Actually the worst song possible about Southampton, we're not f*cking rural and it makes no sense to portray ourselves as wurzels, unless i missed the farmland in bevois valley and st mary's growig up (saying that there was plenty of weed farms so maybe they count)
-
And yet our fans still sang about libraries, which just goes to show how mouth breathing our away support has become.
-
Also i'm not sure how many of you are old enough to remember when there were a bunch of folk singers that used to regularly play places like the dolphin in st denys, the songs they sang are hardly going to take over the terraces but they wrote some quality ones about our city like this.

Nothing will ever come close to the absolute low that was baby shark, though the adam/stuart armstrong with hand movements is bloody close. I think most people aren't really slagging off everything, clearly some people won't like stuff others will, but the one thing everyone - or most people - are in agreement with is we sing about the skates too much and that is f*cking sh*t. As for pride in the city of course it's a important, Southampton might be a shithole, but it's our shithole, and I f*cking love the place, it's my history, my family, my roots, it's those generations of my family that went to watch the saints before me, and those that still do now, it's my mates and their families, it's the pubs, parks and places I knocked around growing up. There's nothing that'll bring me more pride than hearing a Sotonian accent belting out a simple, SOUTHAMPTON, or watching nippers and their dads walk to the ground from the streets round the city. There really is nothing more important than that connection, I mean if it's not pride in Southampton then what is it? You're basically just treating football as another form of entertainment, something to be consumed and forgotten about, or worse you're favourite TV show that happens to do a live tour every now and then. What's the point in that? What's the point in not following your local side and celebrating the city you're from? That's what football is all about at the end of the day. Without that you're just another plastic.

Last truly original one was the cedric song i think, there used to be a lot more in the past - marian pahars (robbed for JWP), Our Claus, Jose Fonte one, berkovich one, even danny ings was unique to the leagues at the time, also whilst the rickie lambert one was nicked I'm fairly sure no other club in the leagues we were in were using it - copying songs has always happened like you say, and in the past most clubs would even sing ynwa (not that the scousers or media would acknowledge that), but what makes it different now is that it's literally the week later people change one word and then sing it. I'm always a bit disappointed we don't have more that are just about the city itself, surely the whole point of supporting southampton is the pride in the place you're from? As for the crap about the skates i've no issue with the odd song, but it's the fact it's every song that makes it sh*t, especially as half the nippers singing it would bottle fratton away. Yeah raspberry beret for KWP was us but it's never going to catch on, for some reason our modern fans are terrified of songs that aren't used by other people.
-
But that's the point, unless we're just singing melodies the lyrics are what matters (plus maybe just maybe not nicking chants all the time, but i've given up on that one as originality isn't a thing for us anymore) To be honest at this point we probably have more songs about Portsmouth than we do about Saints/Southampton, which is utterly f*cking mad, and makes us look completely tinpot. Next time you're at an away game just take a count of how many times we sing about that lot down the road, it's reached the point where probably over half of what we sing is about them. I don't expect us to sing as much about the city anymore as we used to as a big chunk of our support now doesn't seem to come from Southampton so they're not going to have pride in where we come from, but at least back the team or sing about the players. Saying that we're probably approaching it all wrong, we should be giving new songs to city fans to use on tik tok and then our fans will copy it
-
Yup it's exactly that, no one can fault the numbers, nobody is saying it should be less boisterous (i'd be the first to slag off the sanitisation and gentrification of football) all most of us want is a bit more class. Sack off the pompey bollocks, stop nicking other clubs songs and come up with our own, and give the libraries stuff a rest. It all just makes us look noddy as f*ck
-
I don't really get that people slag off our own players ....all you keyboard warriors can fuck off in my opinion.
-
Well saturday was utterly f*cking shocking from us. Took us 9mins to sing about libraries and other than singing about the skates constantly and a section being bizarrely angry at Wesley Hoedt it was mostly silence. Then add to that the inbetweeners lot decided to light a smoke bomb in the concourse because they closed the food (not even alcohol as they don't sell that) place and it just showed that no matter how many numbers we take our quality is through the f*cking floor.
-
Most aerial duels won in the middle third of the pitch by a player under 5' 11", you'll never sing that! E I E I E I O, it's up the xG stats for away games in the midlands on a tuesday night in the second divsion stats table we go, and we use a median range on our statistical analysis this is what we sing, Carl Friedrich Gauss, Carl Friedrich Gauss, Carl Friedrich Gauss is our king (well prince)
-
Or you know you could just go to the game, have a laugh with your mates and family, hope saints win, enjoy it when we play well and not over analyse a bunch of blokes kicking a ball around a pitch. All this xG bollocks is utterly meaningless, imagine if we'd be quoting stats when Le Tiss was around, football isn't meant to be perfect or over thought, it's meant to be a laugh, an outlet, with human f*ck ups and moments of inspiration. Well that and pride in where you come from.
-
The gamesworkshop crowd have really sucked the fun out of football, basically turned it into a bunch of spreadsheets. Sometimes i wonder if this lot would be happier supporting an accounting firm instead of a football team, because they seem to love numbers and spreadsheets more than the game. Bloody nerds.

"Team of Jim Magilton's, we're just a team of Jim Magilton's..." "Crab, crab whereever we may be, Pass it backwards and sideways to me. And we might not be fast, we're never out of breath. Martin's team will bore you to death." "bored into losing, you'll be bored into losing"
-
A song sung by sunderland about Ross Stewart (and we're already trying to use for him) and used by multiple other clubs... Yeah that's a great example of how unoriginal and sh*t our support is now.

The Itchen North was class pre-covid, post covid it turned into a creche when all the dinlows from the Northam moved across, sung all the same shit songs they sung in the Northam, did all the same god awful "bantz" they did in the Northam and then were surprised it became the Northam Lite The Jack Stephens one i came up with as a joke to see what i could make up that was ridiculous but would stick, it stuck. Also the Tella one to Sugar, Honey, Honey was one of ours too. There's also a correlation between our support copying everyone else's songs constantly and being way more f*cking noddy, and the appearance out of nowhere of a bunch of "influencers" on social media like that rob bloke who seem to have no connection to the club/city and no experience or knowledge of terrace culture (or the culture of Southampton itself), and that weird bloke Sammy who spends his entire life on twitter nicking other clubs songs and shoehorning the word "scummers" or pompey into them. The scummers thing worked for a very short period of time, namely Fratton away in the cup, but it's now painfully over used and a good sign of someone who's trying way too f*cking hard (and to be fair trying way too f*cking hard is a massive part of the problem here). Plus so many of the people using it don't seem to realise we used to use if for the skates (or that the term skates was chosen by a joke poll in the ugly inside fanzine). We've tried to get a few new songs started down the years using new songs no one else used, a KWP to raspberry beret recently, adam armstrong to the proclaimers, nicked @Turkish Djeneppo one to there she goes, repurposed Sam Cooke's another saturday night, did the dock of the bay one, and even tried to get a tino one to the tune come on eileen that was literally just his name to the Too-ra-loo-ra Too-ra-loo-rye-ay bit going. Not one stuck. In fact they all just got drowned out by some pompey crap, or another song nicked from elsewhere was used instead. Honestly i actually think it'd be easier to get a song started with our lot by teaching it to another club to use on social media first than it would to actually try and do it at games.

Sit in the posh seats mush, and always act with class and decorum. That's why i want an away day up at yours, we'd take the tea rooms UNCHALLENGED

second half a shedload, as @Noodles34 will tell you if there's one thing i'm not it's quiet. Oh and for the record the Danny Ings song? That was us who came up with it. The Our Claus song? That was us who came up with it. Hell there's been a fair few more we came up with too (and you've probably sung). It's always funny when people say "what did you try and start" to people behind a screen, as they're almost certainly don't know who that person is

I do wonder if part of the problem is a big part of our modern "support" have no connection to the city itself. Why would they care about loving Southampton, or take pride in the history of the city, when they're not from it, and have no connection to it. To them Southampton is a football club/form of entertainment, rather than their roots and history of their family. Mind you maybe that logic doesn't work, because i can't for the life of my understand why someone from Wiltshire - with no family connections to the city - would "hate" pompey, it's all just pantomime at that point. Also @TheAlehouseBrawlers made a really good point, right up to the mid/late 90's we just ignored the skates most of the time and that wound them up something chronic. Don't get me wrong I f*cking hate the c*nts, not the football team, the city and people in it, but, and maybe because of that, I don't want to sing about them all the time. Also agree with @JRM i'd love to see Great to be back in Southampton used (and it doesn't even need to be the whole thing, just the chorus and bit about going to the game) but I honestly can't imagine our newer fans doing that. A while back our lot tried to get something new going to the tune of Dock Of The Bay, which given St Mary's is on the docks seemed to make sense, but literally no one bothered trying to join in. That was, Left my home in Hampshire, Headed out from Weston Bay. I've got something to live for, Love Southampton till my dying day. Oh sittin' on the dock of the bay, Watchin' the tide roll away. Sittin' on the dock of the bay, Wasting time (time oh time). Two, Three, Four (and repeat). Would've been unique, catchy and about the city/club, but instead we get another song nicked from Man City which mentions the skates.

Boro away this season was the perfect example of the complete lack of a need for facts for them to sing about libraries. Boro's fans had spent the first 30mins or so loudly singing and some lad banging a drum, at the first break they had in noise one of our mouth breathers immediately - and loudly - started singing football in a library. Fortunately a lot of them around him told him to shut up, but he genuinely looked confused to what he'd done wrong. I can only assume he was either deaf, or had his intelligence stunted because someone dropped a breeze block on his mum's stomach when she was pregnant. Either that or he'd never actually been to a library in his life.
-
This might be a controversial one for many on here, especially as the numbers we take away now are bigger than they've been in a very long time, but it seems to me that our away support is the worst quality in my lifetime. This isn't just a reference to the dark fruits drinking, bad gear sniffing, inbetweeners wanabees that have sprung up (though it might be because of them), but it's more to do with the noise we make now. Our obsession with the skates has actually reached a new level. At all the aways i've done this season we've sung about the skates more than anything else, with the low point for me coming first half away to Millwall when every single song sung was about them with the exception of OWTS. It even reached a point this weekend where the local journalist covering our game for the yorkshire post commented on it on social media Then you add to that the compulsion from some of the red lodge dwelling nippers to have to sing about libraries absolutely everywhere (i'd honestly not realised our support were made up of so many bibliophiles) and nippers who aren't even seven stone wet through "offering out" home fans and it just makes us look like f*cking yokels. God knows what we can do to improve it but it's come to the point where some of us actually actively avoid our own fans to escape the bantz boyz. Maybe it's just me getting old but all i really wish is our fans would have a bit of class and don't leave cities thinking Sotonians have the combined levels of class as spice addict who's wet himself in a JD Sports doorway

I think we can all agree the correct outcome here would be for the skates to be wound up as a football club, Fratton sold off to tesco's to pay the fine and Twitchy to be hung, drawn and quartered, and his body left outside the FA's building as a reminder for others not to repeat his actions.

If anyone is attending the atmosphere meeting can they ask the club for 3 year banning orders for anyone that sings about libraries at away games please? Personally i'd go for a lifetime ban from the city of southampton for doing it, but a 3 year banning order would be a good start. -
My brother moved to Wickham, a PO postcode, i refused to visit his house until he moved out of a PO postcode. Edit to say: I've also refused CV's from people at work because they went to school, college or uni in portsmouth

Fair few of our out of town supporters would probably sing that to be honest as they don't seem to actually like Southampton
