How do you follow the Saints when you're not in Southampton
Farnboro Saint replied to aussiesaint20's topic in The Saints
I've recently got back from four months travelling round South America. Eight countries, from Colombia to Brazil. Naturally I wore my Saints shirt with pride in every country, making it my mission to find some fellow Saints fans. I wasn't holding much hope of watching us live, apart from streaming (it isn't like Asia where they show every single Prem match) but I did however manage to stumble into a bar to see the 2-1 loss to United live on TV, in literally the middle of nowhere in Ecuador. The last place I was expecting to see us live. On my primary objective though - locating Saints fans, I started to lose hope. Chelsea and Manc fans bloody everywhere, I even found a Wycombe fan, but no Saints... Until, having almost given up hope, at the very top of Machu Picchu in Peru, I bumped into a couple of Kingsland season ticket holders and had a great chat for twenty minutes or so. I'm aware that now we are concentrating on the big picture - the 'global brand', it's no big deal really.. but it's always nice to bump into some people who share that same love as you do, half way round the world. For me, it made a fantastic day, even better. -
Millwall 2 - 3 Saints, in March. Rickie Lambert smashing home two penalties in the last five minutes. I celebrated so much i thought my head was going to explode.

I always forget to write down the alternative number, can somebody do the honours please? Many thanks

To be fair Mikey, i heard it from the Doncaster fans first ;p that was on 38mins when there was quite a lot of people going downstairs. The streams of people leaving 85mins+ is nothing short of disgraceful. I actually sit there embarrassed, looking around seeing so many people heading for the exit. I fully appreciate its a fecking nightmare getting out of the ground when there is a big crowd and then you get stuck in all the traffic too...yes its annoying, but there is no way in hell i would leave a few minutes early just to save myself 20 mins further down the line. To all those people who leave early - Have you ever thought of what our players think when they see half the crowd leaving before the end? Its shocking and those particular people need to have a proper good look at themselves. On a more positive note though, yet another cracking day to be a Saints fan!

It very nearly has - Anyone still intending to buy tickets for this game should hurry.... I just phoned in to get three tickets and they only have blocks 1-3 left...suits me perfectly, right next to the Brighton fans and the Itchen is the only stand i havent been in so far this season.

100% agree, because i have experienced this first hand... Im a Chandlers Ford boy, so been Saints all my life, but when i moved to Farnborough at 16, i was all by myself.....Not for long... One day, down the pub, i met another Saint (he posts on this forum)...Since then, we have converted most of our friends to become Saints fans. But dont be fooled, these arent 'non football' fans...these are big, liverpool, man u and even stoke fans, who all support these clubs for various reasons (family connections etc), but whereas they will only travel 4-6 hours a couple of times a season to see 'their' team....they come with us on a regular basis to see Saints. And the reason? We are a popular, attractive, south coast club, with a brilliant team, a cracking stadium and some great support! So dont go thinking its all down to catchment areas, or where you live....the reality is, Saints are infectious!!! and i have three close mates, who all supposedly support different teams, but currently own Southampton FC shirts, to back me up!

A much improved performance over last week. The defence looked much better than against Forest and moving Cork back into midfield was a very good decision by Adkins. I was disappointed for Connolly not to get that goal, apart from the fact he wasnt offside, i felt he really deserved it this week, he had a great game. The whole team were superb though. Im becoming rather accustomed to watching our South Coast Brazil every week. Long may it continue..

Top 3 easy...Derby cause of the fans! Blackpool and Brighton cause of the managers! And it's about bloody time we put 3 past man u in the cup...but at their place for a change.

Look on the brightside - fixtures for Sat.. Millwall v West Ham Palace v Middlesbrough Leicester v Brighton Come Sunday afternoon we may have a cracking opportunity to regain our rightfully deserved spot at the top of the table ; )

Fox was shocking today, no question about it! He saved himself slightly by the cracking free kick to set up Lamberts third, but having said that, he gave them far too much space down the wing (enough for a couple of buses to get through), never closed them down, let them run onto him without even putting in a challenge. I left the game today delighted with the win and feel we were lucky to be honest...but i felt we missed Harding badly. Fox needs to improve, big time!

I know what you mean.... Brazil almost look as good as us dont they...almost, but not quite! :-)

Viking thats a big generalisation there chap... Im 25 and have been drinking real ale for the past 7 years, i work in a pub with 10 ale pumps so my palate is well in order on that front, but im sorry to say Saints Ale will never be a 49er or Summer Lightning. It just doesnt quite make the grade and im positive that is partly is down to its strength.

Saints Ale was a bit of a let down really, no individuality, just a weak ale and not a lot of flavour. But why anybody would complain about Singha when we had Carlsberg last year is beyond me...simply crazy. Cracking beer and i was delighted to see it make an appearance.

Ah, i see...there goes that plan then. Got my hopes up from the black wing section on the stadium pic below.. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2384523,00.html

Looking for a bit of advice please people, im really torn as to where in the ground i should get my ST... When i was younger i used to love it in the Northam, but over the past couple of years ive been switching between the Kingsland stand (centre) and the Kingsland / Northam corner - always find its quite a good atmosphere there, with the added bonus of being able to sit down if you have had a few too many beers. However, this year am i right in thinking the Itchen corner has been opened back up? I remember a few years ago looking across from the Kingsland and thinking it looked pretty decent over by the away fans, bit of singing, bit of banter with the other stands and away fans. Can anybody advise if im correct in thinking this? And also if people are buying ST's there? My thinking is, sitting right next to the away fans, looking out across a packed Kingsland stand would be pretty decent. Also, its one extra number for the 'tv side' so people actually start to recognise we have a near full ground when on TV and not just sitting at home, looking at the empty corporate seats, thinking 'they cant fill their ground'. Comments and suggestions would be most welcome...
