  1. West Ham is a small club with small supporters. Never liked their wannabe attitude and arrogance. And the 44 years I supported Saints the Hammers have been much less present in the best league of the country than Saints have.
  2. Ok, thanks. I hope the fact that O'Riley knows Russell Martin and is familiar with his football philosophy will make a difference in Saints' favour. But first of all we have to meet Celtics price tag on O'Riley. I hope we do, and that O'Riley says yes , because signing him will make us so much better, I feel.
  3. What is the latest on O'Riley?
  4. Mentioned elsewhere: Paul Moody, right? The only player with the last name Moody is Paul Moody.
  5. A "no. 9" certainly covers quite a lot in modern football, so he is several things but primarily still perceived as a striker who is often physically strong to cope with big defenders and who much of the time operates centrally in the front line of his team, running deep in channels without finding himself offside to find space and collect the ball and either try to find more space to score himself or pass the ball to team mates who are around him or come running from behind. Add to that that a classic no. 9 is also very important as first line of defense, pressing, when the opposition try to build up from the back. Also the no. 9 is important in offering himself in link up play when his team mates move the ball through the lines of the opposition with the no. 9 helping, often with his back against the opposition goal and a defender or defensive midfielder breathing him down his neck - essentially helping with holding and protecting the ball with as few touches on the ball as possible while team mates run forward to take part in building an attack. A big strong no. 9 is also often very usefull at set pieces in both ends of the pitch because of his physic and skills in the air.
  6. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what does the COT mean? I'm new here and English is not my mother language. Is it a thread somewhere in the forum? I wonder why a kind co-member warned me to perceive "the COT" with a pinch of salt.
  7. I'm glad you enjoyed it too πŸ‘ There were SO many nail biting "win or die" games in the 90s for us. I remember in 98/99 we were 1-3 down at home vs Blackburn with very few matches left; Mark Hughes scored to 2-3 or 3-3 and we ended up with a supremely precious point, went on to beat Everton 2-0 in the last match of the season (Pahars x 2) and Blackburn and Wimbledon? and ? got relegated. No trophy or top 6 achievements in the 90s but we were in a cup final (Full Members Cup / the Zenith Data Systems Cup ) at Wembley with a big crowd, which we lost 3-2 to Forest in 92, BUT we had Le God , and I enjoyed so much that Saints managed to avoid relegation in that tough decade - still playing at The Dell, which became one of the smallest crowd capacity stadiums (14.254) because of the "all seater" rule. Financially challenging decade in a small stadium but we made it, not least due to Le Tiss being legendarily loyal, and I feel very proud of it as a Saints fan.
  8. I thought you asked twice 😁
  9. Plenty. You shouldn't have to go far to find one whereever you are in Sjælland (Zealand), Jylland (Jutland) and Fyn (Funen) which are the three main regions in the kingdom of Denmark 😎 In Northern Zealand (about 40 kilometers from Copenhagen) there is one that I have connections to via a good friend who is the main golf course prep guy there.
  10. Jutland is a pretty long drive from Cph., yes, although by boat it's not that bad. From Cph. Denmark to Malmo Sweden there's a bridge connecting the two - and a 30-45 minutes drive from Cph. Less than an hour by train.
  11. No worries. Ur not alone saintnick πŸ‘
  12. Oh yes, plenty. I can actually help you visiting one - about 40 kilometers from central Copenhagen - as I know the main golf course prep guy there well, because we both work part time for the same football club - and you would be welcomed wholeheartedly I'm sure to that golf course.
  13. Dixon, Speedie, Groves = shit. But thanks for mentioning Ken Monkou. He did a good job for us and was with us for around 7 years.. GOOD signing. Nobody could head (clear) the ball longer than him. We were 4-4 level with Norwich shortly before the final whistle in a "win or get lost" match when I took a shower because I was so nervous. 5 minutes later Norwich 4 - Saints 5. Kenny Monkou the goal scorer Unforgettable πŸ₯°
  14. Yeah 😎 And Atalanta cannot match our wage offer, I'm pretty sure πŸ‘ and... O'Riley potentially having a good season or two with us could be a master stroke for him compared to the Atalanta connection. Atalanta most likely won't win anything domestically in Italy, nor will they win the CL (or Europe League (again) ) (neither will Celtic win anything in Europe) ..... , and playing in England -> O'Riley can, I imagine, with much more ease, catch the eye of bigger, richer PL clubs if he ultimately wants to sign for one of those (Chelsea πŸ™„ πŸ˜’ 🀒 ) O'Riley does prefer to play in the English PL according to serious Danish sources such as the highly rated Danish podcast Mediano! And then there's the RM connection..., so I'm quite optimistic that he could ultimately make the decision to sign for Saints and join up with Russel Martin. Fingers crossed.
  15. Striker Colin Clark did ok for us πŸ‘ Northern Ireland international I think he was.
  16. Above. More goals and another bow from Ekelund after having scored. This time from a Matt beauty assist. Not sure against whom.....

  18. True πŸ‘ Great memories πŸ‘ I watched that exact goal from the past against Coventry at Highfield Road - about 6 weeks ago on Danish viaplay, who showed Danish PL goals 😎 It was Ronnie who scored (from Matts? or Dowies? brilliant assist). I certainly remember Ron running to the fans, taking a bow and celebrating the goal. I hope we are many who loved the Alan Ball management era. I will try to find that particular goal vs Coventry, link it here, and bring out a toast for Alan Ball (R.I.P.). Alan Ball found Ronnie E. in Barcelona, got the loan deal over the line and "Bally" was most likely the main cause MLT had probably his two best seasons of his long career under Ballys management. Bally gave Matty responsibility (the armband) and freedom for brilliance on the pitch and created that great relationsship between Ronnie and Matty,
  19. Yes. And O'Rileys stats from last season is even better that Stu Armstrongs best season up there. And most of us loved Stu. So - I certainly hope we get O'Riley. With the RM connection to him and all... Maybe a last second deal in the transfer window? We are allowed to hope.
  20. It seems he is training with the youngsters, yes, No deal until' we've played vs N'Castel I suppose.... Eddie Howe is not such a decent fella I think
  21. His full wage being how much, approximately?
  22. Ronnie E was class. Thanks for bringing his name up πŸ‘
  23. Not the best streaming watching from Denmark. Not sure Lis was responsible for those two big (struck the post) chances to Bordeaux at the end. Maybe he actually saved one via the post. Smallbone should have made it 4-2 seconds before the ref blew the final whistle.
  24. Fair enough 😎 I really hope he can put all the injury sh*t behind him and produce for us.
