  1. What a load of pre-election tosh! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29652317 It's a shame Mr Miliband and his advisers can't come up with something genuinely good for the country rather than shabby schemes to win shabby votes from the politically and economically illiterate.
  2. Agreed Pap. I am involved with some of the Liverpool to Manchester canal corridor work.
  3. It seems to me that the uniform and personal equipment is always wrong or inadequate, no matter the conflict! I think the Romans were the only ones who got that right but I guess they had plenty of time to experiment...
  4. Port of Liverpool hires PR agency to promote new "superport" http://www.prolificnorth.co.uk/2014/10/influential-launches-liverpools-superport-campaign/
  5. I particularly like the way that the News has been talking up the "Pompey Academy". http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/the-academy-five-not-here-to-make-up-pompey-numbers-1-6351964 Say it enough times and the clueless blue few start spouting it too!

    Ebola

I agree and hope you are right. But newspaper sales are irrelevant when the relevant chief US medical officer has stated that a breach has occurred. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-29590832

    Ebola

But a nurse aware to the risks and presumably in full bio kit has caught it in the US from the one known infected patient. That doesn't require additional scaremongering and I am fully aware of the danger of scaremongering in itself.

    Ebola

Has to be a huge concern now with an infection reported in the US to a nurse who treated the guy who flew in and died. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-29590832 I'm not convinced that this can be contained. I hope that the pharmaceutical companies are working around the clock now with full government help for a vaccination that is speeded through the system and put into mass manufacture.

    Skiing

My sister's self-board ski chalet in the French Alps near Samoens is available for hire by the week (950 Euros plus 200 Euros returnable breakages deposit). Sleeps up to 8 people (2 double beds and 2 twin beds). It's about an hour from Geneva Airport and there are regular ski buses or you can a hire a car. Samoens has not been invaded by the Brits yet! Let me know by PM if there is any interest for 5% off 950 Euros for those booking by the end of October subject to availability. http://www.chaletbellevuefrance.com
  10. 1-1FT. Not happy over on the News.
  11. Tesco, which has two smaller stores in Margate, said its change of plan was the result of shoppers switching from large stores towards neighbourhood outlets and the internet. “We are reducing the number of large stores we open each year as a result of changing customer shopping habits. After careful consideration we have therefore decided not to pursue a new large store in Margate,” a spokesman said. The latest retreat comes after Tesco mothballed two new supermarkets in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, and Immingham, Lincolnshire, as it reassesses its strategy under new chief executive Dave Lewis. No doubt Robinson is not at all worried! I expect confirmation from Neil Allen soon. In fairness, Robinson can sell or lease the consented site to any expanding supermarket who wants big new stores of course... Errmmm...
  12. Pompey international duo out of action http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-international-duo-out-of-action-1-6341552 I love it when Neil Allen does tinpot stories like this, they are so desperate! Whatmough has withdrawn from the England U-19 squad having originally been a standby and Drennan is on loan from Aston Villa and in the Republic of Ireland U-21s!
  13. Fairly nasty gloating piece from Neil Allen that ignores the plight of all those who lost out. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/the-day-football-applauded-pompey-1-6338684
  14. I imagine the BBC would love to get rid of Clarkson but in doing so they would lose the revenue that Top Gear brings in. Equally I imagine that Clarkson is very aware that the BBC is the best TV company to support a programme like Top Gear at low TV production risk compared to the commercial sector.
  15. What a bizarre response!
  16. I expect Les Reed is on it!
  17. The better he does, the more money we will recoup though.
  18. The message is clear to our other aspiring players... grow yourself a single sideburn!
  19. Fantastic. Technically we have two strikers in the Italy squad. Maybe that also happened at Chelsea with Zola and Vialli but otherwise surely a first for an English team? Edit: Seemingly not at Chelsea either as Vialli won his last Italy cap in 1992 and signed for Chelsea in 1996.
  20. I'd hazard a guess that the number plate was known or discovered to be extant on an old porsche, of all things, setting up an innocent looking challenge of driving three old mid-range super cars through South America including Argentina. I'd also guess that some unwitting leak took place to galvanise a load of Argentinians into action.
  21. Hilarious. When will OTT posters learn?
  22. Sherwood is a bit of non-diplomatic problem. Which is fine if you know what you're on about and can talk in context. He'll get a job as manager at Rotherham or somewhere.
  23. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29460187 The Hull mentalist still wants to call them Tigers. The Cardiff nutter is still in place. The Leeds bloke is still avoiding cracks in the pavement. The Fulham feller is playing lucky dip. I think Katherina might be ok though.
  24. Nevertheless, a groan from Poch after the game which is good for Saints really. The Spurs club environment will be dwelling on this result for a day at least. So less positive prep time for them for Sunday. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29449205 Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino on Chiriches's error: "In football you can always make a mistake. It was an unlucky action, a difficult action in this moment. "He made one mistake after another mistake, but we need to accept it because this is football. "I am very disappointed, I am angry, I am frustrated, but it is 1-1 in the end. "We conceded in the last minute, which is very disappointing, and maybe frustrating. It is hard to accept this."
