  1. The meeting that's coming up for said friend colleague is billed as a "Wellness Meeting". I have no idea what format the meeting takes but my colleague has said that they (the Company) have asked for and received information on his condition, presumably from his GP. I believe the Company know about the muscular dystrophy, a condition that can take as long as 20 years to properly manifest itself, allegedly. I am not sure my colleague is up to have a meeting with anyone....if that makes any sense.
  2. A colleague/friend has in the last two weeks or so tried to kill himself - he doesn't remember stabbing himself but that's evidently what he did. He narrowly missed piercing his heart but he tells me his left lung was affected because it filled with blood. He says he wasn't drunk or on drugs. 3 months ago this same friend/colleague was diagnosed as having muscular dystrophy and pretty much went into a depression and was signed off from work and I don't think he has ever recovered from being told about this. He reckons he has just been diagnosed as suffering from hypermania, whatever that is. He is due to meet HR this Wednesday and I would like be able to join him, I believe he is allowed to have some one come in with him. He said that he is likely to say something he will regret in the meeting which worries me a little. He would like to stop work as his job was fielding complaints all day, something I can tell you was a stressful occupation and all he is after is a pay off. I'd like to know something about his rights. He has worked at the company for 13 years in a variety of roles. I would have thought that he could ask to be retired on the grounds of ill health. I would welcome anyone's input into what his rights are. I feel very very sorry for this guy and I would like to help him.

  4. Some questions for you economists out there. In round figures 1 million jobs are going, 500,000 in private sector and the same in the public sector. Has anyone costed this in terms of in redundancy payments, reduced tax revenues, increased benefits paid out. What do we save by doing this? We allegedly pay £140 million a day in interest to service our debt. To whom are we repaying it. A serious question if I may. Why don't we refuse to pay back the interest on the loans. Be nice in your reply. I can't understand why if the Bank of England is our bank we have to pay any interest on monies the country has borrowed....we would certainly have to pay the money back. What is quantative easing if its not just printing money? Why do you have to pay interest on something created out of thin air as in money?

  9. Unite demands answers as Lloyds cut 4,500 job cuts with work going abroad
  10. You had to be there to see what Maggie Thatcher did to society to know who damaged us the most. Labour/Conservative....is there actually a difference? Never mind, we have the X factor
  11. Good buddies....we have an Eton/Oxbridge dominated Parliamentary system. Lets change the education system so we keep the masses down. Lets frighten the masses by inventing enemies (China, Iran etc) to justify Trident. Who owns the Bank of England? Lets monetize the masses as much as we can, get them into debt so we can control them. We are/were the 4th richest country in the world. Is this the best we can do for our children? At the same time as doing this to our children, this week HP announce 1300 UK redundancies, Vodafone announce the closure of a call centre in Banbury 400 jobs lost. Work is going abroad. The country is going down the pan. I will tell my kids that if they have to pay for a Uni education they should have no qualms about leaving the country for one which will give them better prospects, Oz or Canada for example. Does Australia have much of a nuclear capability? Canada?
  12. I used my Philosphy degree in the early years of my career. I ended up in IT. University changed me enormously, its not not necessarily the subject that is studied, but the whole experience. I could not in all conscience stop some one from attending.

  14. 99.99% on here won't have a clue what you have said.....but I do. I think I got brainwashed in the 80's with the Linn when I suspect Thorens probably made better decks, I am sure there's a couple of legendary Thorens decks I should have listened to.
  15. To balance things here, there are loads of anecdotes of the exact opposite behaviour by Norman.. I guess you do have to go with what you experience. I told my kids a few years ago that I thought his autobiography should be studied at school. Lessons in self relience, surviving in adversity etc. A fantastic bloke in my view, who faced life's battles head on and won most of them!!
  16. For me its his hi fi, he is a Naim man....I am a quad man. We both have Linn record decks
