No need to overthink it, it's just Martin trying to copy Pep, which is a style that can work when every player in your team is a 50 million + player. We're trying to do it with the likes of Jack Stephens and Ryan Manning
-
I find it hard to believe that Ankerson could choose both Jones and then Martin. They are completely different managers with totally different ideas on how to play. Jones is a long ball "play on the front foot" merchant who does nothing but rant and rave. Martin has his possession football bollocks which is clearly a Man City & Pep way of playing. It seems quite likely to me that Martin was a Wilcox appointment considering his background
-
Statistically he was the worst shot stopper in the PL last season, and he is currently managing to match that achievement in the Championship - once again he is statistically the worst in the league. We have no hope of getting promoted if he is in goal. From the last few seasons, the highest number of goals any of the promoted teams conceded was in the low 40s. We're currently on 24 already. That's partly down to the style of play and giving the ball away in bad areas, allowing teams to counter on us with a numerical advantage due to so many players being in front of the ball, but it's also because the goalkeeper is a complete liability when it comes to keeping the ball out of his net. It can't carry on, but at this stage I have lost all faith in either the manager or the club to do anything about it
-
He's far too slow for it unfortunately. He has his strengths, keeping the ball well when playing at a slower tempo, but he is easily outpaced and outmuscled. Not his fault, he just isn't built that way. I don't blame him at all for the last couple of seasons, just don't think he fits in with the way Newcastle play.
-
Newcastle's success all season has been built on being quick, powerful, athletic and just playing at a tempo that teams haven't been able to cope with. The antithesis of JWP. I also can't see why West Ham would seem him as a replacement for Rice who has all of these qualities too. He's off though and it will be interesting to see where he ends up. Brighton as a MacAllister replacement maybe (a significant downgrade though)? I struggle to see him being a success at any of the top 7 or 8
-
Graham Potter is a Claude Puel type. Lots of possession without creating a lot. His Brighton team were effective but also pretty dull. De Zerbi has completely transformed the same group of players to become a much better attacking team
-
He should be one of the first out the door this summer. The thought of him being made captain makes me want to vomit. Awful, awful player
-
This. Good captains and leaders don't allow standards to slip in the way he's suggesting they have
-
Presumably Wilcox will know Vieira very well from their time at City's academy
-
Not most, but definitely would have beaten ours
-
A team picked to stay in the game for an hour and then hope the subs can win it
-
McCarthy, KWP, ABK, Salisu/DCC, Perraud, Lavia, JWP, Alcaraz, Sulemana, S.Armstrong, Onuachu. It really isn't that complicated
-
I'm afraid I have zero faith in him to get it right second time round. He spent months and months evaluating Jones and was even prepared to pay millions in compensation to get him, despite him being so utterly hopeless. I struggle to believe the next manager can be worse than Jones, but I'm still worried about who he comes up with
-
Everyone knows he's miles out of his depth and should be sacked, but at a minimum he should be told he's no longer doing the media interviews and press conferences. It's embarrassing the club every time he opens his mouth
-
My prediction: Bazunu Bree Lyanco Bednarek Salisu Perraud JWP Lavia Elyounoussi Armstrong Adams Lose 3-0

This is why you shouldn't pay too much attention to players' opinions. You end up sacking a manager that took a team to an 11th place finish with Vestergaard, Bednarek and Stephens as his centre backs and you replace him with some silly, overly aggressive lower league manager with an inferiority complex who would be better suited to managing Portsmouth in the third division than managing Southampton in the PL. And paying over 10 million in order to do it -
I'm struggling to remember us having a player who looked this bad so consistently and yet continued to get games. He's one of the worst signings we've ever made
-
Time will tell if he is capable of stepping up to the PL, but what I find quite depressing about this is that clearly our owners and CEO see him being a good fit because they view us as the Luton Town of the PL. That alone is very worrying. We obviously can't expect to compete with the top 7 or 8, but our history over the last 30 years suggests we should have expectations to be solid PL team, and not as some minnows who should just feel grateful to be here
-
I don't see many 30 million pound strikers wanting to sign for us in January when we're in the bottom 3 with a complete nobody as manager
-
Perraud - 11 million for working hard Elyounoussi - 15 million for working hard A.Armstrong- 15 million for working hard I know prices are constantly increasing but these have been poor signings. We should expect a lot more from players that cost 8 figure sums, even in this inflated market
-
Really? So you don't think those clubs have significantly better attacking options than us? I'd swap our attack in a heart beat for Villa's. Wolves have injuries but when fit they have much stronger options as well. Do you not think Gordon, Gray, Calvert-Lewin, Maupay, Onana, McNeil are stronger than what we've got? We had a decent window defensively but are in the bottom 3 or 4 clubs in the league in terms of attacking options which is costing us. Even on Saturday when we were poor we still had enough chances in the second half to win the game, but Adams missed a 1v1 and Armstrong, as usual, was hopeless in front of goal. What an awful player he is, unbelievable that the club thought he was worth 15 million.
-
We don't have the attacking players to "blitz" anyone, particularly up against what is now an experienced Everton back line. We had a very good window in addressing our defensive frailties, but we still have one of the weakest set of attacking players in this league. Supporters need to be a bit more realistic with their expectations when you've got the likes of Adam Armstrong and Elyounoussi in your 18 every week
-
When isn't he pleased with himself?
-
Because he's 20 years old, playing his first season in the PL and playing in a poor team
-
You must be confusing him with Adam Armstrong
