  1. Okay, I concede anything in life is possible and NEVER is obviously too final a word to use for something that "could" happen. IMO it is simply unbelievably inconceivable that we would break into the cartel that exists. I've left the door ajar there for that smidgen of possibility. I will also concede it more likely we could flirt with the top 8 and possibly grab a European trip or two but even that will take oodles of cash... I dunno, plucking a figure out of thin air... £50m for starters?? Yeah £50m sounds like a good wedge... Over to you NC.
  2. Straying slightly off topic... Agreed. Which is why, and I say this with no great pleasure, we will NEVER be a Champions League club or indeed break into the top 6 IMO. All that talk last week really was ridiculous. I don't believe for a minute NC believes this to be true deep down anyway. He has one of the biggest ego's going seemingly but he must realise he cannot invent history, success, stature not to mention untold riches from thin air to compete with ManU, Arse, Spurs, City, Chelsea. Having said all that and going back on topic... we are as guilty as the bigger clubs of poaching young players from clubs smaller than ourselves... food chain and all that I suppose.
  3. Only watched second half... have to say well played WBA. I thought they were stronger, more incisive and possessed real pace and power up front. Unfortunately our usual tactics were nullified by them and sadly we seemed to lack any real alternative with the exception of the easy high ball. You can't win them all. Here's an idea though... lets try and be WBA before we try and be Chelsea eh?
  4. Nothing wrong with ambition... I won't hold my breath for the £100m squad investment required to get us anywhere near ManU, Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Spurs... I can already hear Lawrenson banging on about us needing European football to justify the investment should we go big this summer...
  5. I hate the HTH sarcastic comment but your reply to those super fans so deserved one!
  6. Good point that judging by the commentary on here guys, nice one.
  7. How long left?
  8. Agreed. Draw from the Swansea is decent in my book.
  9. Sounds a bit carp today chaps. Swans playing well or Saints not at the races today??
  10. Keep the updates coming guys... Relying on you today as I'm out and about :-)
  11. I often read other fan's forums as I know many on here do. I enjoy reading KUMB and have been doing so post-match this afternoon. I appreciate a few on here got over excited and were predicted drubbings etc (never going to happen). However. a fair few were also trying to bring some perspective. They are generally a decent bunch but I get slightly irked at anyone else other than pompey calling us scummers... Bournemouth do it and Brighton started too as well. We only have one rival. We don't care about any other team. Pre-match banter is all it is. Get over yourselves KUMB if you think we give two ****s about you! Most of us don't.. sorry about that :-) I do love all the cockney/Danny Dyer speak though... "muggy" being my personally favorite!
  12. A fair result in the end for me. I don't think we were at our recent fluent best and a lot of credit has to go to West Ham for that. They perhaps sacrificed their own performance to try and nullify us and I thought they did that extremely well. They got men behind the ball and made it very difficult for us to play through the lines. I don't think West Ham necessarily offered too much going forwards as a result of their game-plan but they showed flashes of quality and on another day could well of nicked that one. They certainly weren't all "hoof" like our crowd seemed to enjoy intimating. Indeed, we got it forward quickly just as much. However, we arguably had some of the better possession. They had the threat from set-pieces especially corners. I was glad they put in two duffers towards the end that didn't beat the near-post. I thought Ramirez was his usual self, flashes of inspiration and then utter garbage. The goal was very composed and tidy but the free-kicks, which resulted in him being hauled off, were awful. Rickie was well marshalled by West Ham's center-backs who I thought were brilliant. A real wall to have to go through at times. They were busy in midfield too and worked very hard for their manager and fans. Any point in the Prem is a good point and against a well organised team like West Ham has to be respected. I perhaps think Ponch's annoyance in hauling off Ramirez and replacing him with Punch probably nullified the threat of Rodders who looked a right handful down the right for the minutes he was on... very direct and obviously brimming with confidence. Oh and finally, a word about the conditions. Fair play to both teams on any sort of game as that wind seemed pretty bad at times. My MotM goes to Cork. I thought he looked very composed when many around him were the complete opposite, especially towards the end of the first half.
  13. Well done saints!!!!!
  14. Fox at left mid?
  15. Shaw ... World at his feet
  16. 'Kin hell... Push up boys!!! Chelsea coming on strong.
  17. **** off Wigan!!!
  18. Yep. The support and the second half performance was superb... ManU-esque the way you felt we were going to score... Well ManU-esque right up until we shot ourselves in the bloody foot!!
  19. This Forren fella better be the new John Terry coz I think we're one commanding center back short of a good team! Great first half from the boys... settled them down now Poncho and lets go at them again. Shaw is making Glenn Johnson look a bit old!!
  20. Hi all, Not sure if this should go in here or Technology (mods please move if so). I was looking for MOTD2 as a geordie at work said there was some good analysis spoken on there last night. Anyway, Googling MOTD2 takes you to iplayer which doesn't show it! More Googling throws up this cool site: http://www.motdgoals.com/ And the Saints related bit is that we have some recent full games on there. If like me you want to perhaps keep these on your hard drive etc etc: http://www.motdgoals.com/2013/02/epl-full-match-hd720p-southampton-v-manchester-city-9th-february-2013/ Not sure about legalities or copyright etc etc. Just thought I would share this, as I say, please move if not in the correct place.
  21. Delivered like his song says... And them some!!! My lads hero!
  22. Oh yeah... Kinda lost in the result but that was the ton up for SRL???? I know a fair few were in the lower divisions but what a success. Best £1m the club has ever spent in the modern era.
  23. No knee jerk from me. By the sounds of it we performed well up there. However, they had too much for us on the day. I think they made 7 changes from their Europa league win and still looked too strong for us. They are now showing they are a top 8 side with the players they have added to their squad. Something to aspire to. I am not downbeat in the slightest. A quick look over at their match thread shows we aren't too far away. Very complimentary from most of them. A proper football club with knowledgable supporters. Now lets batter old twitch next week as they are truly awful and shouldn't be any match for our first 11 playing their A game. Newcastle today were too strong and frankly too good even with a little help from us on a couple of goals. Well played.
  24. The new Foals album is pretty damn good... They've definitely up'd their game. Very infectious stuff!
  25. Good thread this one after some real gash on here in recent times. Enjoying the tactical analysis from our lot. What's interesting is that the longer MP has worked with the players the longer they have sustained this pressing tactic. Obvious I suppose but lends credence as to why against city we pretty much bossed the game where as against Utd/Wigan it was two good halves in each game. Moyes obviously changed things in our game against them but that again was most likely our lot running out of gas or not "switched on" fully to MP's full tactics of how to regain the initiative once a team changed the way they are playing. Another two weeks on the training ground should see him introduce more themes and tactics. We're hopefully only seeing the first set of instructions being passed on by the coaches with hopefully more detail being added gradually. Keep up the good work!
