word I would agree with. keep going Barry.

And of course only P*****y allows you to buy another multi million pound house in Sandbanks, evade tax, and accept bungs...... Allegedly

All I mean is that lots of people on here are convinced that he will go to Chelsea as soon as they decide they want him, but it would have just made more sense not to agree to do anything, and then sign for Chelsea at age 18.
-
Why did Shaw agree to sign a contract at 18 if he wanted to go to Chelsea? He must know they were interested, and could have just waited until the summer and moved then. We could have done nothing apart from go to a Tribunal for his development costs. Instead he publicly committed to us, and has "promised" to sign in July for four years. The Mail may be right, but it just seems a bit strange to not wait if he wanted out.

There is a risk to investing in corporate bonds, which is not just to do with if the company goes bust. If you buy the bond at issue, say £1000 for a 10 year bond with a 7% yield, then all things being equal, you will get your 7% p.a. for 10 years, and at the end of the period, they give you back your £1000. Easy. However, if you buy a bond that is already in issue, i.e. half way through the ten year period, then the yield is different. You will still get 7% of £1000, but if the price you paid was £1050, then the actual yield is less ( 1000 x 7% = £70, but £70 on £1050 is a yield of 6.66% ) plus, although you paid £1050, you only get back £1000 at the end of ther ten year period. The price for existing bonds is dictated by many things, but the main damage to Corporate Bonds comes from inflation. If inflation rises, the yield looks less attractive. As yields rise, the price of the bonds in the market falls. This is on top of the possibility of the company going bust. Your IFA will porobably advise you to use a corporate bond fund, ie someone manages your money for you, buying and selling lots of corporate bonds on your behalf. This will take a lot of the stress out, and gives you a wide spread of different company bonds. However, the yield is not guaranteed, and the fund is not guaranteed to not lose money, its just that it should be lower risk than buying stocks and shares. I am an IFA by the way.

If you didn't have all those creditors to pay back then the answer is simple. However, as you lot always forget, the people you owe money to also have a say, and they might prefer the Keith and Orville package.

Cortese and Le Tissier arrange meeting
Depressed of Shirley replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
The thing is, I was very lucky to see MLT play for us, and was very lucky to see Markus and NC save the whole club. I am glad that MLT was playing and not running the thing, and equally happy NC is running the club, and not playing. MLT as a player will never be forgotten, but on this issue, I don't blame Cortese at all for not talking to him. The constant digs, without ever actually saying what the reasons are, make MLT look small and petty, and unless he really wants to come out and put in print what the reasons are, he will continue to look bad. All I want is for the club to be as successful as possible. If MLT was saying that NC was running the club into the ground, and the evidence was there to see it, then fine. But it just looks like a squabble between two personalities that has no potential upside for either of them. -
Now perhaps I am becoming too much of a conspiracy theorist, but does it strike anyone as strange that a company that runs the shops, that has no connection with the Football Club, has a trading name of a road that leads to Fortress Fatpipes? I mean, if they were called Station Road Retail I could believe it, but Frogmore? I am sure there is a link here, I just can't work out what it is. Nevermind, it just makes it even funnier as they continue their sprint to oblivion.

Many thanks for the past couple of seasons, and I hope you get the top job you deserve. Keep the faith, and keep being successful.

Villa 0 v Saints 1 post match chat & MotM
Depressed of Shirley replied to SOTONS EAST SIDE's topic in The Saints
Sorry to quote him, but how can anyone who didn't watch the game make the statements he does. Having watched virtually the whole game, we deserved a win, had chances that were as good as Villa's, and surprisingly came under a lot of pressure for the final 20 mins from a team that realised losing to us might do them permanent damage. We played very well for 70 mins, and defended too deep for 20. If you are going to moan about the performance, at least watch the game or the full highlights. -
This would seem reasonable, but its the club that are getting rid, not the players walking away. It looks, fantastically, that they are finally going to get flushed like the turd they are.

Actually, there were two big bang moments, the first one being when clubs stooped sharing gate receipts with the opposition for league games, and the second was Sky.

I think that Everton's financial results show just how hopeless it is for any side outside the current top 4 of Man U, Man C, Arsenal and Chelsea, to regularly play in the Champs League. The issue isn't about inward investment, it is about once you are in the CL, the difference in income over the rest of the Prem means you have to really cock it up to not be in year after year. Of the others, only Liverpool and Spurs have the potential, but each year they don't qualify and the others do, there is less chance of them making it the following year. The only potential light at the end of this depressing tunnel is the financial fair play rules, but even they will favour the current big 4 rather than anyone else. As for players, of course they want to play at the highest level, but the CL money means that those that aren't playing don't need to be sold to balance the books. The top 4 just go on collecting players on huge wages, and don't let them go. To compete with these salaries is just madness, as Leeds found out. I see no way that we or any other club in the Prem will be able to break the monopoly, unless Roman drops dead or just walks away, and Chelsea are faced with trying to finance the club on a normal basis. Even then, £40m per year of CL money means we probably couldn't compete until Chelsea have been out of the CL for about 4 years.

I can only assume you didn't watch us for long when we were last in this division.

On a separate note, does any of the following sound familiar? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20766936

Just bought two tickets for the Cup Match.
Depressed of Shirley replied to Deeps's topic in The Saints
Just bought 3 tickets on 3 season tickets at the ticket office. Charged £1.50 per ticket for paying by debit card, but was given three paper tickets, not an update on the season ticket card. Anyone know if they have changed the process over the past three days? -
Which is why I am glad you never go to a game. People who boo, with no justification, should f**k off and support someone else, a point forcefully made to someone sat near me in the ground today.

Only did Sunderland, but remember one mid week game where we still left at midnight the previous day, and arrived in Sunderland 12 hours before kick off. Usually did Newcastle by car, as the wife has family in Cramlington
-
I was at most of the above, but the ones I would add are as follows. Winning 1-0 at Anfield after being battered for 89 mins and scoring in the last minute. Sporting Lisbon away in the UEFA cup, crap game but a good two day trip from Bournmeouth airport. Anderlecht away, crap result, but got to see my dad legless and sea sick on the way home Any trip to Sunderland with Clive Foley, leaving at midnight and travelling through the night. Last game at Maine Road Any game in 83/84 season, especially Sheff Wed away Leeds away when we won 3-0 and Mark Wright came of age as a player P****y away 1976, after the FA cup semi, when we beat them with those who were sober after the celebrations West Brom away in the 1976 cup run.

I think we might need to write some letters to WSC.
