  1. I thought the rumour was started on this board using newspaper cuttings from 2006 and then recycled by the Echo the next day
  2. There used to be a time when we kicked six bells out of the away supporters to vent our frustrations. Now all we can do is blame the board (did anyone know who the board was in Ted Bates days?). Trouble is they don't fight back so we stop going to games (that'll show 'em eh?). Then totally unconnected events sees a change in ownership and hey presto the 'we got rid of him cries' come out. You couldn't make it up could you.
  3. Thankfully it is the board / owners that choose to stick or change manager. Some fans will always moan. Although I don't think Wotte is that bad, I expect new owners to appont their own man. If the fans don't get behind that apppointment and support the team - don't expect anything spectacular.
  4. Not to mention the other families....
  5. Agreed but does not that just show he is human. Haven't we all let off on this forum over the last year and then regretted what we said?
  6. Rupert Lowe tried to get us to work within our means Crouch took a gamble to get us back to the promised land. Wilde was a true fan who tried to do his bit but was poorly advised They all gave their best under difficult circumstances and have each have more business acumen than all of us put together. We need to move on!
  7. Happy to be proved wrong but they do a lot of charity do's and I believe it is expected that you generally still have to pay for their services. We tried to get a local Groundforce TV celeb to open a fete a while back and were quoted a sum in excess of £1k.
  8. Not a bad thing to cancel. I thought £15k would have broken us even at least but - sadly - I suspect players, and esp Lawrie / Osman would want their cut too.
  9. I appreciate the sentiment but last time I looked we lived in a democracy with freedom of speech (otherwise this forum would have closed years ago!). So the answer is not to read it if it offends you. What is more annoying are the 'usual suspects' who read it and, rather than articulate an opposing argument, descend into personal abuse. In fairness though it says a whole lot more about them than Lowe, Wilde, Crouch et al.
  10. We need to build the team around Gillett. Our very own Billy Bremner!
  11. Clearly Liptak's loan was up which was why he went back but perhaps Wotte sees an opportunity for a permanent signing. Seems a step down for Liptak though... Wotte will stay. Of that I am sure but if we have new owners you cannot blame them for wanting to apponit 'their own man'. In which case I hope they will retain Wotte as the academy manager (otherwise they will have to pay him off).
  12. Fair enough. Credit where credit is due ;~)
  13. Maybe not but when I saw the thread title - I just knew you were the poster !
  14. A reasonable point and most of the critics are close to the truth. But the guy was a legend in the 80's. Sometimes its better to take a low profile but his love for the club obviously makes this difficult - particularly when people keep asking him for help / quotes.
  15. In broad terms this site has become a pretty pointless place to visit. GM wants you to think he is very clever kid but I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions.
  16. Well said but to be fair - if there were astute business heads about would they really be spending time tapping away on a bulletin board? There are a few on here that seems to be surgically attached to their keyboard and although some of their comments are niaive in the extreme I don't think you can doubt that they love the Saints.
  17. Call me a cynic but the tenuous connection between the bank manager who approved the loan and Leon Crouch troubles me. Could it be that an attempt to derail Lowe ended up derailing the club. Surely Crouch was not that stupid...

    Dave Jones

Before yet another crucify Lowe thread starts can we remind people that it was the banks (on who we were dependent for financing on the new stadium) that forced the boards hand on the gardening leave. Dave Jones bears no grudge with Lowe for that and felt more aggrieved that society should conspire to effectively punish a man when the case was not even proven. I think he may have had a grudge about Hoddle though. And Mrs Jones could certainly could pack a punch according to Lowe.
  19. Kick 'em whilst they're down why don't we. And then we are surprised that no one wants to come here.
  20. ... or Sweden, I don't think anyone is confused in Southampton (unless you are)
  21. I knew there was a reason I don't post very often
  22. To be honest I really don't care for Lowe or the argument you are making. A poor performing team draws low crowds. Success will fill the stadium whether Lowe was there or not. Do you honestly think anyone is bothered whether you are part of that success?
  23. Can't disagree with that but Surman was born locally, went to Bitterne Park school and loves Saints. He has the potential to be a Premiership player and the potential to become as loyal as MLT. I just hope he wants to go because if not, and we are letting him go cheap, it does not say much for any youngster wanting to come here.
  24. Good for you. Can we move on now please?
  25. Does that not make it worse. Weknow how good he can be but he cannot be arsed to put the effort in week in week out. McD's goal rate is less impressive but I do see a player who is more consistent and will clearly be a better player in time.
