Saints 1 Norwich 0 - For Once We Score A Late Winner!
Mowgli replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
Me too. Lots of smiling faces tonight as we left the ground. In truth though, for many, that was cos they didn't have to stay an extra half hour. -
It was the players idea. The same players you go and watch every week because you claim to be a Saints fan. The players that want to improve the atmosphere at the games because the fans spend so much time moaning that no one has time to cheer them on.

It's a different game but the fans are the same. My first season I could not believe the abuse that players like Stokes, Fisher and Melia got from the fans. A lot of moaning idiots around me. Wasn't even sure I wanted to stick around but I did. Even the legend that is Francis Benali was held in less regard than JWP has is in recent weeks (incidentally, I'd rather see a team of JWP's in the side than the likes of Mane, Clyne, Wanyama and Alderweireld who clearly just see us as a stepping stones to a 'real' club). The lack of internet meant we really did not know anything of the club behind the scenes, And frankly we didn't care (personally speaking I still don't) I think Lawrie Mac changed the club big time. Most players stayed for 10 years or more under Ted Bates but LM created a team of journeymen reaching the end of their career, that won us the cup. He also was the first to delve into the European market. The turnover has been significantly higher ever since. Right now, we are about to lose the last of the players that was with us five years ago. Quite some change! That said, I think we are starting to revert to our former glory. There are some really good youngsters coming through and JWP, Reed, Sims, McQueen and Gape have already been here around 10 years. I think the youngsters will get a real kick about sticking together to win major honours with the first team but time will tell. It will take a while to get there and if we lose a few fans along the way who demand instant success then so be it. Not a bad thing.

Lol. When you agree with alpine it's really time to go out into the car park and have a word with yourself.

It really depends on your mood when you log on. I never come on these days if I'm feeling wound up so comments rarely get to me. Similarly I've been guilty of a carelessly worded post that has attracted criticism when no offence was intended. Sadly it is the nature of social media these days. I use it less and less.

I'm with View from the top... what is it that people can't grasp? When the ground was built, the Chapel - the whole of the chapel - was designated the kop end. I bought season tickets there on that basis. But the vocal support CHOSE to be right next to the away fans so the Chapel became a library. Like many others, I moved to the Northam for the atmosphere. You will not move the away fans because of the location of the police CCTV room. On balance, having a vocal presence either side of the away fans works pretty well. Anyway, I'm sure we'll only have to wait a couple of days before the question is raised again for the millionth time.

Gutted for Morgan. First for it not working out at Man U. Second for ending up at Everton. Hardly progress is it?

Journeyman???? FFS. Had never played for another club when he scored that goal. Over 200 appearances
-
Except he wasn't

Spot on ;-)

It's a minor injury. Won't need to be nursed back as he can carry on training. Puel expects him to be playing again in 3 weeks

Rotation works when you have a squad large enough to accommodate it. Forget the crap about playing regularly helps your game. Playing every week improves your game. The only reason we rotate is that we are playing twice a week. Leicester did not rotate because they were not distracted by other competitions and frankly they did not have a big enough squad of quality players. We do. OK, many will disagree because they like to run our players down but in truth we have around 20 players who can compete effectively in the EPL. We also have a manager who has the confidence in there players to rotate them and make sure they are all reasonably match fit, play regularly and are happier. Example: Yosh did not always perform brilliantly last season because he spent to much time collecting splinters in his bum. Different player this year. Agreed Romeu and VVD do not rotate as much because - presumably - fitness analysis has shown minimal effect on muscles and stamina etc. I'm sure there is a science behind it to a degree. If you listen to all the pundits (generally ex footballers) they talk about the luxury of rotation not the horror of it. Every European coach coming into the EPL is doing it now. It's here to stay. Let's get used to it.

Perhaps Puel should follow Koeman and demand new players

Thank God someone understands it -
Oh the irony... You could have saved yourself typing by just saying if you don't agree with me you're not a proper fan FFS. I was there at the Dell. For many years. And your memory is deceiving you. As today, we beat some of the best teams. We lost to some of the worst teams. We played good football. We played dross. We had players passing through on their way to better clubs. We had donkeys. Occasionally some outstanding loyalty. We are Southampton. We take the good with the bad and choose to remember the good. We're in a bad run. We'll get through it.

Fair enough. It's just that we've seen a few declare up front that saints are a place where they can 'complete the next stage of their development' (before moving to another club) and I had personally thought Hojbjerg fell into this category. Honestly not so sure now. Sure, in five or six years money may come into it but right now we should enjoy his commitment. The only person who ever really indicated long term commitment and then sodded off was Lallana who, whilst I am starting to admire him again, gets all the abuse he deserves when he comes to St. Mary's Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

A touch insensitive given the content of the interview. Did you even read it?
-
Apparently Mane tried to dance with Koeman. Perfectly caught on camera. Pity there's not a vid of it
-
Have you been away?
-
I'm sure all Jose is waiting for is for his picture to appear on the forum header and then he'll be happy to stay.
-
You know we're at home right? 3-0 I think. Players are starting to realise how to get the best out of J Rod and Boufal getting better every game.
-
It is but is it the striker we need or someone to put the ball in the right place. Quickly.

What a miserable bunch of fans we have. The players have an idea to create an atmosphere that the fans have so far failed to provide and all we get is a Statler and Waldorf style response. They want to play in front of passionate fans. If they don't get it here, don't moan if they go somewhere else to find it.
-
Are you sure that's not the Arsenal fans? They are totally convinced he is a product of their academy....
-
I can't make up my mind. All these Saints fans slating him and all these TV pundits saying he his a much improved player since his transfer to the south coast and how he was the best player on the pitch on Thursday. Hmmm...
