Was / Is NP a 'Bootboy' and can we get real about what we need to do?
TopGun replied to Sheff Saint's topic in The Saints
I think much of what you say is probably correct about NP. And I think NP is a potentially good manager of any side as he seems to have good basic ethics. I was sad to see him go. But we are where we are. -

Not sure I understand the point. Coppell was born English though and also has caps as a player. -

Reading had cash but didn't go mad buying players. In fact many of their players got sold. Coppell is a clever and considered man. Not the usual run of the mill and maybe (maybe) JP is similar. -

Kick a ball up the middle and hope that SFC gets lucky amongst the others all doing the same and robbing us of supporter cash for a play off place? Reading made good CCC football and a 100 plus points a couple of years back under Coppell. That shoud be the aspiration. -
This is a great idea. I would also support having hungry lions and polar bears on pitch and Sky would agree. Unfortunately Dyer wouldn't be eaten as he has already legged it.

Don't believe the hype about possible alternatives though Long Shot. Unless you know there's a gazillionaire backing half **** plans.

Agreed. Alps is wrong as it is too early to tell. -
Usual ugly, unattractive and devisive nonsense from SB. Apparently SB works in PR. I also work in PR and wouldn't touch the feller with a very long barge pole. His gratuitous abuse of posters has got to a stage where he should be banned IMO. I have no issues with the SFC views SB holds at all btw, it's the expression.

Ultimately it appears NP wanted more cash than Lowe was prepared to pay. That's understandable as what does a relatively unproven manager offer on his CV? Lots of guesswork involved. JP is the cheaper risk. Plus might be more productive by invention. We'll see. -
I think I'll stick my pound behind Gordon Brown currently.

I think it is strange that drunk drivers who kill people are not committed for at least manslaughter with a jail sentence that is higher end. After all, the specific crime may not be deliberately premedidated but every drunk driver knows that he is breaking the law when he gets in the car anyway. One for the law lords to reconsider IMO.

Ken Armstong was clearly an albino Masai. Nobody realised it.
-
I believe the nomadic Masai breed cattle so that they can drink both the blood and the milk as they wander about. Might be an interesting half time multicultural show at SMS if we sign a Masai tribe giant at centre half.

I don't think a parole board will let McCormick out on 3.5 years though DSM. Too much crap for them even if he is a model prisoner.
-
Agreed. His sentence seemed extremely light and he did a half. He's a high profile early example of sentencing the footballing famous though. Not that celebs should necessarily get a harder time than other miscreants of course. But it sends out messages one way or the other simply because it gets reported over more channels.

If I was 21 and going out on the razz in town I would drink teh booze. Being 40 if I was going out with 21 year olds on the razz I would drink teh booze to pretend I was 21 still. But being 40 I can go out on the town without teh booze and have a laugh too. I win Scottie. You have to wait a few years to understand

Have a good one Mr Grant :-)

Mikey, he won't do a half sentence for killing two kids. The uproar would be too great. The parents of the kids have already lodged their disappointment at the sentence handed down but the judge can only work within his remit. He may do open prison at the tail end of his sentence but it will be at least five years served overall and probably more.

Yep, movement and passing is more important. Triangles etc. A quick player that can fit in to that would be great though. That's Walcott rather than Dyer though. Maybe Holmes can do ok when he is fit again on performances so far.

It's a bit catch-22 really. McG was always a bit behind Blackstock and Best age wise but was a better goal scorer at youth level. How do you know when a player develops to a higher potential? I'm not too bothered about Best but Blackstock seems to have hit his straps now. QPR could have bought in an expensive replacement for him if they thought he was no good. McG may get better but he needs to grow up IMO and build himself a wiser head on the pitch so that he adds more to the team. Then he might be good. But it's a big if still rather than a when!

My concern with any "unknown" foreign player scouted from Swaziland or Eastern Europe etc is the challenge to turn potential talent into rock solid team performances, particularly at centre back. Many rough diamonds that may be out there may also have difficulty dealing with new UK surroundings and more cash than they have ever had. It can be a recipe for disaster, particularly with less intelligent or more impressionable recruits. It's not just about raw talent. IMO players signed from such places need to be assisted by the club to integrate sensibly into society and taught loyalty to SFC (and maybe citizenship) rather than ending up all too easily doing the "big one" with cars, women etc at the detriment to their careers and Saints' fortunes...

Sounds good. I always get a bit put off by assumptions that people know what demi-johns, campden pills and various other bits of kit are! I don't!

Two year contract for a 37 year old... hope Rod is paying!
