I've often wondered if all the players that are slated as being bad are only bad in the system imposed on the team by Martin. You don't really need flair players or players who can conjure up a piece of magic now and then. As long as their first touch is reasonable and they can pass a ball 5 yards then they're in. I do find it interesting that some of the players we labelled as not good enough for our team have blossomed elsewhere in a different system.

Pompey... it's a bit nearer to Brighton too

Given the current style and level of play I think we’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t at the moment. By that I mean if we do happen to be promoted because the manager seems unable to adapt his style of play no matter what players we manage to bring in like this season he will get found out pretty easily. I shudder to think what some of the top teams and managers would do to us. That’s the damned if we do. The damned if we don’t is if we don’t get promoted playing the same style under RM when the loaners and more gifted players depart for greener pastures. We supposedly have one of the best squads in the championship but we still can’t make it work. Imagine trying goal area tippy tappy with even less capable players than we have at the moment. I don’t doubt that RM is a very decent fellow, but that doesn’t make a capable football manager. IMO he has been found out latterly this season and his limitations have been laid bare for all to see.

The way things are going it saddens me to say I don't think we're going to have a lot of choice about that.
-
I want to hear him say I'm not good enough to manage at this level, I resign. Inept, in denial, one trick pony.
-
Until teams found out how easy it was to play through us and the manager refused to change his system.
-
And when was the last time they demonstrated that?
-
And Bazunu doesn't? Bloody hell. Can't stop a shot to his left, can't deal with crosses, first touch is terrible in the goal area tippy tappy stakes, need I go on?
-
What, like the keeper? I’m gone….
-
Probably about the same as a Bazunu error leading to a goal.
-
I'm undoubtedly in a minority of one but I always thought McCarthy was a pretty good shotstopper. It's when he had to play the system of tippy tap across the box that's when it found him out. I believe it was partly because of this that RM didn't fancy him.

Because for some reason we need to moan and need a target for this. We would probably all go crazy if it was a perfect world supporting Saints. Nothing to moan about? Nooooooooo.........
-
Not quite what I said but certainly to use your quaint way of putting it as far as automatic promotion goes, which at one stage was well within our grasp, we certainly is fucked innit.
-
Yep, we did win a few.... until opposing managers did what they were paid for and found out how it wasn't that hard to play against us.
-
Could have cut and pasted this so many times this season, that's the disappointment
-
Surely once a system breaks down and ceases to get results it has to be tweaked. If your manager cannot/ will not do this then he ceases to be of value as a manager. It's all very well being evangelical about a certain way of playing but results count not the amount of times your team makes a successful sideways 5 yard pass.
-
....how many from a keeper who has a blind spot on his left?
-
Alright, I'll say it...just hope we don't end up hanging on to Pompey's coattails...
-
Just seen the goals conceded, 2/3 GB's left again. i'm convinced he has a problem on that side.
-
Whether or not you have played football in your lives It does not detract from the fact that Bazunu is not a good goalkeeper at the moment and has cost as points at crucial times. Even someone as evangelical as you in his defence can not credibly argue that one.
-
They're sure as hell going to have to watch him from set pieces.
-
Moore is ominously good in the air but he does seem to fall over a lot...
-
Bednarek subbed after 78 v Wales . Doesn't look like an injury so potentially good news for us for Friday The way the game is going I was a bit worried he might be playing 120 minutes.
-
It's a bit concerning that we've now got a couple of weeks with nothing to moan about.

I'm not sure what Rothwell brings to the party in a total football sense but boy he can certainly leather a ball straight and true.
