  1. Meanwhile his News colleague Emma Judd has done just that .... "Mr Justice Peter Smith agreed to delay the start until 2pm amid indications that the parties involved in the High Court action were discussing a last-minute deal" http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/delayed-start-in-pompey-court-hearing-1-4981207
  2. It's very unlikely now that the case will finish until tomorrow, and then there is a fair chance the judge will take a few days to 'reflect' and write up his decision. Maybe the dream (but unlikely) scenario for the FL is that he decides in favour of chainrai , but only makes his decision public just after their final league fixture, so they go out of business but all their results this season can stand. Personally my dream is still that they start next season in L2 on -10 and skint
  3. Mordaunt will leave as soon as she's been in enough photos. It's all about publicity for her
  4. As I said on the 'lounge' thread on this, I would not publicly celebrate anyone's death. She has a grieving family. Let's respect that. However, do not expect me to join in with this airbrushed version of history that is being pushed now. Thatcher did great and lasting harm to the structure of society in this country, encouraging self interest before that of others, and glorifying personal greed. Her "There's no such thing as society" quote sums it up. How Cameron squares that with his "big society" drivel is a quite a feat of 'doublespeak' even by politicians' standards. The Falklands war (supposedly her finest hour, and the only reason she was re-elected in 1983 after being way behind in the polls in 1981/2 because her economic policy was failing) only came about because her government had sent signals (and reputedly had even started secret talks) that Argentina interpreted as showing it was going soft on the issue of sovereignty -- and in particular, it was her government that removed the main Navy protection vessel from the Islands that many took to be the final spark that caused the invasion. Lord Carrington did the honourable thing and fell on his sword to protect her from blame. As to a minute's silence at football matches, you must be joking. She hated football, and tried to destroy it as a professional sport in this country. Wanted to ban attendance at matches unless you already had an ID card showing you to be a fan at a club near where you lived (no casual 'walk up' at all, so in effect no new fans ever and no supporting the club of your youth after you've moved away), talked of banning all away fans even with ID, and saw football fans as scum. She wasn't much better with other sports. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22085707 for example. She was an iconic figure in our history yes, but not one for good.
  5. lol He really doesn't look like someone you'd welcome as a babysitter does he?
  6. Norwich City?
  7. It would be tough to blame her. Lots of people's kids go wrong.
  8. Even as very much a non-fan of hers, I did enjoy some of her sound bites. My favourite is the story that , at one cabinet meeting everyone present had the complete oppposite view to her. They all thought her idea was a daft one. Instead of changing her mind like most people would do when faced with counter advice from around a dozen people they'd personally chosen to advise her, she reportedly said , "Gentlemen, we appear to be at an impasse"!
  9. Interesting that she is apparently so popular amongst football fans given she virtually tried to destroy professional football in ths country at one point. Is there no one here old enough to remember her daft idea that ALL football fans would need to have ID cards showing them to fans of a specific club and that you wouldn't be able to have a card for a club more than 30 ( I think?) miles from your home address. No card, no admittance to any stadium. There was talk of banning all away fans and of course it was Thatcher who introduced the all-seater stadium rule that I note many of her fans on here are so against. http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/spl/aberdeen/face-saving-plan-on-id-cards-opposition-taunts-thatcher-over-climbdown-on-football-scheme-1.593402
  10. I wouldn't celebrate anyone's death, and my sympathies are with her family.... .....but I am not looking forward to the fanciful eulogies we'll now be subjected to, many from people who weren't even adults when she was in power. In my opinion she did great harm to the structure of society in the Uk (cf her "there is no such thing" quote) and let's face it she would never have survived the mess she made of her first term as PM if it hadn't been for the Falklands war boosting her popularity for the second election in 1983.
  11. Fair point, and that would lose money for the football creditors. Ah well, isn't the whole situation such a shame!
  12. Yes but so what? The club could then either fold or apply to non-league. It's not PKF's main job to keep them in the FL, if the alternative is better for the creditors.
  13. Just as long as he doesn't have the team in for a drink before.
  14. Anyone heard any news on Boruc ? Still 'dizzy', or fit to play?
  15. You're talking sense yet again Minty. Spot on.
  16. http://www.scotsman.com/the-scotsman/opinion/comment/brian-wilson-shetland-has-the-right-to-go-it-alone-1-2739336#.UPaCKGcZAns.twitter View on the Hebrides, Shetland and Orkney Isles position in relation to Scottish independence. Much of the oil is actually in waters that would belong to an independent Shetland, not the rest of Scotland.... and they are as close to Norway as they are to mainland Scotland!
  17. As I said , what Scotland? Much of the present-day romantic notion of Scotland was effectively invented in Queen Victoria's day, when it was fashionable.
  18. Exactly. And how much is 'much', or 'not much'? Given they haven't got a penny , any award to Kanu would be a problem.
  19. Is this because they can't use the muliti-ball system any more? Just how inaccurate are they?
  20. 4-4-2 will never work in modem warfare. We must send another striker to support the left wing
  21. It doesn't sound as if many of you actually heard the Radio 4 Today programme piece that started this. The bloke interviewed said he was only now going to receive £53 a week total income, because of the 'bedroom tax' reducing his benefits. (He has a 3 bedroom house ,which he doesn't want to leave because his kids stay with him 3 nights a week, but his ex-wife has official custody ,so they count as spare rooms.) The bloke had worked for years but lost his job a while back and had been unable to get proper work since, although he'd tried to set up as a market trader. At the end of the interview the presenter asked what he like to say to Duncan Smith, and he said 'ask him if he could live in £53 a week', so he did and IDs said ”if I had to I could". I've no idea if theTelegraph is correct in saying that since the interview it has emerged that the bloke gets some tax credits too.
  22. that joke article ought nonetheless to remind "the Scots" that there is real doubt who 'the Scots" are. The Western Ises, the Orkneys ,Shetland, etc were never really part of a unified Scotland. In fact I'm not sure there ever was a unified Scoland..... even the famous battles such as Bannockburn were nearly as much Scot v Scot as Scot v English.
  23. You had to look to discover that?!
  24. the FL are creating a new interpretation of how to enforce their rules, and the reality is that Portsmouth cannot exit this season in admin, rather than not entering the next. Indeed. That is why the end of season date is 'interesting'. Whilst Whitey Grandad is quite corect about the FL rules simply saying they cannot start a second season in admin, the press a few weeks back quoted the FL as having told PFC that they must come out of admin by the end of this season. This apparently fine semantic point could make quite a big difference.
  25. Exactly. They have got to come out of admin by the end of this season because they cannot start another season atill in admin. So the -10 becomes due then. The only question is will the FL apply it immediately or carry it over to next season if they are already relegated,as they would do with other points deductions. This precise situation (point deducted for failing previous CVA as opposed to for going into admin) is without precedent, so the FL can make it up as they go along. In Mawhinney's day there'd be little doubt that they've applied the punishment in whatever way caused the most damage. Now, it is less certain.
