I don’t see how you can say that and god forbid he’s still our number one next season. He’s the worst keeper in Europe by some distance when it’s comes to shot stopping. It’s not even close. I agree he doesn’t make many absolute howlers but he doesn’t make great saves. He doesn’t deal with crosses well, he flaps and is often found out of position meaning he concedes soft goals. He’s a nothing keeper just a bloke in goal. Objectively in a season of self inflicted disasters then his playing the entire season as our number one is right up there. You put Forster in goal and we would have had several points more.
-
Agreed he often finds him in the wrong position meaning he’s not able to make the save that should be made. next season we can give ourselves 10 points by getting a decent experienced keeper. That should be the first item on the agenda for whoever is appointed
-
He doesn’t cope well with high balls, he doesn’t save I don’t know about 10 but certainty 5. He doesn’t cope well with crosses and doesn’t save shots but he doesn’t make many absolute howlers so perhaps that’s why he plays but he is the worst first choice I can recall in 40 years of supporting Saints. It’s difficult to know what his level is really as he doesn’t really exhibit any particular goalkeeping attributes. He’s just a bloke in goal
-
Same dynamic as the first goal against palace. He is a very big reason we are going down and yet he still plays each game.
-
May as well get the thread warmed up…..

Bazunu is the pits
-
The removal of lavia was suicidal really
-
He doesn’t make many absolute howlers and maybe that’s why he is still picked. It’s more conceding goals like the first against palace, the one against WHU and the one against Leeds where you’d expect a decent keeper to do a lot better. Seems really odd we have persisted all season and had we had an alternative we would be at least a few points better off and still in the mix. I hope we don’t persist next season with this as it been a major reason for our demise and the goals aren’t any smaller in the championship

We have bought and play plenty of rubbish that’s over 21
-
He should have punched it. Seems clear enough to me. Accept it might have gone straight to an opposition player but you take the option that gets the ball farthest from the danger zone. He’s a poor premiership keeper at the moment and although people say he’s got potential I don’t see what they are basing that on. We don’t score many sp to have the worst keeper in Europe when it’s comes to shot stopping is a recipe for relegation…..
-
I stand corrected ! Quite an accolade - the only way is up I suppose
-
Somebody posted a stat a few weeks ago showing that in terms of shots saved he’s one of the worst in Europe.
-
Had he punched it then the strength of his wrists would not have mattered. The decision not to punch was a mistake
-
He should have punched it out of the box. He concedes a lot of weird goals that are a product of poor positioning and/ or decision making
-
Just watched the highlights what was he trying to do prior to the first goal ? just weird. Sort of thing you see in Sunday league
-
Thought the West Ham performance last night showed how poor we were in the game on Sunday. WHU were poor on Sunday but we were so tentative we just gifted them the three points when it was a must win game. The whole approach of the club is wrong but it does seem if a team sits deep we cannot score from open play
-
I agree - you could see WH were very tentative in that first twenty minutes but instead of going for it we were happy to play passive crap football and be happy at 0-0. We seem incapable of setting the tempo and taking the game to opponents unless we are behind and by then it’s generally too late as we rarely score from open play. on a positive note bazanu seems to be improving and less of a liability than a couple of months ago
-
The commentator on sky said we have scored the lowest number of goals at this stage of the season in our history. Can’t be bothered to check if that’s correct but if true then it’s sums up why we are going down and if you take our free kicks it would be truly horrendous. Think defensively we are ok but part of that is because we don’t commit men forward and spend large swathes of the game passing it around to no effect and boring the shit out of everyone. We are also so slow and ponderous in the transition and it just makes for a really difficult watch. Guess we are down now and will be cut adrift after the Arsenal game
-
This is just awful - WH are shit but we just don’t look like scoring. It’s so pedestrian. Just depressing really
-
Least number of goals at this stage of any season in our history West Ham look poor but we are so passive. Dreadful stuff
-
Seems the obvious team if we want to try and win it and score some goals
-
You can’t play both diallo and moi and be creative - again we look stodgy
-
Perhaps the solution is to put Tall Paul in goal for his distribution. He might make the odd save as well
-
This tells a thousand stories. His stats are by some distance the worst in the division when it’s comes to preventing goal. It’s not even close ! I get McCarthy isn’t perfect but at least I recall his making saves that were noteworthy amidst the errors. I’m sure we can come up with a decent save or two over the season but I am struggling to think of any. We don’t actually suffer many shots on target but when we do it’s often a goal because he doesn’t prevent goals and that’s a keepers job first and foremost
-
He is a poor keeper - don’t see how anyone can reasonably say otherwise.
