I thought Mellis James and Lalana were below par with their final pass into the front men and none of them tracked back and tackled in the last 20 minutes unlike Stockport - no talent and just hard graft. We need a couple of midfield players/wide man

Last 20 minutes Mellis James and Lallana tired and were poor but they were not substituted and as we lost the midfield the defence kept retreating. Ptting bambi on ice up front instead of Saga when he cannot trap a bag of cement and hold the ball up was not a clever move either. We should have been 4 up by then apart from the crossbar and abysmal final passes from our midfield three up to the front.

Reading apparently as they seem to have lost out to Pompey over Tommy Smith even though Smith had agreed to join Reading.

I think this is not just a fitness problem but lack of inexperience and concentration issues in tracking back and marking. Having said that I thought most players were taught to track back in the Tyro league.

I do not think we have ever used him properly to get the best out of him and to loan him out was criminal but we know the financial reasons why. If he wants away then fine and I would prefer we lose him rather than Saga who I thouht played well tonight working off Lambert and pulling the defenders wide.

I thought it was a good performance all round apart from when Bowyer lost his marker completely to score and Carsley was allowed to walk unmarked into the penalty box to score. We had plenty of chances and two clear cut penalties but the referee missed them but he missed everything else as well including the late stuff dished out by Birmingham.

If you read and post regularly on here it does not take long to realise who are credible (even if they are sometimes off the mark) and who are the ****s. All I do is put the ****s led by sumdunce/numpty canteen on ignore and it is very satisfying and I do not feel I am missing out on anything.

I think you are right but if they could not make it in the Championship and now are performing poorly in L1 they will have to return to the Reserves or be loaned out - we cannot carry them another season. As an example how many other strikers in L1 would have missed Patersons chance with the keeper over committed and not quite in the best position to save a shot unless you half heartedly mi**** it at him.

Yes I try and watch most home games on a Saturday - in my opinion the tall Finnish guy ran the midfield in that side but we let him go. I will accept that James was reasonably effective at that level in midfield in a good side but now it is a different story.

Crikey some posters on here think James is Ok. He was a poor midfield player in the Reserves and U18s and cost us a shed load of goals last year and will again if he is at right back. He cannot run tackle pass or head the ball - all he can do is put a good cross in from deep - ocasionally. Every other full back in L1 would have blocked tripped chopped down or anything else to stop the cross going 1 nil up with 10 minutes to go but he was nowhere. Useless.

I thought he was pretty good for a first game considering he had to watch his right side all the time as James gave no cover at all. He won almost all balls in the air which is what you need in L1.

Bit generous I thought with James, Lallana and Paterson - replace them internally or externally and we will have a half decent side.

Better performance but then it could not get worse than Swindon. Patterson should have had a hattrick but could not hit a barn door and James and Lallana's performances were again dire. Sort those jokers out and we will have a side that can do well this season.

I thought apart from a couple of better crosses James was as bad as he was at Swindon. The combination of him and Thompson on the right side just left it wide open for Brentford - not a tackle in them and both slow getting back.

I cannot see anyone coming in for them from the Championship on their wages and so we will have to play them

He is certainly crap at the moment but he is young for a centre half and should only be loaned out not jettisoned. He may turn into a different player when he gets some body weight - at the moment he is just pushed off the ball

A good clue to what may be going on is whether he is still training with us. I would assume he has a good case if he was not playing for Tunisia because he was injured last season.

Whatever - but he kept a clueless Paterson on last night with Raziak and Saga on the bench. There is no point making the changes in the last 5 minutes after 90 minutes of dross.

All agreed but we saw some of the worst performances ever witnessed in a Saints shirt - James Lancashire Wotton Lallana Patterson. I suppose you have to excuse the younger ones as not ready for this league but there are no excuses for just giving the ball away and failure to make challenges in key areas. Did Lancashire win a header or mark his Swindon player - if he did I did not see it and I was there.
