  1. A Charlton fan, a Spurs fan and a Cornish rugby fan. One bunch of comedians for another, sounds about right Although it’ll remain Gao for the foreseeable future, of course.
  2. Looks like I am then. I have to admit I do get a bit punchy when I feel someone's being disrespectful to my home town - I even checked out the presenter as thought he must have been a skate - still, I'm over it now.
  3. Martin Semmens https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52517259
  4. I’m thinking tongues-are-in-cheeks here........
  5. Yeah, the ‘Alehouse Brawlers’ got me hooked!
  6. Would have to be this era for me. Getting to Wembley back then, particularly 76, was still a magical experience. To win the FA Cup as a second division side against the ‘mighty’ Man Utd was off the scale. Promotion 2 years later, talk of a new stadium (again), felt we were finally moving on. Some of the away days 77-78 were massive and memorable occasions. 79 at Wembley was (result aside) another step and big day out. Soft spot for the first 3 years of the 70s too as this when I first really got into it and going regularly, again magical to a young kid.

  8. I've just watched the hour-long episode in a series called 'Great British Ships' on Channel 5, this week it was about the Titanic. It told the story from concept, to construction in Belfast, to the fateful crossing and when it went down - but Southampton never got referred to once, the presenter only mentioned about it 'setting sail to New York'. Out of the 900 crew on board over 700 came from this city and well over 500 perished. Am I being a bit over sensitive about this because it did grip my ****, it felt like a bit of an insult to the hundreds who died down in the engine rooms and working in other areas of the ship.
  9. General social distancing is currently recommended at 2m, coughing, sneezing, spitting and heavy breathing apparently trebles that required distance. A physically competitive and close contact environment doesn't sound conducive to good practice. With the money involved of course the clubs want it to get going again soon, and some fans are just so desperate to watch a match it's clouding logic, it's still early stages of this virus and everything done so far could quickly be set back.
  10. Yep, 'Jim Branning' serenading us all on the pitch pre-match earlier this decade. This reminded me of a European tie away in Ireland at Carrick Rangers around '77 when one of their players got injured and needed to be carried off. On trot the stretcher-bearers who load the player and then proceed to pick up the stretcher facing in opposite directions. Down he goes and they try again only to both turn around and once again set off in different directions (no stereotype jokes that day...)
  11. I'll have to take your word for that, but I'll bet they'll be a denser concentration of people in the stadium areas/dressing rooms and particularly on the pitch. Are we getting non-contact football?
  12. Yeah, doesn't mean they're right (although they'll be far more efficient at safety measures than us), time will tell no doubt. And the first big club to lose players through showing any signs will be up in arms if results start going against them.
  13. As you say, the most logical thing to do. They've just had a report on the BBC highlighting how people exercising outdoors are likely more at risk from deep breathing in droplets in the air. There's far more stricter rules in some countries regarding exercise like only in the home, restricted outside to certain hours of the day, two people together at most and in others, strictly exercising alone. Even without supporters there would be hundreds of people involved in a relatively confined area on a matchday. Players, staff, security, officials, press, etc. That's a lot of people to continually test just to see who's carrying the virus and are the results immediate enough to stop infection inside the stadium and then take home? We're at least 18 months away from a vaccine being discovered, tested - and tested again - then mass produced and administered to just about everyone on this planet.
  14. ....and the Kingsland and half the Itchen...it's gonna hit SFC attendances hard - shame they didn't do more to encourage younger fans in the past like other clubs.
  15. Atmosphere was better in the lower leagues but I don't think we ever had a league crowd under 16,000 in League One, averaged in the 20ks with some attendances over 30k.
  16. That's good to see, the vast earnings most have already banked makes it a bit more bearable for them but hope that sets a precedence. Even if players agreed to a substantial pay cut for the period that would be something. They may not be playing matches but they'll be expected to train and keep match fit-ish ready to go as soon as competition resumes.
  17. How this **** continues to walk freely around the streets of England is remarkable, particularly considering the locals of where he's currently calling 'home'.
  18. 50 miles south would be preferable.
  19. TV on in the background, think I just heard them say where Italy is right now is where we will be in 3 weeks if habits don't change in this country. A couple of dogs have now been confirmed as fallen victim to coronavirus, if pets can carry it that causes other problems. People smoothing cats dogs and then returning home may possibly bring it into the home.
  20. Haven't seen any reports of positive tests at SFC yet, the skates will no doubt be claiming that's 4-0 to them and trumps our 4-0 in their own back yard.
  21. You'll all enjoy this little bit of light reading then... https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/03/the-story-of-a-coronavirus-infection.html (saw it linked on the UI)
  22. This is an interesting read... https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/mar/15/epidemiologist-britain-herd-immunity-coronavirus-covid-19
  23. Towns up and down the country will be breathing a sigh of relief that the Kingsland Tartan (blanket) Army will be safely locked away for the foreseeable future.
  24. The birth rate might in 9 months or so.
  25. Over 70s to be told to stay at home and isolate for 4 months https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/government-to-quarantine-elderly-and-tell-over-70s-stay-at-home
