  1. As someone who is involved directly in the proposal for the White Rose CCS Project in Yorkshire http://www.whiteroseccs.co.uk I think the shutting of the coalfields was a travesty. They were left to flood meaning that new technology available now that could have made them economically viable cannot be deployed to reopen them. CCS would store 90% of CO2 emissions from the White Rose plant and other future coal power stations in aquifers under the North Sea in liquid form that is heavier than water so would remain at depth. Over hundreds of years the liquid CO2 would revert to a solid carboniferous rock form.
  2. Here is my hypothesis: Pompey know that they are going to lose Jed Wallace this month as he is out of contract in the summer and hasn't signed a new one. In a previous Snooze article Connolly commented that there is interest in Wallace from two or three teams. Seems a stupid thing to say to the media but there you go. So there's a likelihood that Wallace may be signed up by a Champ or L1 side but for how much? I would say £100K tops and more likely £75K. I think that this is the money that Pompey are talking about when they say they have additional money to get new players in this month. Not additional gate money or commercial income as they purport. So, being generous, they get £100K. This would all be earmarked for CVA under the FL deal. But it might allow them to slow down the regular payments they have to put towards the former players - sleight of hand etc. So they may have £100K extra for the rest of the season. Call it 25 weeks. An extra £4K per week to pay new freebies they might sign on six month deals. So if they got in three new players, about £1.3K per week each. I don't think they will sign anything decent for those wages in January as the only players available will be those other clubs want to dump off contracts anyway because they are no good or have been superseded by a better player at whatever club. But the shield mentality that they adopt means that new players have to come from higher divisions. Bring on more useless crap from Swindon or Brighton I say!
  3. TBF I think they just repeat lines spoon fed to them by Comical Allen and his sidekick Jordan.
  4. Portsmouth till i die 2:31 PM on 02/01/2014 Heres a very long shot Le Fondre wants to leave Reading. Try and get him on loan for the rest of season. Proven goal scorer northterrace 3:26 PM on 02/01/2014 I am guessing that Connelly must be one of (if not the) biggest earners at the club. Show him the door and get Kevin Phillips from CP. So very, very funny!
  5. Last gasp winner for Southend! Yay.
  6. The interesting thing about fresh starts as trumpeted by McInnes for the second half of the season is they generally turn out to be the same old in disguise. You'd think that Pompey fans might have rumbled this by now having had years of similar pronouncements based on nothing tangible.
  7. Danny East has been turned from a villain to a hero. For the moment. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/barker-praise-for-new-favourite-east-1-5777907
  8. A few of them now seem to think they should sign Nicky Shorey who has been released by Bristol City! They're so funny.
  9. And in the unlikely event of a promotion before the CVA is satisfied they would probably get relegated from L1 again immediately.
  10. Happy Xmas Skates. Enjoy it like it might be your last!
  11. Barker's got the serious hump - Radio Solent interview https://audioboo.fm/boos/1812563-pompey-boss-richie-barker-speaks-to-mrandrewmoon-after-2-0-defeat-by-bristol-rovers
  12. It's an interesting article from Neil Allen in many ways. He gets a few comments from Steve Allen that go on about the fans being brilliant etc, no doubt leading questions from comical Neil, but does report the unhappiness of Steve Allen also which is the first we have heard of that from anyone involved. Steve Allen obviously was prepared to stick by Whittingham but no more than that after the latest deckchair rearrangements and propaganda communiques.
  13. Working in energy and utilities and living in Manchester, my view is that London requires far more local power generation than it has now. It is one example where the north provides the needs of the south (albeit in an inefficient manner because of voltage losses in long distance electricity lines at least). The trio of large power stations located close together in Yorkshire at Drax, Eggborough and Ferrybridge provide 8GW of power output at capacity and supply about 15% of all the UK's electricity on average at the moment. With the exception of Didcot and the existing Hinckley Point, most of the other really large power stations are in the midlands and north, so arguably London needs at least two new big power stations nearby in addition to the two 1GW plants that have been consented in Essex and Medway but are not being built currently for reasons caused by the government's haphazard approach to energy policy.
  14. A few years ago I was in London and needed to get back to Manchester but there were big rail problems because of electrical supply issues. The receptionist at the company I was visiting was asked to find me the best available route back to Manchester or, failing that, a train to somewhere up north with a connection to Manchester. She came back, pleased as punch, to tell me that she had found me a train to Watford!
  15. As a Manchester resident I believe HS2 is essential and we neeed to get on with it. We're messing about with nimby objectors who are scaring others in communities and then intend to build about 400 miles of new track by 2033. The Chinese have built nearly 20,000km of dedicated high speed track in the last five years and it is operational! On the east-west point in the north, the Pennines is an issue but there are disused railway tunnels that connect Lancashire with Yorkshire such as the Woodhead tunnel. These could be re-opened to increase rail capacity as the M62 motorway is at bursting point in morning and evening rush hours.
  16. So the financial goal posts are shifted again in a desperate attempt to steer Pompey away from non-league football. Catlin's comments about there being budget to spare as Whittingham didn't use it all up are interesting as they contrast entirely with his comments after Whittingham was sacked when he stated that the board had increased Whittingham's budget several times at the manager's request and it hadn't paid off! New faces, same old Pompey on so many levels.
  17. People dawdling on pavements. Especially bad at xmas in shopping centres.
  18. Can't see any reason why GW would be forced to give up the benefits of a rolling one year contract given his contract was terminated. Par for the course in such an event. No doubt there is some gagging clause in place, which would also be the norm. I wonder what his basic annual salary was though. £100,000 perhaps? The PST doesn't tell us stuff like that...
  19. I'm quite happy for the Skates to delude themselves for as long as they want! This is a post from one of my favourite idiots on the News comments board today: http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/barker-lays-it-on-line-to-players-1-5751354#comments-area PORTSMOUTH SAVED 20 4 13 PUP 12:22 PM on 16/12/2013 I agree with richie barker you have to be special to play in front of 15000+ every team wants to beat pompey and its their cup final at fratton their fans seem to turn up in larger numbers also. It will be interrsting who mr barker keeps
  20. Looks an excellent app. Will give it a go.
  21. Followed no doubt by the same old merry-go-round of events for another year or so until the cycle starts once more. Although I can't see Coppell getting too involved this time. He's not interested in any form of increased stress levels. Being unpaid one assumes he's just a sounding board for Barker to bounce ideas off.
  22. Plus he would have still been paid more than the fine during the six match ban period.
  23. Fantastic video of sodje admitting match fixing. Dragging Pompey through a bit more muck.
