  1. He has kept to his word :- https://x.com/RupertLowe10/status/1810295583367680073 You would think that Kier (net worth 7-15m ) and Rushi (650m) could match his gesture. So he has earned net £4k after one days work and not even going into the Office.
  2. Chris was famous in his playing days at Villa when he scored all FOUR goals in a 2-2 draw. https://www.theguardian.com/notesandqueries/query/0,,-3362,00.html#:~:text=The game was between Leicester,a number of different clubs. "The game was between Leicester City and Aston Villa, in March 1976. The man who scored all four goals was Chris Nicholl, a Northern Ireland international." Also I believe he scored an own-goal that gave Saints their victory at Villa Park in the 76 Cup. The goal was the ET winning goal but was given to Jim McCalliog. However, I was behind the goal that night (muddy bank behind the goal) and Jim shot took a massive deflection off Chris that left the GK (Burridge) on one knee by the left hand post and the ball travelled slowly towards the other post. As I remember it had enough pace to cross the line but not enough to hit the back of the net. I am sure today with cameras at every game it would have been given as a og. So Chris helped us win the FA Cup in 76
  3. That is a four in a row for ref Thomas Bramall Lost Millwall (H) - ? Pen Lost Fulham (H) 0-2 Lost Grimsby (H) (Fa Cup) - 1-2 - 2 pens, the second was a complete joke, pulling Car's shirt all the way from the half way line and when the ball gets in the GK hands Car "flicks out" with his arm and Thomas Bramall gives the Pen. Lost Forest (H) 0-1 No wonder the Saints players and Russell were not very happy at the end.
  4. I hope they have thought this through. From the information it appears they are going to move the away fans to Blocks 20—27 Family Blocks https://www.tothe92.co.uk/groundguide/southampton.html What are they going to do for Cup Games ? If they give over more of the Chapel (17-19) to away fans then there is an ISSUE with the DISABLED SEATING in that the people in those seats CANNOT SEE if supporters in the lower part of 17-19 stand up. (There is using at least one or two calls per game for Saints supporters to SIT DOWN when there is a chance etc.at that end). The only solution would be to give over part of the Kingsland say Blocks 28-30, but then there is an issue accessing the CONCOURSE, because of the Groundsman entrance. I will NOT be moving to the new Northam Stand because I DO NOT like watching Football looking directly into the Sun (12:00 kick off in winter and the game is UNWATCHABLE).
  5. Jan also went to 8 bookings on Sat https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=72632 IMO a 2 match ban will come in a few weeks. It is important to get Jack up to speed to play 2 games in a few days (Sat/Wed etc) when he gets to 10. Ryan is not far behind on 7 and I expect him to get some stick on Sat from their fans so we may have 2 players that the Manager has worry about.
  6. How about the Dylan song sung by Joan Baez - "Its all over now baby blue" 7th line - "Look out baby, the Saints are comin' through" I played it a few times when we were moving from L1 to PL and the cheats were going the other way
  7. Is this going to be a repeat of the Baby_vvd situation, where they REFUSED point blank to pay £75m.... "we will not pay more than £50m for him" etc .... After we refused to backdown they ended watching every plane flying up from the south coast on Transfer Deadline day. Four months later they came back and offered us the £75m in the Jan Transfer window (that they said THEY WOULD NEVER PAY). That season liverpoo came 2nd behind Man City, the following season (with Baby_vvd) in the team they were top with Man City second. Could they have been top that season if they had paid the correct amount in the summer transfer window ?.
  8. Same old problems that we saw last season under Selles. High risk passing out from the back when half the receiving players DON'T WANT the ball. No movement from the forwards (standing still next to the defenders until the ball comes near them). Defenders marking ZONES not the opposition players. No tracking of runs from the midfield. IMO Martin will be gone by Xmas if he carries on with Selles system
  9. What is "Nice Nigel" doing these days ? He LOVES the club , the fans think he was hard done by in the past. He also knows how to improve / get the best out of a big No9.
  10. You are missing my point. I am not comparing the players I am saying the SYSTEM is wrong for him. It is all down to our clueless coach who doesn't know how to use a big No9. Yesterday he put him up front on his own and kept the 2 wide players 30 YARDS away from him on either wing. Those 2 players should have been within 10 yards of him (playing very narrow) with Saints quickest player making a run behind him for any flick ons, as per Koeman in those 2nd half of that game. I believe there is a player in Onuachu if used correctly. The problem is our clueless coach. Remember he came in this season under Ralph and in the 1st home game of the season v Leeds we started with a back 3 and they were marking ZONES for leeds first goal (45 secs into highlights https://www.southamptonfc.com/news/2022-08-13/highlights-southampton-leeds-united-premier-league-2022 ) while the one leeds forward was allowed to run across them without being marked. After 70mins we changed to a back 4, Ralph PREFERED system and managed to get a point from the game. That should have been the LAST TIME we played 3 at the back but we were still trying it against forest (for 81 mins) on 4 Jan. Don't write off Onuachu yet. The way Selles uses him we would need 13 players on the pitch just to match their 11
  11. I don't think Selles is good enough to have a Plan B. His comments to Jacob after the city game show that https://twitter.com/J_Tanswell/status/1644784173293486080?cxt=HHwWgIC-1befudMtAAAA He only views Paul as a tall No9 who plays down the middle with his back to goal. Somebody should show him the highlights to the game against liverpoo in Koemans 2nd season, where they played us off the park in the 1st half and were lucky to be only 2 down at the break. (a number of sides Brentford, palace .. etc) play that way now. Pick off the poor pass in midfield and counter attack with PACE and POWER. Ronald changed the way we played in the 2nd half, he pulled Pelle deeper and put 3 or 4 players (Davis, JWP, Long etc around him (10 yards away) and pushed our quickest player (Mane) up on their last defender. Liverpoo were still expecting us to try and play through them and pick us off as they had done in the 1st half, but we played "Route One" into Pelle's chest and then played short passes to the players around him. The highlights are here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBdxVWSUBRY The 2nd goal :- Fonte bypasses the midfield and their press, straight up to Pelle in a deep position with 4 players playing very narrow around him, is what I'm talking about. We should have a Plan B for 60+ mins in a game with Tall Paul playing deeper and 3 or 4 around him, playing route one football into his chest etc. However I don't think Selles is good enough to see what Ronald did in 2016.
  12. Can somebody suggest to the club that they get Rickie Lambert to come down for a whole week and work with Che, or at least one day a week for the next few weeks. The 2 big chances today were like a number over the last few seasons. He panic, when the chance is there and ends up "side footing a back pass" to the keeper. Rickie on the other hand waited until the keeper committed himself. Hopefully if he could work with Che for a period of time he could get in Che's head and not panic when a chance appears.
  13. What the chances that he gets called up by Germany for the World Cup in Dec ? He has been playing really well in the last couple of games and his form has not gone unnoticed by the "London Media" I have been told. ? Are there currently four better German CBs ? (As it stands we are going to lose JWP and Salisu ?? for the WC, it would be nice from a Saints point of view that the rest had a good 5 week rest )
  14. With regard to the joke price for KWP, could it be that the Tribunal price for Thierry Small has been made known to the clubs and everton are really p*ss off that they are only going to get 1/4 of what they wanted for him. (??) It was reported at the time that everton considered our offer of £1.5m was unacceptable. I also heard that they are going to lose 2 U16 players this season to Top6 clubs.
  15. I see chelsea fans have produced 2 Youtubes of his form this season https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ro9qqrfkf30 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C84FZzTYuLM (1) I hope they notice there are NO headers, NO Left Foot shots only RIGHT FOOT shots and dribbles. There have been times in Saints games where a LEFT FOOT shot would have been a better option i.e. Leicester (H) (less than 10mins to go, score 2-2) he is played in by Adams 8 yards out on his Left Foot and he choses to try and spin around on his right. 7:37 mins into highlights https://www.southamptonfc.com/2021/12/02/highlights-southampton-leicester-city-premier-league-2021 (2) All his good play is when the ball is played up to him EARLY, there are no examples of the arsenal system of the 20 passes just to get the ball to the half way line. Going there would be a backward step for him, no wonder all their strikers want out, they want the ball early as well.
  16. If you look at MOTD post bits at 1:17:21, https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0011g58/match-of-the-day-202122-06112021 The camera from the side clearly shows that McCarthy is being FOULED by the No19 as the corner comes in (He has his arm out pushing Alex back over the line, stopping him coming for the ball). So from that corner the Attacking side is committing a foul on the GK and the Defending side is committing a foul at the near post.
  17. IMO most Refs attempt to be fair, however Mike Dean makes too many mistakes in Saints games (always against Saints), I'm going to add JWP decision on Sat to the list Failed to send Alonso off when he attempted to break Shane Long leg (April 2018).https://www.southamptonfc.com/news/2018-04-15/highlights-southampton-chelsea-premier-league-1718 (approx 5 mins in). AFTER the game the FA gave Alonso a 3 match ban, however his 2 assists when he shouldn't have been on the pitch is hard to take. Var decision to send off Ryan B after 12 mins in the 9-0 defeat v Leicester. Sent off Bednarek in Man utd 9-0 defeat when replays show there was no contact with Martial - the VAR ref called him over after he gave the Pen and he compounded the error by sending Bednarak off when there was NO contact. Overturned by the FA. Var decisions in the 1-0 defeat to Villa last season - Clear Handball by Villa player he failed to give the Pen and send the player off. As Above, gave Offside in the 91min against Ings to overrule a good goal, the Var picture with the lines showed the ball had already left Ryan boot, if it had been produced when Ryan B had the shot, Ings would have been onside imo. https://www.southamptonfc.com/2021/01/30/highlights-southampton-aston-villa-premier-league-2020-21 Highlights: Saints 0-1 Villa | Southampton FC An extended look at the key talking points of Saturday night's encounter. www.southamptonfc.com  Sent Off Redmond in 2016 v Spurs https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/10710684/watch-nathan-redmonds-red-card-was-harsh-says-jamie-redknapp WATCH: Nathan Redmond's red card was 'harsh', says Jamie Redknapp | Football News | Sky Sports Jamie Redknapp thinks Southampton's Nathan Redmond was harshly sent off against Tottenham - watch him analyse the incident. 18. I believe JWP wants the "100 Full 90mins" for Saints. He is on something close to 80 at the moment so I don't see him going in this window. (IMO that is why he came home early from the last England games and why Ralph moved him to RB in the last match when he wanted to look Romeu and Diallo together in a central role) He may even be aiming for Bridge's 107 "Full 90mins" record.
  19. Sorry 3 days out it was the Fulham game.
  20. I wouldn't be surprised to hear he has been suffering from Long Covid. IMO he hasn't been the same player since he caught the virus a few months ago. There was that incident about 35 mins into the Leeds game where he overran the ball and ran and flopped over the barrier at the Northam end. He stayed there for a good min or so looking completely shattered. That wouldn't have gone unnoticed by Southgate and it was only 35mins or so into the game.
  21. Shrewsbury games this weekend has just been called off because of 2 players testing positive. https://www.shropshirestar.com/sport/football/shrewsbury-town-fc/2020/12/31/shrewsbury-v-crewe-alexandra-postponed-due-to-second-positive-town-covid-19-case/ rest of squad in isolation.
  22. THANK YOU Saints for showing that again. Great watch after 10 years, the only down side for me was the Skate commentator - stupid comments every couple of mins IMO Jose Fonte was a class above everyone else on the pitch. If you can show any other games how about (1) The 3-2 against liver poo a couple of years ago with Klipperity standing on the touchline scratching his head. (2) The 4-0 v Coventry when we went up. (3) the 1-0 at weeds when Kelvin made save after save. (4) the 3-2 come back against mk dons (Jonny Forte 2 in 3 mins) (5) the 4-0 at the Cheats this season (6) the s/f against Palace in 76 (too much alcohol for me to remember clearly) etc
  23. Mike Dean !!!! (not my favourite Ref) Sent off Danso this season v United (imo correct decision) VAR Ref who sent off Ryan after Leicester had scored Two seasons ago he was Ref for the Chelsea home game when he failed to see Alonso tackle through the back of Long's calf when he had a clear view and Alonso then made 2 goals as they came from 2 down to win 3-2 in the last 15 mins. The season before that he was the Ref who sent off Redmond for a pull 10 yards outside the box AND also gave the Penalty when the Spurs player fell in the box. They went on to win 4-1. He was also the Ref who was seen "punching the air" when Spurs scored
  24. For me it was from the loss of Bill Green in Aug 2017 when things went wrong. He was the Chief Scout at the Club from 2011 and was person who had the say on whether he thought the player would make it or not. In the 6 years he was Chief Scout we made some good purchases (which imo others took the credit for). Since he died the recruitment has been POOR. https://www.southamptonfc.com/news/2017-08-21/southampton-football-club-bill-green
  25. We seemed unprepared in the 1st half for playing on a pitch where the grass was left so long. Shades of wGS leaving it long for that victory against manure a few years ago. It meant that sims, redmond etc could not run with the ball and our tactics of playing with pace on the break were completely nullified. Their tactics of playing it long and feeding off the knockdowns from our defenders were more suited to the surface. I thought that in the NC days were we going to build 6 training pitches that matched the opposition conditions so we were prepared for playing on surfaces like that? Or did Ralph not check out the pitch when they arrived a few hours earlier before selecting the starting 11. It would have taken only a few mins to realise the grass was long and that Sims, Redmond etc were going to have zero impact in the game. And that passing out from the back was always going to be high risk (1st goal).
