Downes finally in will be a great way to start week alongside offloading a couple from deadwood pile. 7 points from 9 especially having played Norwich who look a tidy outfit, a decent return too, encouraging through the chaos. In two minds re Che, If he won't sign a new contract, I guess £15m represents good business especially if club have a replacement in mind. I like Che, he is the perfect championship player, strong, bullying defender type, but he does miss sitters too. Arma looking like he is revelling under Martin, if he goes on a run, could be a golden asset. 10 days to go, I am strangely calm, it maybe wrong, but I just get the impression if we sell any of the 4 attracting bids, we have a readymade replacement in line. That might be the wrong opinion, but we look like a side who are having fun this season, so hopefully will be an attractive option for a player looking to have a successful season with promotion as the massive prize.

I agree, but not entirely sure, they expect or expected all the top players to leave. I think it is an ever evolving beast, and RM is spot on when he says the side won't look anything like the SW side at start of September. They will still expect to get promoted especially after replacements come in, but they can't truly know how new side will gel together. Wouldn't see that as betrayal, but get where you are coming from

Said the same thing on twitter last night. Fully expecting KWP, NT, ABK, CA and KS to get sold but as far as I am concerned, if they aren't in in 100%, get rid! Big wages too are great to get off books! We might not come straight back up, but we will be way more united as a club and better equipped to deal with Premier league if we get back! Brighton business model just works and I can see us copying it down the road, pretty sure the owner doesn't like losing money for fun! Also, think, the replacements and youngsters, Ballard def for one will enjoy the season, who knows, we might be a surprise package. RM will end up with a squad 100% behind him, and that can only be a good thing.

After reading a few of the posts this morning especially Pilchards observations. It really wouldn't surprise me if there were serious wholesale changes. Lavia, KWP, Adams, Alcaraz, Smallbone etc all have a price. I am trying to keep a balanced view here though, these supposed top players took us down, many downed tools. We are reaping serious money for them. I do rate JW though and feel like we actually have a plan moving forward however long it takes which is way different from previous seasons! This relegation has been a few years in the making! I am looking forward to September but like Martin said, this side is going to look way different, but that's not to say it wont be a solid side. I am hoping it will be a side that is relaxed with Martin's ethos and style. I am also sure, there will be some solid, decent players coming in! My only worry is not being able to move on the garbage, I would be tempted to offload them for nothing just to free up space to regroup with hungry players. (There again, it's not my money)

So many ifs and buts as you say, but re the start of season, I do feel that Martin's hands are tied somewhat until window finishes. If I remember rightly, Burnley didn't get off to a flyer either. Fans are fickle across the board and I agree there will be unrest if we start badly. My view is that we have a good balance in the side now, some exciting youngsters and a definite style. If we also keep JWP, we have experience. The window, can't shut soon enough, but I just get a feeling that some of the players here, Arma, Smallbone, Tella have a point to prove. Would love to start with an entertaining win tonight but won't be getting niggly if we don't

Ok, we haven't seen a lot of movement this window as yet, but if we can get off to a flyer with our best possible 11, inc Lavia , JWP etc, I will take it all day long! Feeling quietly enthused about the set up now, no word from RA which is a blessing, one man. JW, seemingly making the decisions and being transparent in a good way ( These are our prices, if you don't like it, look elsewhere approach) and a manager who at least believes in his method of football. Add to that, the players who will be staying seem to be buying into that methodology, I feel more positive than I have done in years. Tomorrow will be a test of that positivity. We definitely need a poacher even if Arma does start finding the net, we will need a replacement for JWP, Lavia covered by WS and to a certain extent CA I would suggest. Martin will inevitably get replacements in who he feels he can work with so another positive. Long way to go and there will undoubtedly be curve balls before end of window, but can't remember looking forward to a season more.

If Tella goes, I reckon it will be a last min deal unfortunately! Regardless of that, Burnley will forever be the Cringe club now! Problem is all clubs get them, we had ours when Wilde et al were looking at club, all those posts on the Saints forum, trying to be a fan. There was a Tony something as well constantly posting, bottom line that had no chance of getting club or a pot to piss in. Proper Chairmen/owners stay schtum and get on with business in a professional manner.

Not entirely sure what's more embarrassing, grown men in a fake circle of trust or a Football club chairman posting a slogan about a player they don't own! Bring back the Keegan days when we found out when the local paper printed it! Even the janitor at the Potters Heron wouldn't have had the means to get the news out back then.

Wholeheartedly agree

My definite keeps for the Championship season would be Stephens, Sulemana, Alcaraz, Edozie, Tella and Tino, We have Charles potentially to slot in alongside Charley although I just have a feeling JWP might stay. We have Ballard potentially playing a more pivotal role this season alongside SAA, and Doyle, Manning at the back, I would almost be tempted to keep DCC as I am sure we haven't seen the best of him. Here, we have pace, creativity and the ability to play Martin's game. But as alluded to by Glenn on TSP, we need a player who will actually score, Charley being the only player who is intent on shooting! I do think we need an out and out poacher, (AA may prove to be that man but serious doubts) and we also need a decent, reliable keeper. if JWP goes (Lavia def going) we will need a Grimes type midfielder to add to Charley and Charles. Che can go for me, always rated him but never seen so many misses when it would have been easier to score. So keeper, striker without doubt and a decent holding midfielder and we are almost there.......for

Following Saints for the past 48 years does give you a sense of perspective. Being a Cancerian, I wear my heart on my sleeve so to say, it's been an emotional ride is somewhat of an understatement. Witnessing wins like the 3-2 at home to Liverpool at the Dell, when Nick Holmes scored at the start of the second half, before Lawrie had even come out (He was walking down the touchline, he then turned round and went back in lol) was a highlight. It epitomised what I used to love about the club, Great spirit, and always able to give it a good go against the big boys. That ethos has been lost along the way recently and relegation was something we needed in my opinion to reset properly. Re the window, JWP has been a stalwart for us, but as has been mooted, he's late 20's and deserves to stay in PL playing alongside better players. Without Oriel, he was also way less effective for us last season and on many occasions slowed play down and nullified any attacking threat we had (just my opinion). Alongside the creative best in a decent side, his ability to hustle is second to none and his set piece ability world class. I just don't think he is the lynchpin we need esp in championship. I also think Lavia will go, too good not to, but with Charles added and Charley hopefully staying, I like the younger more dynamic feel moving forward. Have a good feeling we are moving in the right direction. Going back to JWP, I hope he gets his move and it will at least give me some interest in watching MOTD on a Saturday night. He will always be part of the Saints family

Went to British Open at St Andrews last year, got chatting to taxi driver about Aribo!!I I was saying how I thought he would b a great signing for us, he was pissing himself laughing saying how he would drive him down himself! Couldn't believe we wanted to pay money for him, saying he would take it round players, look quite talented, then fall over ball everytime 😂!! Always listen to Joe le taxi
