I wonder how much it would cost to get Swansea's Scott Sinclair - he has a year left on his contract there. -

Relegation 2005: Did Pompey throw the West Brom game?
Elmore replied to Armchair's topic in The Saints
Even if they did throw it and it did play a part in our relegation (it didn't) - relegation was (eventually) a great thing for Saints. Got rid of a lot of deadwood and now back in the prem with proper ambitious owners. Skates meanwhile... -
Isn't that what we did with Tadanari Lee as well?

worst. thread. ever.

I would be surprised if we went for Clyne. After we beat Palace at Selhurst, Adkins said he was especially pleased with Rickie's first goal as they had worked on it in training - they had specifically targeted Clyne at right-back as he is so small. -
Well if you were born in 1980 and grew up through Thatcher/Regan era and had those experiences, you prove his point don't you?

Anyone remember a kids game show from I think late 1980's where in one of the games the contestants had to play what looked like a spectrum or C64 version of Paperboy?

Miller doesn't deserve to be on any of these lists imo. He did very well for us when he played and as pointed out by bananaman above we were really thankful for him at the time.

Stoke is basically Saints circa 2005 - they have 5 ex Saints. Others I know of - Swansea have Monk and Dyer, Fulham has Baird and QPR have Fitz Hall

As we are finally back I am getting into the swing of all things premiership by reading through the Premiership all time records. Couple of interesting tables: All time prem league table: http://www.myfootballfacts.com/All-TimePremierLeagueTable1992-93to2010-11.html Saints are still 14th despite our seven year absence. Quite depressing seeing pompey amassed enough points to get themselves to 24th (they’ll forever be a blemish on the table imo). All time hat-trick table. http://www.myfootballfacts.com/Premier_League_Hat-Tricks.html Saints only scored 5 hat-tricks in the Prem (4 by Le Tiss). Pompey scored 6 hat-tricks in seven years! Despite our seven year absence Saints are also still top of the table for club on receiving end of hat-tricks scored against (boo!). Hopefully we will put the hat-trick table right next year and move above pompey.

True - I don't believe that Rupert Lowe ever tried to find external investment in all the years he was here, until it was way, way too late.

A good read - thanks! That Fitz Hall transfer was annoying. If I remember rightly I think Palace / Dowie unsettled him by talking about him to the press and he subsequently requested a transfer. He also ended up scoring against us in the 6-pointer with Palace at Selhurst. If he hadn't scored, we might have won that match 1-2 and stayed up!

How many youth players will break into the side next season?
Elmore replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Saints
Yeah. I agree - you would expect ability & fitness of individuals is the key factor. As well as tactics and other variables, but there does seem to be a general trend that younger squads do better. -

Does squad age have an impact on how well a team does in the prem? I was just looking at Fulham’s squad and thought that they have a pretty old squad. So I looked up the stats and sound that their average age is 28yrs, which is one of the older squads in the Prem. Of the promoted teams QPR have the oldest squad in the premiership but Norwich and Swansea both have young squads and are doing OK. In fact all of the younger squads seem to be doing OK (with exception of Wolves). Looking back at other seasons and the most successful sides generally had the youngest squads. http://www.statbunker.com/football/btb/index.php?PL=competition&CompID=373&statType=seasonsquad -

With all the evidence to the contrary, the really do believe they are the worlds best fans don't they? Almost feel a bit sorry for them. They really need to get some perspective.

We'll be OK - we are a good side, we haven't been playing badly and we are overdue a win at St Mary's. The boys will do the business and the fans can enjoy the day!
