Firstly, allow me to introduce myself. I'm a 70 year old Coventry City fan, but have massive affection for the Saints. Why? Well, I spent 8 happy years living on the Isle of Wight until moving back to the Midlands 5 years ago. During my time on the IoW, I met many Saints fans (as well as - ahem - Pompey!), and as the Saints were my 'local' team, I always followed their fortunes. Believe me, I was as sick as anyone to see their demise finalise a while ago.
Many years ago, I was a steward at Highfield Rd (CCFC's old stadium), and well remember some great old tussles between City and Saints.
My two favourite players for the Saints were Mick Channon and (Super) Matt LeTissier, a player who should have gained more England caps in my opinion! He was outstanding!
Anyway, what I really wanted to say is, I know relegation is hard to accept. Cov have been there a few times since dropping out of the Premier League! But believe me, the Championship is a tough league, but I have every confidence that the Saints will bounce back!
We (CCFC) have the play-off final against Luton on Saturday, and about 90% of us think we'll win, but I won't be happy until the final whistle! But if we fail in our bid to get back to the Premier League, I will look forward so much to playing the Saints yet again!
All I'll say now is, keep the faith! Don't feel down-hearted about the Championship, and get Southampton FC back to where I believe you belong! YOU CAN DO IT!
All the best,
BazCov
