A lot of these prem clubs (especially arse) seem to leak details of their transfer business through the newspapers - obviously to unsettle their targets. Not a nice way of doing business.
-
It was also good seeing Ken Monkou on the tv analysis.
-
Thought we did really well after a slow start. Lallana is looking some player - he is getting better and better and his passing today was great. Lambert was fairly quiet, but I don't think he scored in pre-season last year either. Also see that Norwich play Ajax on Tuesday - it will be interesting to see how well they do.

Mills is an odd one. Another Saints academy graduate - he did OK for us on the occasions he played and would have been excellent for us in league one that season. He also did well at Scunny, Doncaster and Reading (and played well against us at the Madjeski), but he has now been shipped out to Burnley. Is he not as good as I thought or is it his attitude or what?

Please, please, please can Redknapp invest all his money in portsmouth.
-
I haven't followed the ins and outs that closely, but my gut feeling is that they will not be liquidated and they will start and finish their season in league one. If they were going to go pop it would have happened by now as they are quite clearly insolvent and have been for many many months.

wasn't moss from our youth team?

They have us there I’m afraid. Terrible that a club our size and with our history and the players we have had in the past has not won more trophies. Especially when small clubs like portsmouth have won recent trophies. It is utterly shameful, but then again I suppose we always competed fairly unlike portsmouth.

Having said that - how could I have forgotten Dave Beasant?!
-
Yeah thanks. Not really the point. But thanks.

Having now signed Gazzaniga our Goalkeeping department looks a bit different from last few seasons. I was thinking about our goalkeepers and trying to remember who played and when – this is the best I can do from memory (in a kind of chronological order) – loads of omissions I’m sure: Who else played? Davis Bialkowski Miller Smith Keller Niemi Jones Taylor Grobbelaar

So just how good is he then? Everyone is raving about him. Admit I know next to nothing about him and only saw him play once. Must say I didn't really notice him when we played Palace - then again none of their players really stood out apart from Zaha.
-
Strange that they can insist on a sell on clause when he is out of contract?
-
This one for me too. That was the match when it really sunk in for me.

This was the second ever post on this thread on 08 July 2009 - Alpine are you clairvoyant or something?

Outrageous vid. The technique for the goal that starts at 2:10 – who was that against (Arsenal?) The goal against Norwich at 2:45 – wtf?!!? My favourite (someone once told me when this was scored, but I have forgotton - duh) is at 5:45 – just love the determination - the way that the ball hits him in the face, the keeper saves his first shot, but he still gets it in the net. He looks like a predominantly left-footed player in this clip.

Must say this is slightly sobering! http://news.ladbrokes.com/en-gb/football/premier-league/reading-are-better-equipped-for-the-premier-league-than-southampton_109730.html "Nigel Adkins’ men have also climbed two divisions in two campaigns and though Norwich survived such an ascent last term, it was a huge achievement. The last team to try it, Manchester City in 2000/01, went straight back down." I'd like to think our current squad could survive a season in the Prem. Although Reading got the points off us and went on that amazing run, they massively rode their luck. In the Brighton (at Amex) and Saints (at SMS) matches, they would have been dead and buried if we had been clinical in taking our chances. Reading allow other teams to overrun them at times and last season they managed to suck up that pressure and counter attack well, but not sure how successful that style will be against Premiership teams.

Hope he scores against the skates.

Just noticed that our first two fixtures Man City away and Wigan home are exactly the same as Swansea's last season.

It's so hard to say how we will do until all signings (and other team's) are finalised. I'd like to think our current team as it stands including Rodriguez, could just about stay in the prem, if we got off to a good start. I'm sure our team could achieve a few good home results, but if we start badly and have our usual winter iffy-patch we will struggle. However if we can strengthen (for me - right mid, right back, central defence and centre mid), we could have a good season. I'd like to see us try and steal Scott Sinclair from Swansea - his contract is running out (plus I think his brother is already on our books)! I can't wait to see how Lambert measures up in the Prem. Also Spiderman, Lallana and Cork.

With a run of games as first choice 'keeper in a good side I think he will do very well. He is slightly injury prone though imo.

Kelvin Davis (first season) Rory Delap Kenwyne Jones Brett Ormerod

Only going on all the conjecture on here but if it is true that he is unsure about moving here because it is 250 miles away, you really do have to question whether he is the right player for us. He does look like he has some potential, but I'm not really sure about this one and wouldn't be gutted if we looked elsewhere.

If I recall Liverpool fans were one of the few bunches of fans who took the time to sign-up and post on this forum's predecessor their commiserations when we got relegated from the prem seven years ago. So for that alone I think they are alight.
