Paul Telfer, everyone hated him but me, always workmen like. Even when he was having a shocker he never hid away. Even played champions league football after his spell with us!

Would snap your hand off for Huddlestone at £5 million, massively underated! Fantastic technique!

To be honest, with the kind of money being suggested for Hooper I'd rather move for a proven striker in the prem like Darren Bent, I know he's not everyone's cup of tea but you can't argue with his scoring record in the premiership. Hooper, despite his record in the SPL, is an unknown in the EPL and there's a marked difference in the quality of opposition. I'd of course welcome someone with such a fantastic scoring record, but I don't think it would be an "exciting" signing

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11700/8791621/Celtic-star-Victor-Wanyama-is-waiting-to-open-talks-with-Cardiff-City comments from his agent above suggest the deal has been dead for 2 weeks, could be just agent talk but I suspect this is why we've been linked with both Banega & Nainggolan in recent weeks, both of whom I understand are defensive midfielders. I can’t see us signing 3 defensive midfielders, so I suspect it'll be 1 from Wanyama, Nainggolan, Banega or an as yet undisclosed player. Can’t say I have seen any of them play, but my preference if we're spending £12 million+ would be to sign a player who has played most consistently in the most competitive league I believe we're looking to sign 4-5 players this summer A defender - Completed A Midfielder - A Wide player - Striker -

Using a free translator Diego Castro is one of the most sought-after players of Getafe and there are teams interested in signing him: Seville and Southampton. The Andalusian club denies it, but would have thought of it as a possible substitute Jesus Navas, player who has marched to the Arsenal. Diego Castro, although he is right-handed, played interchangeably by either band, still even more common on the left side. The other person concerned are the English of the Southampton team training with Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine coach has requested the hiring of Diego Castro, who knows of his period on the bench of Espanyol. Recently, Diego Castro spoke of his future before the holidays: 'I am open to all possibilities, here in Spain or other experiences, but I signed a long contract with Getafe and here I am happy and quiet'. Diego Castro (30 years) has a contract in force until 2015 and is one of the mainstays of the Getafe. President Angel Torres expects concrete offers: 'If you finally arrive, sit and negotiate'. Not sure why Beattie is getting hammered? I've meet him on a number of occasions at charity events and found him a likeable character. Good for him on making the move into management, I personally hope he has massive success. As others have said though, can't believe some even entertained the idea of sharps moving to acc

I'd expected to see these players leave regardless of contract, with a few youth players added into the mix Billy Sharp Dean Hammond Frazer Richardson Danny Seaborne Richard Chaplow Danny Butterfield Steve De Ridder Tommy Forecast Ryan Dickson Aaron Martin Lee Barnard Jonathan Forte Tadanari Lee

The how much will we spend in the summer thread
Dan Johnson replied to Avenue Saint's topic in The Saints
I'll drive him up there myself if we'd get £20 million for Lallana -
Swansea 1-2 Win - Swanseas form is poor, they're already in europe and have nothing to play for, i expect a good game of football but feel we have momentum West Brom 1-0 Win - They Drew away at Stoke & then lost to West Ham away in their last 2 away league games, again their season is over. A poor game with a goal seperating the sides... Spurs 3-1 Loss - They simply have to win if they want to get champions league, they lack out and out strikers but have quailty everywhere else. They have too much pace in their side and we'll struggle! Sunderland 2-0 Loss - They'll be a different side after the derby win, they're not much better than us but I think this will be a game they'll be up for. This win will see them mathmatically safe and they'll make sure they get it. Stoke 2-1 Win - Depending on whether Stoke have to win to stay up, if they do then the result could go either way

Maya is the best CB we've had at this club since Michael Svensson. Our best summer signing by a country mile! Will be one of 4-5 players I'll be considering as player of the season.... Maya Lambert Punch Spiderman Cork

Think he wanted to play elsewhere but other clubs couldnt afford his wages, so we were asked to either buy out his remaining contract to let him leave or subsidise his wages at another club but we refused, it was put down as a "Business decission" I suspect the pay rises he got when we got promoted twice over put him in that situation. If he was on £3000 a week when he signed he's probably on nearly £4500 now, thats nearly an extra £80k a year. For someone who potentially will be out of work at 35 & who will never earn that kind of money again you can hardly blame him. We all have financial commitments to meet. Just because he's a footballer & on good money doesnt make his commitments any less pressing than ours. If he was on 10-15k a week it would be different, but I highly doubt that!

Completely & Utterly astounded by the lack of football knowledge on this football forum!! Our fullbacks come in for allot of flack because they're left exposed defensively, then get hammered if they're not getting forward... because they're expected to get forward at every oppertunity!! We're playing 4-3-3 FFS!!! If we're attacking the front 3 (Lambert, Jay Rod, Gaston) 1 from the midfield (lallana) & normally both fullbacks (Fox & clyne) are all forward!! It is impossible for any full back to play that way all game, fox came off because he was shattered, not because he was having a shocker! Our midfield, because of the way we set out, offer very little protection over our full backs and often they're left in a 2 on 1 situation in which they can't commit so end up backing off. Even when we play a flat 4 with lallana on the left like we were last season, lallana drifts inside to often that he offers no protection for Fox! There has been times where Fox has been accountable, the poor header in the City game springs to mind, but every player has & they can only learn from that and improve.

Southgate & Neville best pundits on TV by a mile, I absoultely hated the rat faced ***** but now can understand why he played at such a high level for so long. Top Top pro, & top pundit, his knowlege on the game puts others to shame!

Adkins said yesterday in his post match interview "Thats why defenders cost so much at this level" http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19458521 Pretty sure that translates to we were in for a few & were effectively priced out of the market. We also must not forget, 2 of our last 3 games were against 1st & 2nd in the league, mistakes will get punished. A better result against Wigan & we'd have been saying we've got what we expected. you can't panic after 3 games, we certainly have showed enough (in 2 out of the 3 games) that we'll be OK at this level. Just because we didnt sign any more defenders, doesnt mean we didnt try, or indeed that we spent the money we had for defenders elsewhere

Dean Hammond - Brighton Season Long Loan Deal
Dan Johnson replied to Big_Bald_Si's topic in The Saints
Think we owe it to Deano that if an offer comes in from a club where he's likely to be a starter, then we give him the oppertunity to talk with them. It's a good suit for him, he wouldnt have to move his family if he didnt want to, Charlton are on the up & he has the experience they'll need to get them out of that division. As previously mentioned, if he appears for another club at SMS he should get a warm reception. Good solid performer at championship level, lacks the pace for top flight imho -
Could well have signed, but could be wanting to get him over to the UK for press photos before the offical press release. If he's still abroad and we annouce the signature of our most expensive player with no decent quotes/photos then it will be seen as a bit of a PR balls up! Hopefully the delay is just why he's flying over here to get photos done :-)

It's on Vitesse site http://www.vitesse.nl/nieuws/bericht/vitesse-en-southampton-akkoord-over-ba-ttner/2721 I'd imagine seeing that he played in a friendly on Saturday & having already agreed to join us that its just a case of him coming over here having a medical & signing the contract. Pretty much a done deal
-
Signed a new 5 year deal with the club last year, so has 4 years left on his contract. Even with Rangers financial issues £2 million seems cheap. He is a Rangers fan too so I'd be surprised, unless rangers have to start in the bottom tier of Scottish football. He's the kind of player we should be signing IMHO more experience than spiderman, better than Hammond competition for Cork. Probably Rangers best player too
-
Absoultely spot on, I'm shocked at the amount of people that get on Foxs back for not getting getting forward more, but then with Lallana drifting inside to support the front two he's hardly going to burst forward EVERYTIME! That in turn leaves him exposed when we're hit on the break, that's the system we play and the chance we take. We wouldnt have scored as many goals as we have this season if it weren't the case. There are times when Foxs distrubition can be critisied but he's premier league quailty with out a doubt

Who will leave over the summer?
Dan Johnson replied to Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd's topic in The Saints
Exactly what I expect too although I'd add Punch to the list of midfielders.
