Ummmm, I think you missed the joke....
-
What happens if we end up 9th or 10th? Is that above middling but yet not any good?
-
Dalek must have been trawling all the Wetherspoons to get these rumours rather than online...

Danny Rose. Actual lol

If you don't know, what chance do the rest of us stand?

Time to lock this thread and start a new one again. Coz it definitely won't happen next time....

Ever Fell Out With a Saints fan with a different opinion in real life?
Jez replied to St.JonB's topic in The Saints
Two different groups of Saints supporting buddies of mine got into a bit of a fracas last season, when two of the individuals in particular were "discussing" Lallana, and it was apparently close to blows. I wasn't even there but was contacted by people on both sides as an intermediary! Re-surfaced a year later when some of them ran into each other in a pub when watching the Liverpool game at the weekend. All over different opinions on a player! -
I have not rated Townsend and his style of football since he came to prominence, and would be gutted if after slating him and mocking him for ages, we now signed him. Just not the way I want to see football played! And for £10m..... hugely overpriced (all imo of course)

What if we keep him for 7 year and he becomes one of our best players for each of those years? Sell on value relevant? Kind of agree he wasn't our first choice though, especially with the quickly increased bids over the apparent last few days. Welcome to St Marys though Shane, I'm confident he'll be a good player for us. Price irrelevant really, although of course we all know it isn't based on expectations from all parties!
-
I hope so. Or we'll have to sign Marshall too!
-
If you are basing your expectations of us signing two or three players over the weekend on what Guan originally said, then you have either got 2nd hand information poorly passed to you, or didn't read what he said properly. He had said it would all be announced after the weekend, not over the weekend. Today I think was the target for one announcement. So way to go on finding something to beat "the board" with despite there being no truth to what you say. Of course, if nothing materialises today, and everyone's furious F5'ing is for nothing, then we can all moan

It'll be forgotten by all except a few, and you can guarantee that years in the future, people on here will repeat verbatim nonsense about KL attempting to sell the club and thats why she sold the players, or it being Ralph's fault coz he prefers hockey, or the players leaving coz they all had a secret pact, and the more plausible reasons for our players leaving will be ignored. I bet 95% of people on this forum if asked for the reasons for the players leaving wouldn't even mention the FFP. I still find it odd that the info contained within this article hasn't been picked up elsewhere and its barely been commented on here. I guess its not dramatic or negative enough to warrant "red top" paper inclusion or people just can't be bothered to read the article.

That could work. Certainly much better than how it is currently set up where teams can only expand x% on what they are now, rather than improve by more if they can afford it.

Yay I posted the article about 10 mins before you on the awful BBC article thread, encouraging people to read this instead, but not being a full member, wasn't able to start a new thread, so glad someone has given it some publicity of its own. Funny how a relatively positive article (well, nearer the end!) only has a handful of replies compared to pages following the BBC article... sorry - not funny, meant normal round these parts! Everyone should read the article, interesting to know how many peoples minds it changes, and if people can be a bit more rational and stop hating Ralph/Les/KL etc, like we sold all the players just because we wanted to. I posted it directly in reply to someone saying that Saints purposely chose not to offer the leaving players the same wages they were being offered elsewhere...

BBC Article - The inside story of the great Southampton sell-off
Jez replied to Donatello's topic in The Saints
Didnt want to? More likely that they couldn't as suggested in the following article: http://www.footyplace.com/features/ffp-to-blame-for-southampton-exodus-0730298110 Perhaps everyone should read that article instead of the BBC rubbish - no idea if the above link has already been posted, can't obviously see it has anywhere, but with the accelerated posting going on at the moment whilst everyone panics, there is not enough hours in the day to keep up with this board! -
Premier League. Not Premiership. It was the Premier League when it was first established in 1992, it is the Premier League now (again since 2007 - so only the last seven years!!). Hard to believe any "facts" you put forward when you can't get the basics right (and yeah, you're not alone. I'm looking squarely at you now Mr Alan Brazil)
-
Apologies Tom28, didn't read far enough ahead to see you had already addressed David's point. Not sure Boruc's start was that great though, especially counting his bottle throwing incident and subsequent club enforced "suspension"

Lovren was awesome from day one. Wanyama took maybe 4/5 games before he looked decent and was clearly doing his job very well, but even then, we didn't have a bad start to the season. Don't remember Clyne struggling when he first joined us - yes he has improved but he was never bad. Don't think Yoshida was anything but his usual self after he joined us either - could you argue he has got better or worse? So the new boys coming in aren't necessarily awful every time they play in the Prem league. Besides, we may sign some ex Prem players yet who won't need time to settle/get used to the pace etc

Do we have one of the top 5 best academies in Europe?
Jez replied to Wiggles31's topic in The Saints
I'd like to see a list of the players in top flight football, or that have played top flight football, over the past say 5 years (so it is current) for all the top 10 teams mentioned above. Otherwise until then, how can you compare? One Ronaldo vs one Bale. I don't personally know enough about Sporting Lisbon to know much else who they have produced, but I know that Saints have produced a lot of top flight footballers (not just your Bale, Walcott, Shaw, Ox etc) in recent times but have no idea how many Portugese players that were schooled at Sporting now play top flight in Portugal or elsewhere around the world. But still, regardless of all that, we have just massively improved our academy, so if it is excellent based purely on past results, i.e. players we see or are worth x millions, that surely we have just hugely improved our academy and we need to go another 3 places up that fictional and unprovable list! Regardless of proof, I would argue we are surely in the top 5 in the world. As for any Chelsea arguments.... really? -
You been watching Kompany all season long?
-
Unbelievable. Well, actually, no it's not considering the nonsense you spout usually. And to think we all thought you were mental just coz of your views on football, never mind the real world. I think you need some mental help to get over the obvious issues your teachers caused you when you were at school. It goes without saying, but as for an example of one, my wife is a teacher and works far longer hours than I do, all year round, and most weekends too. Dunno why I bother to be honest, not like anything anyone says would ever change Alpine's mind! You're a freak.
