  1. I don’t think 10mil gets you much these days think we paid £12million for Edozie and he has been a poor acquisition
  2. it’s not ‘immaterial’ if one is better than the other mccarthy is a decent keeper and in the time he’s been back as no 1 has on the whole done a decent job.
  3. Does seem odd to have signed two thirds of the blades forward line and who went down without a whimper. You wonder why the club thought this season there would be a different output from those same players in the same league All a bit depressing really as we are clearly going to struggle to compete at this level with the current squad. including our final two friendlies we have scored 1 goal in 4 games….
  4. We look ok defensively but I think that’s because we don’t provide an offensive offering going to be a challenge to stay up with that forward line - it’s very much top end championship and we are crying out for a proper no 9 but we’ve been saying that for two years now
  5. first world problems
  6. bazanu is irelands no 1 so that tells you little
  7. I think that’s a fair assessment. If we want to play out from the back this season then we need another keeper but we don’t have the money to buy someone who is both a decent keeper and good with their feet so we need to be realistic. i’d stick with mccarthy but tell him he’s not required to do something he’s clearly not capable of. If I was a defender in that team i’d be pretty pissed off that you can play really well but be undone by the fact that your keeper is required to piss about with the ball in the box despite not having the ability to execute that strategy. Still feel we need to proper number 9 as well.
  8. we will concede lots of goals like that given the way we play despite whoever is in goal
  9. no it doesn’t
  10. ok and maybe it works out but we have still signed the sheff utd front line
  11. so he scored 4 goals in 29 appearances for sheff utd….
  12. great post !
  13. £65 Million for solanke - jesus christ ? supply and demand i guess but that’s crazy !
  14. goalkeeper and CF remain as big an issue as they were a couple of years ago. let’s hope they can be addressed before the end of the window. think the transfer business elsewhere has been solid enough to date
  15. Good signing for the money
  16. Baz is an outfield player who plays in goal. Confidence plays little part in how crap he is as he doesn’t have the capability to be a premier league or football league keeper for that matter. In the same way that no matter how confident I am, I will never be a premier league striker or brain surgeon. Lets face it if he recovers he’s back as No. 1. Plain as day. I question if there has been a worse first choice keeper in the football league for the past two years.
  17. He’s not played a meaningful amount of football for 2 years so I think when looking at our forward options we should discount him entirely. Looks like a gamble that hasn’t paid off so time to move on and try and claim on the insurance. We need two new strikers.
  18. No ones saying McCarthy dragged us single handedly to promotion but it helped a lot in the playoffs having a competent keeper at championship level who was able to do the basics well and the defence looked so much more comfortable with him there. That’s not necessarily praise for McCarthy more an indictment of how bad Bazanu is.
  19. He did well in the last few games and playing him was a major reason we went up but ultimately he did the job you would expect of a decent keeper. It was such a relief not to have Bazanu in goal and we looked a much better side with McCarthy there for a host of reasons. Anyone with a modicum of footballing nouse could see that and I don’t believe RM and his backroom team is stupid, however if we were serious about replacing Bazanu, now is the time to do it but looks to me that it’s McCarthy as number 1 until Bazanu is back which is a piss poor outcome really if that’s what’s been decided.
  20. He is absolutely abysmal. You only have to look at how much better McCarthy looked in comparison over the last few games. It a reasonable assumption that had he not been injured we would not have gone up. It’s difficult to know what his level is ( none-league?) but when he’s back from injury a season in the lower leagues has to be the best for all concerned. If we are serious about staying up then we can’t be contemplating playing him next season or any season frankly
  21. stating the obvious but donnarumma is some keeper. very ordinary italian side but a keeper like that will win you games
  22. The system is so rigid and he bemoans the absence of philips or a replacement but if so change the system to suit what’s at your disposal. Sometimes crap performances are down to the players and the lack of a decent left back doesn’t help, but it was clear the players were confused as to what they were doing and were at times just getting in each others way. There were two key issues. The absence of a functioning midfield. Can you imagine the carnage if we play Spain ? The second is we don’t have an offensive left side which is pretty crazy for an international tournament where we are supposed to be one of the favourites. Realistically he only has up to two games left as manager so what’s to lose ? We may as well set up to attack and see where that takes us.
  23. That was abysmal. Reminded me of the turnip taylor days but without carlton palmer. There’s no functioning midfield or width on the left and by the end the players didn’t know what day it was. At times there was no one up front and kane seemed to be playing CM. Think a lot of that is down to the coach and the way they set up. It was a shambles really. We need to ditch the TAA experiment and play rice as DM and bellingham as the CM and at least try and get some control and cohesion. Not sure if shaw is fit but we are crying out for him at LB as Trippier offers nothing going forward
  24. Why are England games so tough to watch. Some great players but no cohesion My twopenneth would be to put bellingham alongside Rice, move Foden central and put Cole on the left.
