It will certainly boost their vocal support, the media will be focused on them for the next few days and they'll probably rise to that. Saturday just got a bit tougher, time for our support to step up.
-
Unfortunately, some players just see it as a bit of an inconvenience to be selected to play for your country.

It was reported in this article.

Oh dear 0-2

Only bugger is, it wouldn't quite look the same now

1,700 is a decent effort for a long awkward trip up north considering the recent weather. But although Burnley give all clubs the full allocation they make them sell the seats at the back first other than the minimum ‘pitchside’ quota so unless you sell the full 2,500 it looks a bit naff. Don’t blame them, unlike us, they lessen the effect of the away support all they can.

One of the main features on Football Focus lunchtime, another insight to the man who needs to work a small miracle.

That just sounds like half a dozen bumpkins singing to each other. Did they have less there that day than they did at Wigan?
-
Boufal and Carrillo will be back at the club in the summer (as will Clasie - still a year left on his contract) whether we like it or not but I'm sure RH will be keen to have a good look at them and see how they respond to his methods, they'll be like new players for him. Clean slate until he decides otherwise.

That's quite a good (and as far as I know) unique chant (so will probably never catch on) but if I was Nathan Redman I'd be inclined to stick up a couple of fingers and boo the same way those numpty fans did to him at Craven Cottage and numerous other times. Same with so many of our own players. Long will probably go on a little run now all the "hate" and "sh*te" will evaporate for a bit. Nice chant though.

He also had a stint in the US before signing for SFC and also went out on loan to Forest while here. And then went onto play for several other clubs. Probably fits the 'journeyman' title throughout his career. Today's line-up Starting XI: McCarthy, Valery, Vestergaard, Stephens, Bednarek, Targett, Romeu ©, Ward-Prowse, Armstrong, Redmond, Long. Subs: Gunn, Cédric, Ramsay, Slattery, Sims, Elyounoussi, Gallagher.
-
Hardly a 'journeyman', had only ever played for Chelsea before signing for us. Charlie George maybe. 0-0 probably best we can hope for today, OK as long as we back that up with at least 4 points from the next 2 at home.

Ridiculous. For a club that bends over backwards for away fans at St Mary's (sanctioning Virgin to discount visitors tickets/using the away 'fans' fund to upgrade their concourse!), they certainly couldn't give a **** for our own. So what if they've had their fingers burnt a little on a couple of previous allocations, it's peanuts to them. They were forking out 10,000 quid on those f'kin annoying clackers every home game that most didn't want. We only had to sell 90% of the remaining 900 tickets so not to have to pay for any unsold, did they really think they wouldn't have sold another 800 tickets in 3 weeks?

We shouldn't be surprised, these ***** did this to us for Sunderland away in the FA Cup a few years back. And the league game too. Add the Northern rail strikes that day, this is a right carve up for Saints fans (if we get through, etc.). And to rub it in they give 2 London clubs the evening kick-off. Tough gig that having to get all the way across the capital.
-
Having 'stood' at St Mary's many times I can't see it being an issue just to replace the present seats with rail seating, I would imagine it's basically as it is now but with a rail/bar across the back of the seat. And that's why I can't see it having any bearing on capacity, surely a rail seat will take up just about the exact same space? Tottenham have already installed 7,000 rail seats in their new stadium (5,000 in the home end, 2,000 in the away)

Top man, bargain buy, served us well. Time to move on, return to Rangers an ideal outcome and hopefully a League winners medal around his neck come the summer.
-
Well, he's really done no better at Leicester despite keeping hold of most of their better players with an almost identical scenario with rumours of losing the dressing room, fan unrest, boring football. I reckon he's probably a real nice guy but who's personality isn't best suited for a level full of prima donnas. Tough game all the same, take a draw.
-
Nah, this was definitely while they were still on sale.
-
Decent but we had an allocation of 3,100 and on Friday there were only around 50 tickets left according to the OS. It regularly shows as sold-out or near sell-outs on the OS for both home and away games but there always seem to be a number of empty seats. Strange.
-
No. Just going on hearsay tbh, guess what I've heard is wrong. Hopefully he's setting the world alight to our ultimate advantage.
-
If we can ship out 3/4. I would imagine Long and Austin will go this summer but we've got some big earners returning with Carillo and Boufal, neither have impressed on loan so we're probably stuck with them. A lot may depend on how the youngsters and Gallagher fair if they get a run.

Southampton FC fan base, an embarrassment to the club.
alehouseboys replied to SKD's topic in The Saints
As someone who's in touching distance of his sixties (and should know better) and been going to the football for all but half a dozen or so of them years, I can confirm that we've always had 'em. I've always felt our fanbase isn't really representative of this city, the Southampton people I've grown up around have always seemed a bit more rough-and-ready, I guess a lot of the older generations worked in the docks or related industries when it was thriving, many of our fans do come across as a bit too polite/dopey for a 'football' crowd. Wherever I've stood/sat and chatted to fans around us over the years, there's always going to be a few from Dorset or Wiltshire who usually even struggle with the name of the team they've chosen to follow - I mean, who the fck are "Saampt'n"? I've always wanted our fans to be more Galatasary than Old Corinthians but after a near 6 decades I accept that will never be the case. -
Derby v Saints (FA Cup - 3rd Round) Build Up and match thread
alehouseboys replied to SuperSAINT's topic in The Saints
There's over 3,000 travelling up for this and I'd normally say they deserve a strong side on show but I think most will be happy to see youngsters/fringe players thrown in for this one. The serious stuff starts after Saturday. Ralph knows what he's doing. -
FFS - reduced prices and they take a reduced allocation.
-
I can't but our crowd ain't winning us any close call. Still a comfortable day out for visitors.
